Oh, the excitement on Trail Ridge

Monday, June 20

At our Trail Ridge camp we have two choices for walks on the road:  go uphill and return downhill or go downhill and return uphill.  No walking on level.

For this evening’s walk we go up the ridge, Bridget in her car and Reggie on his tether.

As we near the top, Reggie stops suddenly and lifts a front paw.

“Oh, Reg!  Wait a minute, honey.  I’ll fix it for you.”

I leave Bridget in her car and rush over to Reg.  I squat to examine his paw.

“It’s just some pine pitch or something.”

As I pull the sticky sap out from between his toes, a movement to my left causes me to turn my head.

There goes Bridget rolling past us.

Oh, dear God, I forgot to put on the brake!

P1120228I leap to my feet.

Bridget in her car rolls down the hill at an ever-increasing rate of speed.

I chase after her, slipping and sliding on the loose stones in the road.  The tether tangles around my ankles.

Poor Bridget looks back at me, eyes wide with terror!

P1120234

Faster and faster she goes!

P1120230

I’m losing her!  I’m not going to catch her!

“BRIDGET!” I scream helplessly as I watch the horror unfold before me.

P1120232

“Hold it, hold it, hold it.  Stop right there.  You’ve gone far enough, RVSue.”

“Huh?  Wha?”

“You know what I mean.  It’s not right you scaring your readers like that.  They love Bridget.  It’s time you stopped this nonsense and told the truth.  You’ve always been honest on your blog, RVSue.  Don’t start telling tales now.”

“Gee, you always have to ruin my fun.”

“Having fun at the expense of others is wrong and you know it, RVSue.  Now fess up.”

“Okay, OKAY!”

Folks?  Bridget did not roll down the hill in her car.

She’s fine.  I kinda’ exaggerated.  I was trying to add some excitement to my blog.  The part about forgetting to put on the brake is true though.  But her car didn’t roll down the hill.  It rolled about five feet.

“And the photos? Tell it all.  What about the photos?”

Sheesh . . . . dang conscience . . .

“I staged the photos, all right?  It didn’t really happen.”

Tuesday, June 21

Are you ready for some REAL excitement?

P1120217

A cattle drive goes by our camp!  Right past our front yard!

P1120214

A cattle drive with real cattle and real cowboys!

P1120218

 Real cowgirls, too!

P1120221Reggie and Bridget bark at the door.

I keep them back from the screen door, kneeling, taking photos through the small opening.

P1120219Later, two cowboys on horseback emerge from the forest.

I guess they’re out looking for strays.  Reggie barks madly, straining on his hind legs at the end of this tether.  The cowboys laugh.

“May I take a picture of this?” I ask.

“Sure!”  They bring their horses to a halt.

P1120222Then they continue on their way . . . .

P1120223

Wednesday, June 22 — The crew and I go into town for supplies.

It’s a pleasant drive across big, open country.

P1120272

We now have a full pantry and a full refrigerator, a full tank of propane, and a full tank of gas in the Perfect Tow Vehicle.  Water and trash bins are available for us at Bridge Campground next to the ridge.  It feels good to be well-stocked (akin to being well-stacked, I suppose.)

Cool wind accompanies the afternoon storms that pass over Trail Ridge without stopping.

The crew and I will stay a few more days at this camp.

How can we leave when it’s so exciting here!
