Oh, the excitement on Trail Ridge

Monday, June 20

At our Trail Ridge camp we have two choices for walks on the road:  go uphill and return downhill or go downhill and return uphill.  No walking on level.

For this evening’s walk we go up the ridge, Bridget in her car and Reggie on his tether.

P1120235-001

As we near the top, Reggie stops suddenly and lifts a front paw.

“Oh, Reg!  Wait a minute, honey.  I’ll fix it for you.”

I leave Bridget in her car and rush over to Reg.  I squat to examine his paw.

“It’s just some pine pitch or something.”

As I pull the sticky sap out from between his toes, a movement to my left causes me to turn my head.

There goes Bridget rolling past us.

Oh, dear God, I forgot to put on the brake!

P1120228I leap to my feet.

Bridget in her car rolls down the hill at an ever-increasing rate of speed.

I chase after her, slipping and sliding on the loose stones in the road.  The tether tangles around my ankles.

Poor Bridget looks back at me, eyes wide with terror!

P1120234

Faster and faster she goes!

P1120230

I’m losing her!  I’m not going to catch her!

“BRIDGET!” I scream helplessly as I watch the horror unfold before me.

P1120232

“Hold it, hold it, hold it.  Stop right there.  You’ve gone far enough, RVSue.”

“Huh?  Wha?”

“You know what I mean.  It’s not right you scaring your readers like that.  They love Bridget.  It’s time you stopped this nonsense and told the truth.  You’ve always been honest on your blog, RVSue.  Don’t start telling tales now.”

“Gee, you always have to ruin my fun.”

“Having fun at the expense of others is wrong and you know it, RVSue.  Now fess up.”

“Okay, OKAY!”

Folks?  Bridget did not roll down the hill in her car.

She’s fine.  I kinda’ exaggerated.  I was trying to add some excitement to my blog.  The part about forgetting to put on the brake is true though.  But her car didn’t roll down the hill.  It rolled about five feet.

“And the photos? Tell it all.  What about the photos?”

Sheesh . . . . dang conscience . . .

“I staged the photos, all right?  It didn’t really happen.”

Tuesday, June 21

Are you ready for some REAL excitement?

P1120217

A cattle drive goes by our camp!  Right past our front yard!

P1120214

A cattle drive with real cattle and real cowboys!

P1120218

 Real cowgirls, too!

P1120221Reggie and Bridget bark at the door.

I keep them back from the screen door, kneeling, taking photos through the small opening.

P1120219Later, two cowboys on horseback emerge from the forest.

I guess they’re out looking for strays.  Reggie barks madly, straining on his hind legs at the end of this tether.  The cowboys laugh.

“May I take a picture of this?” I ask.

“Sure!”  They bring their horses to a halt.

P1120222Then they continue on their way . . . .

P1120223

Wednesday, June 22 — The crew and I go into town for supplies.

It’s a pleasant drive across big, open country.

P1120272

We now have a full pantry and a full refrigerator, a full tank of propane, and a full tank of gas in the Perfect Tow Vehicle.  Water and trash bins are available for us at Bridge Campground next to the ridge.  It feels good to be well-stocked (akin to being well-stacked, I suppose.)

Cool wind accompanies the afternoon storms that pass over Trail Ridge without stopping.

The crew and I will stay a few more days at this camp.

How can we leave when it’s so exciting here!

Hi Sue. Maybe at the top this time?

  2. Renee Galligher - Idaho says:

Wait! I just had to come back again and comment on Bridgey’s runaway story. How creative! You are definitely a superb story teller. What stopped me from thinking it was real is the photo of Bridgey. I thought, “how in the heck did Sue snap a photo of Bridgey in the midst of the panic?!”

  3. Annie in Oregon says:

Second this time. Now will read your post. Have a great day and pets to the crew.

    • rvsueandcrew says:

Thanks, Annie. I hope your day is great, too. We’re leaving in a few minuteS to see the reservoir to the north of us.

      CONGRATULATIONS, ANNIE’S IN SECOND PLACE!

  4. milliehubbard says:

Wow, Renee you are fast!! Congrats!!

  5. Linda Rose, Muffin, Murphy, Molly & Midgy in Carmichael, CA says:

    Top 5 is still good.

  6. Gail from Buckeye AZ says:

Good morning, what a nice surprise another early morning post!

