Mike the roofer arrives at the house this morning with more supplies. Before the holiday he had left a message on my phone that he wasn’t coming out to work on the roof that day due to an attack of headache and dizziness.
My immediate thought was the sun and heat on the roof got the best of him. If you’ve had headaches from sun glare and heat, you know how debilitating they can be.
I step out onto the back patio to greet him. Reggie and Roger shoot out the door and eagerly hop around Mike. They know he’s good for some attention and they love it.
“How are you feeling today, Mike?”
“Much better. I went to the doctor. Remember the last day I was here working? My doctor says the salt tablet I took messed up my blood pressure. I take blood pressure medicine.”
“Well, gee . . . That sort of puts you in a spot. You know, I really wouldn’t mind if you make a habit of quitting by noon each day. It’s not good to be up on that roof later than that.”
Mike agrees.
We talk things over and it’s set that he will resume the roof job on Monday.
“That’ll give you time to get back your equilibrium,” I note.

About those thrift store bargains . . .
In a previous post I mention that my sister Nancy hunts for furnishing at the local thrift store and consignment shop near her house in Florida. Readers express interest in what she’s found lately for our house in Arizona. Never wanting to disappoint my readers, here are a couple photos.
The lamp will go in the living room over the coffee table and cast a warm glow. (The fixture presently hanging there is so atrocious that I cannot bring myself to post a photo of it.)
Nancy writes in an email that the lamp is too heavy for her to hold up and photograph. This is a photo off the internet of a lamp similar to the one she bought. I’ll show the lamp when it’s hanging in our living room.
Nancy also finds and falls in love with a great coffee table with a copper top. Unfortunately it costs too much. She tries negotiating, but the price is firm.
Instead she finds this sturdy beauty.
Actually it isn’t a beauty until she’s refinished it as shown here. (The color isn’t true. Her phone’s camera put a pink cast on the base.)
I like it!
In the email accompanying the photo, Nancy writes that fixing up the table is therapy from another stressful week at her job.
“It (the table) even has a hidden compartment in the drawer. We can keep our drug paraphernalia in there!”
Okay, she’s joking.
See the dish in the shape of a saguaro? A gift from a friend. And that’s a booklet of color chips from a store near me. I mailed it to Nancy so she could pick out the paint for our front door.
The format of pics of previous camps will return.
I like to change things up from time to time. Besides, I have more crew photos. The world needs more dogs-at-play photos, right?
Forever friends!
It’s funny the way the two of them trot around holding the rope toy like this.
Dogs can teach us a lot, if we are receptive.
How to get along with someone?
Simple: Share the rope and hold up your end.
