Morning light breaks through the pines at our boondock on the north end of Davis Lake, Oregon . . . .
“Hey, Reggie! Where are you taking us?”
“Slow down! Wait for Bridget and me to catch up!”
“C’mon, honey. We don’t want to leave you behind.”
“It’s pretty here, Reg. You’re quite the explorer today.”
“Oh, look. There’s our campsite!”
“Hold still and let me zoom in on that sandpiper.”
After a while, Bridget leads us back to camp.
She’s a homebody and always enjoys returning more than going.
Gosh, the weather is perfect today . . . sunny and warm. Hard to believe cold and rain is on its way. I think I’ll break camp tomorrow if it isn’t raining really hard . . . .
Look at Bridget. She’s very proud of herself!

Canine Corner: “A boy’s dream” by Bridget and Reggie
“What’s the matter, Reggie? Can’t you sleep?”
“No, I keep thinkin’ about stuff and my body keeps jumpin’ and twitchin.'”
“Oh, I know why you can’t settle down. You’ve been super excited because this is your first boondock.”
“I know, Miss B. I’m finally a boondocker!”
“I’ve been wanting to talk to you about that. You’ve been doing a great job, Reggie. Spike would be proud of you.”
“He would? You really think so?”
“Yes, I’m sure of it. You know, sometimes you remind me of him. Not the way you look, of course, but some of the things you do.”
“Like what, Miss B?”
“Well, like today. RVSue and I are lying around like a pair of slugs. And then you get it in your head that we should go exploring and, first thing you know, we’re climbing down those rocks and having fun . . . .”
(Sigh)
“Spike used to do things like that in his younger days. Always thinking up things to do, go somewhere, have fun. I remember the time he dragged RVSue and me all over those big boulders at Alabama Hills . . . . and one time he went into the mud and then marched up and down the beach showing off . . . . His new boots, he called them . . . . What a character. ”
(Pause)
“Reggie? Reggie, you awake?”
Aww — The little guy fell asleep. I wonder what he’ll dream about.