  7. Renee Galligher - Idaho says:

Ok, I’m back again after reading the rest of the story as Paul Harvey would say . . . it was great! Made me smile – and that picture of Reggie straining at the end of his lead to see the cowboys on horseback! Years back on one of our boondocking trips, we awoke to find our little area surrounded by sheep. Good thing I looked out first, because there in front was a huge Pyreenees dog lying down in the dirt. They are guard dogs and see other dogs as a threat to their herd, so we stayed put till he moved. It was quite the excitement! I love all the greenery too! Thanks, Sue for another wonderful post and the opportunity for me to be first!

  8. milliehubbard says:

OK, Sue, you had me panicked for poor Bridget, but then I thought, even RVSue wouldn’t stop to take a picture while Bridget rolls away…nice try 😉

Glad to see all are well and that you’re enjoying your site. Sure would love to have some nice cool shade…it’ll be 100 today here in NC.

  9. Dawn in Asheville, NC says:

Ha, you didn’t have me fooled – I knew you wouldn’t be taking pictures – LOL! But love the creative license 🙂 Beautiful spot you are camped in…

  10. Dawn in NC says:

    Could I possibly be first?

  11. Linda Rose, Muffin, Murphy, Molly & Midgy in Carmichael, CA says:

You’re so funny. I knew you wouldn’t really be snapping pictures if Bridget was in any danger! Good cliff hanger tho.

  12. Chaunte says:

    first?

  13. Deena in Peoria says:

I thought Geez, Sue sure is a quick photographer then I smack my head and starting laughing. Wonderful storyteller, you are. I do love the picture of Bridget looking back at you in the slightly fuzzy haze and Reggie defending his territory (or is he asking to play with the horses)…adorable both of them.
Enjoy the ups and downs of your pathways at this camp.

    Deena and Miss Mollie

  14. Cheryl O. ~ Puget Sound says:

Like your blog twist…very exciting and entertaining. Now I know what happens on those kind of roads in Colorado, at least. I’ve never seen a cattle drive…cool.

Are you able to use your regular wifi or is your antenna up in that area? I’ll be might buying a Kindle Fire soon (through you), since I lost my other one. I hope to find it, but feel it’s a goner. I’m reviewing the right kind to choose from, also.

    • DesertGinger says:

You might want to consider other tablets as well. I assume you know (but just in case), you can download the kindle app to any tablet or computer and it works the same. I have know kindle on my iPad.

  15. Pamelab says:

Ok, my heart was racing, but you took pictures, so that was out of character for this trauma. Look, more cowboys and cowgirl and cows. How fun to have all this pass right by your front door!
You are redeemed – for the scare.
I just found out I will be picking up my Casita on August 2nd. I am excited and a bit overwhelmed. I even had some checklists color coded and laminated. But, will I remember what to do after I pull out of the parking lot???!!!
    Yikes!
Happy trails to you three. Thank you for your blog. Sue, you are an inspiration to me.
    Thank you.
    Pamelab in Houston…for now.

    • Glinda says:

      Pam
You will get it. I did two years ago. It was all new to me, too.
You are going to love the Casita.
Glinda from the Huntsville, Tx. area
      HAPPY CAMPING! !

      • Pamelab in Houston says:

Thank you, Glinda, for the encouragement. I used to live in Spring and now in Missouri City. Things are really happening quickly now. Selling furniture, etc., getting a small storage unit, taking some things to a consignment shop, ordering all the supplies, WHEW! Two years and you probably are pretty comfortable with your trailer. I look forward to that.

  16. Dawn from Camano Island says:

Whew! This was an exciting post–I was with poor Bridget the entire time! This spot is beautiful–it looks like some other camps you’ve had but darned if I can remember where they were. So glad all is well & frog is stocked. I think you could say it’s stacked…with delicious food! Have a wonderful day!

  17. Wow you had me on the edge of my seat Sue , nice photos of the cowpokes, and cows,,, Piper n rusty

  18. Hilarious! I laughed out loud at Bridget’s run-away stroller. I could just picture you slipping and sliding on the downhill road…wonderful post and the pictures are so beautiful. Cows! you know we love cows, maybe Reggie will get accustom to them someday, they will always be around. Have a great day Sue…what fun it was.

P.S. That is my Viair 400P-RV Automatic Portable Compressor Kit.. whoopee. My RV tires will always be inflated properly. They had better be for that price. LOL.

  19. retiredcajunlady says:

Your story would make a precious children’s book…The Day Bridget Rolled Away. In fact, the adventures of your pups living on the road with you would make a wonderful series of children’s books. LOL Ok, I know I am trying to give you more work than you already have with your blog. I will stop.
The stories were funny, though. I can’t imagine waking up to a cattle drive in my neighborhood, but that is part of the joy you live in your roving neighborhood! So happy you guys are safe, stocked up, and staying put in your spot. It is lovely. I can imagine staying there for a while just to soak all sites in. As always, thanks so much for sharing your pictures and stories with us. Belly rubs and hugs for the pups…prayers for all.

