What do you do when camped at Elephant Butte for three weeks?
Walk, watch the sunrise, take photos, explore different access points to the lake, stroll the beach, play in the water, go to the store, watch television, tidy up the Casita, talk to campers, go online, eat, sleep . . . repeat in any order!
We’re waiting for the heater to arrive. After it’s installed, the crew and I will move on. In the meantime, we’ll enjoy these lazy October days. This slideshow shows photos taken on our morning walk and on beach trips.[slideshow]

No, I didn’t get a furnace with my trailer. I’m waiting for an Olympian Wave 3 heater to arrive at the Truth or Consequences post office, general delivery.

One day the crew and I were out exploring the west side of the lake, moving northward from the main entrance of the state park. We saw that the lake ends at Hot Springs Landing, which meant all the lake access points north of there led to land (or ponds). Such a shame!
It’s still beautiful . . .
About the heater. Have you considered what you are going to do about the dogs when you want to go somewhere in the winter time? If you had a vented heater, you could just leave them in comfort. With an unvented one, you won’t want to leave them unsupervised with with the heater on. Besides the O2 depletion problem, with the heater down low they might drag something over to contact it.

No, I wouldn’t leave them with the heater on. And I wouldn’t leave them behind on the coldest days. There will be times when I am connected to shore power. I have an electric heater for those times.

With 33,000 views of your log you must know that we’re not getting weary about hearing about the adventures of you and the crew. The pictures are a wonderful complement to your prose. While your words paint an easily imaginable picture your photos provide the punctuation. I read your notes about the crew with envy. I travel alone; I’m in southern Maine again at the moment. I’ve begun to wonder if I should invite a canine friend to join me. To read about Spike and then see him laying in the water; priceless. Weary? No, not ever.

So you might get a dog? How exciting! Having a dog or dogs along when you travel enriches the journey. Sure, they require a lot of attention and accomodations. I find it’s more than worth it. Right now as I type this, Spike is lying next to me, snoring under the quilt! Most of the people in campgrounds have a dog or two. I see all sorts of breeds. Good luck with that decision!

If your heater is installed you should try to go down to the LOW (Loners On Wheels Rally in Deming, NM. It will be starting on Monday 10/24 and going on all week. They have a great time there and lots of opportunity to meet lots of single RV’ers. I won’t be able to make it to this one as I am headed up to Fernley, NV to workamp but I went to the Spring Rally and had a great time.
