I feel guilty on the days I don’t post. Whenever I finish a post, I’m certain that I will do better and post again the next day. The next day comes and I’m carried away with whatever is going on in my life and the post doesn’t get written.
This past weekend the fence work resumes.
Boy, did Dennis and Gilbert work! Putting up a fence on this property is a challenge. All along the four courses of fence line, the men have had to deal with slope. Up and down, all around.
Board-by-board construction can follow the slope. Eight foot panels on an incline or decline are tricky, creating “steps” while staying level.
I try to stay out of their way.
However, I can’t resist watching a gate being installed.
The decision to completely enclose the back yard means four gates in all.
Two gates to access the back yard from either side of the house, one gate to access the maintenance lane at the rear property line, and one 16-foot wide, “barn door” double gate which allows access into the back yard by a vehicle.
When the protective coating has been applied to everything, I’ll post more photos.
Anyway . . .
About not posting every day.
I’m selfish! I have so many fun things that I want to do around the house that my mind refuses to settle down to writing. Some of those things might not sound like fun to you — like refinishing furniture or removing trellis or sweeping the porch or taking the string trimmer to mow down weeds in the side yard.
I go to pot . . .
Every visit to the thrift shop I check for plant pots. They’re usually 25 or 50 cents apiece. I have accumulated a nice collection. I want to get all these Mexican petunias (below) potted so they’ll be ready for the ground once the worst of the cold weather is past.
“Worst of the cold weather,” I say.
Ha!
How silly of me to describe our Arizona winter that way. The worst we’ve had is a few early morning lows around 30 degrees and a couple grey days that didn’t get out of the 50s. Last weekend was chilly (See the men in jackets above.), yet yesterday was warm enough for Reggie, Roger, and me to enjoy a picnic on the porch.
Here it is mid-December.
And we’re having highs in the 60s and 70s. I admit I sit in the sun when I could be writing a blog post.
The lounge chair with cushion is another thrift store bargain ($8). From this lounger I make big decisions, like where to plant sunflowers, cosmos, and lantana this spring.
The bird bath bowl used to be on the ground.
However, Roger’s recent tummy upset had me wondering if he caught something from drinking out of the bird bath. This faux concrete table (plastic) is just right for holding the bird bath off the ground. I don’t remember what I paid for it. Less than 8 dollars. I know it wasn’t much.
Christmas is only a week away.
Gee, I need to come up with presents for Reggie and Roger!
They already received a gift I could never top — the gift of each other. Can’t beat that!