    • Renee Galligher - Idaho says:

I love it! “The Day Bridget Rolled Away”.

      • Renee Galligher - Idaho says:

But, don’t stop there. Remember the children’s book, “Carl”?

        • retiredcajunlady says:

True, an entire series of adventure books!! Starring both pups! Bridget and Reggie books!! Somehow, I don’t think Sue will be as excited as we are…LOL. But truly, her photos and giving voice to her pups…books would be precious. Can you tell I taught Reading for many years? Many stories were wonderful, but many we read were insipid at best. Even after being retired, my heart and brain still look for what would appeal to kidlettes!

          • Kitt, NW WA says:

I was thinking exactly the same thing! The kids would love it. You would hook them with the suspense of Bridget’s next adventure in her stroller.
Great post, love the neighborhood cowboys/girls going by. This is another beautiful campsite, I’m glad you can stay a while to enjoy all it has to offer.

            Kitt

  20. Pam and Maya, Still in NY says:

Ha, ha, great post! You had me until I saw the photo of Bridget then I knew it couldn’t be true! A cattle drive through the campground, well that is a lot of excitement for all of us Easterners!

  21. Kat says:

Loved, loved the exciting tale of Bridget’s run away buggy and you chasing her. I did believe it happened but I also knew in the end she would be totally safe. Because you obviously weren’t snapping pictures while it happened so they had to have been staged afterwards. So glad it didn’t really happen though-we (Cookie Dog and I) need to get him a buggy in the next couple of years and now I should remember to set that brake! Reggie is adorable trying to get a great view of the cowboys. Bet he loved those cattle going by so near. Hope someday I get to see real cowboys herding cattle. (ok so I grew up with my own horse and he loved to herd dad’s beefers (cattle as you would call them). Of course he was herding them on his own in the fenced in pasture. Dad got really mad at him cause he was having fun, but was running the fat off the beefers. It is what got him sold when I went to college-broke my heart. But knew my dad had to do it, because without me there to exercise my horse he was herding cattle way too much to burn off his energy. Thanks for the childhood memories. Great Pictures!

  22. Alice (So. Fla) says:

Cute story but like the other readers the picture gave you away. But it was good. Glad you have a nice landing place for a few days. So what do you do about ticks? I would be concerned with the high grass.

    • Oh silly me, of course not. I don’t know why all those other comments didn’t show up when I read the blog. Sue, Sue, Sue. I knew something was up when I got to the photo of Bridget’s wild-eyed look. Somehow I don’t think you’d stop to take photos while chasing down her chariot!! How cool to see the cattle drive!! I am back to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for the nice cool summer temps….hoping to have a whole summer of free campsites!

  23. Chris B in Southern California says:

    Bridget deserves an Oscar!

Great story, Sue! When I saw Bridget’s face I started cracking up! Very well trained, right? As always, I enjoy your blog.

Wish that I was in Colorado right now. It’s so green and pretty! I need to set some dates for our trip to Seattle to visit our daughter. Lots of green up there!

  24. Biz Crate - No longer 40m south of Chicago says:

Actually, I’m in Albuquerque, enjoying my second week on the road. My house is under contract will close soon. My daughter is taking care of the final details.
My first week on the road was quite a learning experience. I refer to it now as my shake out week. So many things that I should have done, shouldn’t have done, etc. …but I survived.
Of course, the biggest mistake was deciding to come West via the Southwest considering the record temps we are having. I promised family that I would visit in the beginning of my trip and that meant heading to Austin, then Albuquerque and on through Las Vegas before getting to my sister’s in California. Thankfully, that will mark a turn North as I head up to Portland for the last of the family visits.
I’d ask for advice for my trip from Albuquerque to Santa Barbara but I can just hear you all saying “Don’t do it!”. Seriously though, any advice?

    • rvsueandcrew says:

      Blogorinos:

Any advice or suggestions for Biz Crate as he (or is it she?) travels from Albuquerque to Santa Barbara?

      • Geri says:

In case you haven’t seen the news, all around Santa Barbara is on fire! Be alert! Better call those relatives and friends before you head out that way!

  25. Susan in Dallas says:

But it COULD have happened! Bridget had the perfect look for the story. And if all of that was not entertaining enough, then there were cattle. Great day for sure!

