I don’t want to wear out my welcome around here.
I need to take a shower and wash my hair. Of course, Bridget and Spike will cry and howl if I leave them in the Casita by themselves . . . like they do every time I go to the showers. In order to give the neighbors a break, I put the crew in the PTV and drive the short distance to the shower building. At least their squalling, if it disturbs people, will disturb different people. I’m doing the best I can here. After the shower, I drive us over to Walmart. Might as well spread the ruckus around town!
I zoom right over to the sporting goods area.
I find just what I want! It’s a headlamp a little bit bigger than an Oreo cookie that clips on the bill of a cap and costs $9.88. It puts forth 14 lumens of white light in three LED bulbs and it can be adjusted to the best angle. I’ll use my new, poop-illuminator tonight! What fun!
I also need some groceries. I pick up the items for the chicken recipe in yesterday’s post. I find a 3 lb. bag of frozen, chopped green chilies from Hatch, NM, for $5.25. I figure I can do a lot of creative cooking with this in the freezer. Just chip off a chunk and add it to soups and stews, maybe spaghetti sauce, and eggs! Yeah.
Since I’m out on the roads, I drive over to the Truth or Consequences post office.
I want my new, replacement Kindle, and I want it now. Rats, it hasn’t come in yet. I have some other stops to make, but Bridget and Spike are reaching their limit and I’m getting hungry. That’s what’s so great about not having a job. What I don’t get done today, I can do tomorrow.
Tonight I’m watching a movie based on a Tony Hillerman novel.
Chuck and Geri loaned me the DVD, “Coyote Waits.” I haven’t watched a movie in a long time. Don’t feel sorry for me. I used to order movies from Netflix all the time, until I watched about 800 films spanning several languages and couldn’t find any more that didn’t disgust the socks off me or melt my brain.

The crew interrupts my blog-writing. They need to go out! Great! Now where’s my cap with the headlamp . . . . We step out the door onto the blue patio mat. Wow! This thing is fantastic! It lights up a circular area with a diameter of about twenty feet. I notice the crew likes it, too. I direct them where I want them to go with a turn of my head. I love this thing! How did I go so long without it. We stroll up to the end of the campground and back, something we couldn’t do in the dark b.h. (b.h. …. before headlamp).

Like your new poop illuminator…gonna get one tomorrow and put out in the Mothership. Got ingrediants for the chicken, chile thing….Wally World doesn’t sell the little Hatch Green Chiles, got a Texas brand…..Geri has it marinating in the frig for baking manana……

Your Texas chilies should do fine. I found packages of chilies from Albuquerque and Hatch in Walmart’s frozen food case. There weren’t many and I bought one of them.

We ended up letting it marinate overnight in the fridge and ate it last night…. YUMMY! So easy to make and bake. We used our small toaster over similar to what we use in the MotherShip! How did yours work cooked in the crockpot ???

I’ve noticed a lot more headlamps being used in the national parks while camping the last few years. LED technology, with it’s improvements in illuminating power and battery efficiency, has bought portable lighting a long way in the last decade. First headlamp I used had a standard flashlight bulb, and 2 “C” cell batteries – and I loved that! Now a flashlight smaller than a spice jar throws a far better beam than my old trusty 6 volt lantern – the sort where the lamp is screwed down to the battery terminals…LOL

These lamps are such an improvement. I was so surprised to see the swath of light my little clip-on light throws. In the old days you looked like a coal miner or a welder wearing a headlamp.

With the days getting shorter, you will definitely be safer taking the crew out at night with the light – and poop spotting will be easier also. Surprises at night are something you DON’T want.
Especially the kind of surprises one might encounter in the desert!
Jim has one of those light thingies on his hat and it works so great, especially trying to get home after the campfires out in the desert.