  26. I always figured you had a little bit of devil in you. And I’ve seen it peak through before but never to this extent. You really had me going, and then the laughter started. Connie thought I had gone crazy – with the “oh no!!!” And then the laughter. Glad you were able to see the Cowboys and Cowgirls up close.

  27. Dave Stewart (in missouri for now) says:

OK! I will admit I was Gullible, I fell for it Hook Line and sinker.

I was watching the mental picture, of you running and slipping, on the gravel, trying to catch Bridge”s car. Then a Big sigh of relief. And a laugh when I realized.

Yoy were forgiven when the pictures of the cattle drive showed up.
with the photo of Reggie straining at the tether.
A breath of relief, and levity.

  28. Linda in TX says:

Hilarious. You definitely had me going, but I started having my doubts when I got to the part about you managing to photograph her while running in a panic to catch her! Her expressions (those eyes!) are just natural for a drama photo shoot, aren’t they?!

  29. AZ Jim says:

I was gonna say, “if Bridget was in a major race downhill in her runaway car, why in heck is Sue taking pictures?” I should have known you were being silly. I guess the “real” excitement of a couple days ago shall always remain a mystery. That’s quite a site to have a herd driven literally right by your camp. Bless little Reggie’s huge heart, hopelessly out sized and out numbered he never the less gave the invaders a piece of his mind. He’s all macho in a transistor sized body. Fun post today Miss Sue.

  30. PShorten says:

Sue, you totally had me. What a great laugh when you confessed! Thank you, Pat

  31. Pamela Avery says:

What a great story! Love your posts. Very jealous – it looks so beautiful there and what luck to have a real cattle drive go by with cowboys and cowgirls. Sigh…..maybe someday!

  32. Rocky Mtn Bob says:

    Sue,
Years ago I used to help my uncle with cows, once did a 3 day cattle drive in the fall, cold, dusty and boring, and walked half the time to stay warm. This time of year the cowboys were probably moving cows to a different range/pasture where snow has finally cleared. We always had to go into a certain area when first going to high country (mid May), to avoid some “loco” weed, that would kill cows or very sick. After the weed dries out (melting snow dissipates, dry ground) then generally your safe, the root of the plant is poisonous, and won’t be pulled up if eaten. Also ranchers are good Stewarts of the land and will not “graze” the pasture down, keep moving to new pastures. They will also allow for certain amount of grazing of game (deer/elk), depending on size of game herds.

    Bob

  33. Applegirl NY says:

OK, so call me crazy, but I wasn’t worried, I was laughing harder than your blog has ever made me laugh. Maybe it’s because I knew it would have a happy ending, or else your title would have been more sad. What a ride!
Your blog made my day. Bridget is the star of her own “Perils of Pauline.”

  34. Suzette (TN) says:

Great “coverage” of the excitement, Sue! And the cows! Y’all have certainly enjoyed some great camps lately. Thanks for taking us along for the ride!

  35. Tom Moore says:

    Sue you are a pip.
I always go right to your blog first.
Have fun and keep up this great blog. It makes my day.
    Tom

  36. Ladybug in Mid-Tenn says:

I was wondering how you had the presence of mind to snap pics during the incident!

  37. Cynthia in San Clemente says:

You did NOT fool me missy! Much as you love your camera and taking great photos, I knew you wouldn’t stop to aim and shoot it when Bridget was careening down a slope! Nice try but you’ll have to do better than that!!

  38. Dawn in MI says:

Well I for one (and apparently not the only one) was worried about poor Bridget! Glad it was all for fun! Little Reggie-man is so cute too…gonna take care of those cows mom! Watch me! I’ll take care of them!!

  39. Steve says:

Like many, you had me going until the picture of Bridget–I knew there’s no way you’d be taking pictures if you were racing after that sweetie. I enjoyed it though!

I guess I’m over-reacting, given that you’re boondocking, but I’d be a little annoyed at ranchers working cattle that close to my camp. Great pictures though!

  40. Barbara (Nashville) says:

What a great story. First caught by breath of Bridget rolling away, but you would not have been taking pictures. Also, Bridget probably would have jumped out when you called her name in panic. None the less, we had a good laugh. Reggie is so funny with the cows, I think Angel might do the same thing in that situation. She was set to take in two Golden Retrievers last night, even though they were more or less ignoring her.

Forgot to tell you. One of my neighbors down the street, who always stops her car in the road to pet Angel and love on her, was on her way home on Tuesday and stopped as usual. This time her husband was with her and when he opened the door, she jumped right in, crawled under his legs, climbed over the console to get over to Donna. It was the funniest thing. She had her leash all tangled around his legs but she was so excited. We were all laughing hysterically. Told Donna, that I thought she would be happy to just go home with her. She just did not want to get out of her car.

  41. Lauri says:

THAT was a great one!!! Can’t wait till next time!! I am still in the dreaming stages of my adventure…. What am I waiting for? I have no idea!! One of these days we’ll meet up!

  42. Marie in Texas says:

This is why I read your blog. Loving your stories. Keep on rolling rolling.

    Marie in Texas

  43. Pauline in Mississippi says:

Like everyone else, I was not fooled. My sister would NOT have been taking pictures is such an emergency!!! LOL…but it made for a good story. I love the cowboys and cowgirl also. It must have been interesting to have them right out your door. Reggie looks like such a hero fending off those big horses. Glad you will be there for a few days, it looks like a great camp.
    Love to all of you.

  44. Marysia says:

How is Piedra Road? Good shape? Is it possible to drive to the Bridge campground in Class C RV? Will appreciate your help.

  45. Virginia620 says:

Each post just keeps getting better and better. I just LOVE this one. ;~0)

  46. Sandi Stewart says:

OMG Sue. I was laughing so hard I almost peed my pants.

  47. Jenny Waters says:

You are funny, Sue. 🙂 I was enjoying your story (especially the blurry “runaway” stroller pic) but didn’t figure you would actually stop to take a picture of poor Bridget in the midst of all that. You are a good story teller; thanks for the laugh.

  48. Carol S says:

Sweet Beans in a Basket! I TOTALLY fell for the “runaway” story. Nice job!

Don’t do it again. Please. You are exciting enough just as you are.

  49. weather says:

Until I read “Bridget did not roll down the hill in her car” I believed all of it. It didn’t even cross my mind about you taking photos at such a time until I read the comments mentioning that. It’s a good thing your conscience won’t let you scare or lie to us, I’d fall for it too easily, Ha! Seriously, I love that sweet “thanks, I love you, too” look Bridget is giving you from her car. I don’t know when you took that that, but it must have been a special moment for you both.

The cattle drive story and cowboy pics were wonderful! Gosh, I’d love to have that pass by my door. I like the way you brought the tension down a notch with that type of excitement,… then even more with a calming photo of the country, description of you three having all you need and cool winds…Especially nice finishing touch to show her preciousness and your home, sigh- all’s well.

  50. Mertinkentucky says:

Howdy sue and crew, asia mae and i are still lerking in the corners. U had me worried for a second, and then i thought, wait a dagone minute..why is she snapping pics while poor bridgey is mowing down the dirt road..ha…glad that was all a joke, i was concerned u were going to have broken ankles too. Alls the same here, missing my momma so,so much…but i suppose i always will…dads a little better all things considered. Me, im exhausted. But, i think when this all is over,i am going to go lay on the beach with asia for about a month, and decide my future plans.. i either am buying an rv and traveling, or i am buying a house in daphne, alabama… or both!! 11 years now of caregiving, and i have absolutely no regrets and would do it all over again in a heartbeat. ..but,its almost time to start living my life, and i am so so so ready!! Happy trails to u all…dont forget the brakes 🙂 mert and asia mae

  51. Barbara from Camano Island says:

That was hilarious!!! Thanks for a good laugh. And sweet Bridget casting her backwards glance at her dear, sweet (?), impish Mom!

    • Barbara from Camano Island says:

By the way, I don’t read you email first as a previous person said they did. I save it for last. My treat to myself. Desert.

  52. rvsueandcrew says:

    Hi, Everybody!

I had some doubt about the wisdom of posting “The Day Bridget Rolled Down the Hill.” From your reactions I see that I needn’t have worried. You reacted how I hoped you would — with giggles and laughter once the “excitement” was over. I’m tickled reading your comments. 🙂

I wanted to include an even more dramatic pic of the stroller way at the bottom of the hill and about to jump a ditch. I couldn’t stage it. Reggie wouldn’t leave Bridget when it was time for us to hurry up the hill for me to take the shot.

I like to inject a little fun on my blog. Never, ever will I post “Not Much Happened Today.” There’s always something happening! 🙂

    A few notes to Blogorinos…

To those of you who were scared for Bridget, I love your devotion to Her Royal Highness!

To those of you who wet your pants, sorry!

Congratulations to Biz Crate on the road two weeks! Hey, Biz, you get the family visits done and then you’re free to roam. The crew and I started out in Texas August heat. It all works out. Safe and wonderful camps and travels!

Shirlene — Thanks for ordering the air compressor kit from Amazon through my blog!

Marysia — Yes, you can drive a Class C to Bridge Campground. Piedra Road starts out paved, then turns to gravel and dirt. The road at present has a lot of washboard and is very dusty. Take it slow. There are some small hills and turns, nothing scary. The best time to come out this way is during the week, of course, in order to snag the best campsite.

Cheryl O — Yes, I’m using the Wilson antenna (the one on a pole sticking up from the BLT’s rear bumper). I wouldn’t be able to post without it.

Alice in South Florida — No ticks so far!

Rusty — Take all the antibiotic pills. We want that leg healed up completely!

Mert in Kentucky and Asia Mae, too — I’m very happy to see you here again! It’s hard getting past the loss of a beloved mother. I don’t know if one ever does. I wish you strength in caring for your father. Keep your spirits up. Feel free to stop in any time! Hugs and love to you, dear one.

Pamelab — Don’t worry. Do everything very slowly, methodically, shoo away any onlookers. As long as you chock the wheels before unhitching and hitching, you’ll do fine. Even if you forget to do that (like I did once), it’s not the end of the world. 🙂

To those of you who share stories and anecdotes, thank you! You make this place more interesting. Great little stories here today . . . .

Thanks for participating and for complimenting my writing. It’s always my goal for my blog to entertain, as well as to inform/educate. It looks like that goal has been reached. You chuckled and you learned to never ever forget the parking brake on a hill. 🙂

    Carry on… Love you!

    Sue

    • Marysia says:

Thank you, Sue for your answer. Many times in the past we travelled this road all the way passed all the campgrounds to the dead end to reach Cimarrona trailhead. We used to start our long backpacking trips in the Weminuche Wilderness there. The road used to be bad even for our Subaru so we have been too afraid to make the trip in the RV.

      Thanks again, m

      • rvsueandcrew says:

You’re welcome. Your rig will get dusty and you need to make sure everything is secured well because it will bounce on these roads. The drive is worth it though, as your experience tells you.

  53. Glenda in OZ! says:

Oh phew…………with my stomach rising to my mouth as I read………..I thought “Hang on, how did Sue get the photos while chasing the runaway car down the hill!” Well staged Sue, you sure had me going for a while! Beautiful place you are at I might add.

  54. LOL! You had me going there for a sec. Then I thought, “Hmmm. Bridge can’t be rolling very fast, there’s photos.” Glad it wasn’t for reals!!!! Thanks for that bit of humor to brighten a busy afternoon.

  55. Cinandjules (NY) says:

Y’all had me going until I saw the photo of fright in Bridgees eyes! Naw she wouldn’t during an emergency pull out the camera to take a photo!

I could just imagine Bridgee in her car….facing forward…headed downhill!

That was a good story….neat that you had front row seats to the roundup! Nice to see some women partaking in the adventure!

    • rvsueandcrew says:

BTW, I figured out what caused the mysterious swath of bent grass. Not a bear. Probably one of the steers. 🙂

      • Cinandjules (NY) says:

Id rather come across a steer than a bear! You can always talk to it here bossy bossy…nice bossy boss! As oppose…battle stations battle stations…tooter alert!

  56. Rhodium in RI says:

Today is the NBA draft and the Brexit vote, but nothing compares to Bridget rocketing down a forest road with Sue in pursuit.

  57. Thanks Sue for my kind of post with my kind of people, cows, and horses. Beautiful! No wonder you and the crew will stay longer? Loving your blog and artful photography.

Be safe and aware. I’m looking out my front window and seeing the smoke rising over Music Mountains from an uncontrolled Forrest fire North of Peach Springs on the Hualapai Indian Reservation. So sad. Blessings.

  58. I was actually quite impressed with the running, sliding, and photo-taking all going on at the same time! Great drama in the wilds of Colorado :-))) How fun to have the cattle drive right by your door. I’m sure Reggie was incensed that they would have such nerve as to do so. Super pic of his “being big” to those giant horses!!

  59. Geri says:

You had me screaming at you in my head to put down the camera and catch Bridget! Then came the moment of enlightenment when I realized there was no way on earth you would be taking photos of Bridget and her imminent demise! You got me so good I was reading it out loud to Chuck! hahahahaha! Great cowpoke photos, what a way to greet the day! Take care, maybe you should stay put until after the 4th, oh wait… you already showed everybody where you are… well stay safe and I hope you have a quiet 4th for Reggie’s sake!

  60. Lisa and her pack in NH says:

Well I did wonder at your skills until I saw that photo of Bridget in her royal perambulator, however the special effects on the photos were nice. I am jealous that you had a cattle drive by your front door! How cool, and what good looking cows, nice and fat.
I am here on an extended stay at my friends courtesy of a half axle needing replacement on my truck, among other parts. The price tag stung a bit until I called it rent, tee hee. I am working on projects for my friend and myself. Mine include an improved storage system, meaning one that will keep stuff in place when I tow, painting the floor and building a set of folding stairs for Tommie. Lifting his 75+ lb up onto the high bed has gotten old for both of us pretty quickly. Happy Trails all!!

  61. Barb from Hoquiam! says:

YOU STINKER! But I knew as soon as I saw that one photo… naw… she wouldn’t take the time to click a photo! 😛

    LOVE the camp and critters.
The hubs ordered his new to him phone today (via RVSUE/Amazon). He gets his first cuz his is not charging… mine will be soon. Hope it went through, I taught him all I know (click this button first, Jim) 🙂

    Hugs from Hoquiam,
    Barb
    PS who nearly piddled!

  62. Marlene says:

Bridget the actress. She did a great job of looking scared! Hollywood here she comes! What a gorgeous camp. I’ve never seen a cattle drive or real cowboys here on the east coast. A beautiful site. Thanks for sharing.

  63. KelleyInSoCal says:

Thanks crew for making me laugh!

  64. gayle - SO CAL Beach Boomer says:

Bu … bu … but … what about that look of terror in Bridget’s eyes?!

  65. Jo in OR says:

    Great story, great pictures!

  66. Kellee says:

Love this post! Although I was doubting you would be taking photos while running after Bridget!

  67. weather says:

Apart from wondering how readers would react I imagine you had fun just making up a story for once. Being all serious can get old after a while, at least for me. The tee shirt I’m wearing says “I can’t adult today, tomorrow doesn’t look good either”. I may or may not get much done, whatever goes on I intend to enjoy it though. I’m wishing the same for you, Good morning 🙂

    • weather says:

Update , I did get something done. In keeping with the down sizing needed for when I’ll live in a tiny wheeled home I put a single small and precious to me painting in it. One can do a web search for Peace by William Strutt to see pictures of it. A reviewer in 1906 said of that work of art “it brings joy and peace to all …” . I find that to be an especially worthy pursuit , and how commenters often describe your posts though with their own wording.

      • rvsueandcrew says:

I plan to look up an image of that painting, weather. It’s fun hearing how you are putting the things you love into your little home on wheels. Thank you for the lovely, meaningful compliment.

I’m almost ready to put up a post. Lots of photos!

  68. Virginia620 (Mobile AL) says:

Now that’s funny. Love the pics. Now to go back & read comments. 🙂

  69. Chuck Hajek says:

L M A O !!!!!! Oh that should be LMBO….this is a family blog after all. All the pics were GREAT! You know my favorites! Ya’ll stay safe!

  70. Your series of action shots during the Great Dog Car Getaway were so well-staged, even though I was telling myself that they had to be–I was trying to figure out how on earth you made them look so real!

Reggie took care of those horses. Fierce little warrior!

  71. Sandy says:

Great post, Sue! Loved every minute of it.

BTW, I have now started on full-time in my Arctic Fox 22g and Ford F-15 a little over a month ago. I have you mostly to thank for it. I started reading your blog a couple of years ago and kept dreaming.

The learning curve has been huge, though. That is why I haven’t thanked you before now. As of now, I am on the East coast which is quite expensive. I am heading to VT in a few weeks, then to Iowa to visit relatives. I hope to go West from there, but not sure for how long. I still have to make somewhat of a living and there is something for me along those lines in the Savannah area. I’m hoping it can become full virtual, though.

Anyway, I have you to blame for being happy and living life off of auto-pilot. 🙂

  72. Sandy says:

oops typo it is a Ford F-150

  73. Brenda in Texas says:

Oh Sue, you had me going there for a minute or two…. you stinker !!! lol
Looks like Hubby and I may have to visit this place in CO…right now we have plans for Sunset Point At Lake LBJ in Hill Country Texas….. Gotta get the feel of things again before we venture very far away from home….. But can’t wait to get on the road again…..
Take care, have fun and keep on sharing it with us… Love y’all

  74. Glad you’re back on line and hope everything continues to go well. Have enjoyed your blog for about four years.

    • rvsueandcrew says:

      Hi, Predeta,

Welcome! Thank you for reading my blog all these years and for your supportive message to me. I’m happy to see you here!

  75. Denise - Richmond VA says:

    Hi, Sue!

Thank you for the sweet note a couple posts back – it is nice to be missed! Thank you for thinking of me and Gracie pup. My hand is on the mend….just need a little more time and patience. Thank you for taking the time to deal with the frustrating host problem last week. What a pain! We had a severe storm last Thurs with damaging straight line winds up to 60 mph. The metro Richmond area was slammed. I lost power 5 minutes into the storm; it was restored 2 days later. Lost contents of the fridge and freezer. An inconvenience, yes, but those items can be replaced. Gracie, myself, and our home did not withstand any damage – that is what is important. Lots of limbs and debris in the yard, but all is good. Thank you for sharing your journey. Thank you for the eye candy – gotta LOVE those cowboys!! 🙂

Have a great evening, Sue! Sending you, sweet Miss Bridget, and that cute little scoundrel Reggie hugs from me and my precious Gracie pup! xxxooo 🙂

PS – Forgive me if this has already been addressed…I am still catching up on posts and comments. The “Leave a Reply” format has changed slightly. The Commment section is first, followed by the Name, Email, and Website fields. The Comments box used to be below the Name, Email, and Website fields. No biggie…the fields just got flipped. 🙂

    • Denise - Richmond VA says:

I meant to mention….I upgraded my IPad Mini (1st version) to the latest version (4). It has the retina screen. Text and pictures are so much clearer and sharp. Reading your blog and enjoying your pictures was great in the past….now it is an even better experience! I did not think that was possible!!! Thank you again for sharing! 🙂

    • weather says:

Gosh, Denise, I’m so happy to see your note to Sue. You’d mentioned you expected not to be on here for 2 weeks after the surgery. After that passed I’ve looked every day hoping we’d hear from you. I’m glad your hand is on the mend and the storm didn’t damage the really important things. Sue hasn’t checked in since last evening, I just wanted to add my welcome back 🙂 ! to the one she’ll give you when she can .

    • Elizabeth in WA says:

Well, we used to be in Richmond a lot…over the 5 months we were in the area…I am so glad you are ok…but so sorry you lost your food!! But am very glad that you were not injured nor your home!!

    • rvsueandcrew says:

At last, you’re back! Hi, Denise and Gracie pup!

Good heavens, 60 mph straight-line winds… That can do some damage. Glad you and the pup were not hurt. I had no idea you were going through that.

I wish continued healing for your hand. Thanks for catching us up on your life. Again, it’s sooooo good to have you back. I missed you!

  76. Diann in MT says:

    Hey, Sue and crew!

    Long time…

After a few months of recovery from appendix and gall bladder surgeries, I’m back in the saddle! Woop Woop. Didn’t expect so much drama this year! It won’t curtail my camping, however.

I am so happy to see you in Colorado! One of the prettiest states in the union.

I loved your little faux adventure with the Brig. So fun for you and the blogorinos. Need to shake up the status quo sometimes, huh.

Keep well and safe. I love your writing and style, Sue!

    • rvsueandcrew says:

      Hi, Diann,

I almost missed your comment! I’m glad your surgeries are over, you’re mended and ready for more camping!

Thanks for sharing your reaction to Bridget’s “episode” and for the compliment on my writing.

Be well and enjoy the month of June…. Days go by so quickly. 🙂

  77. DesertGinger says:

You totally got me. I was so scared for Bridget but I was sure it turned out ok, because of the tone of the post. Then I saw that you were faking….bad girl! Hahaha.

I had a 6minute walk test this week, to see if I could ditch the oxygen, and I failed. Very bummed about that. I need to work harder on regaining my lung capacity. I don’t want to be on O2 forever. What a hassle.

I’m so unmotivated and MUST work on my taxes. Gotta go and try to get that started. Yuck.

    • rvsueandcrew says:

Taxes in June. There oughtta be a law against that! You are going to be so happy when all this mess is resolved and gone from your life.

Sorry you received bad news on the walk test, Ginger. I guess it’s too hot in AZ to walk much in order to regain lung capacity. I assume you go to a gym?

Ha! Fooled you on the runaway royal carriage story… at least for a little while!

  78. ValGal (westernWA) says:

Oh, you made me laugh! Made my day, which had been otherwise grim. So glad you all are having fun.

  79. Mitzi says:

Beautiful pics! You’re helping me plan my vacation when I leave for Pagosa Springs on the 28th of July!

  80. Elaine says:

    Hi Sue!

I know that I have been MIA since this post but here I am again!

Thank you for the chuckles and smiles with the story about Bridget! I see you changed your top photo too, it’s always good to see “the crew”!

The cattle drive seemed exciting and I’m very happy that you got photos and posted them!
