Christmas anticipation in Blythe, CA!

Sunday, December 24

Greetings from Frosty the Snowman’s distant cousin in Blythe, California!

The crew and I are snug inside the Best Little Trailer.

This is the third morning in a row of overnight lows dropping into the high 30s.  The heater keeps us warm as long as I turn it on for a few hours before we go to bed.  Then the next morning it doesn’t take long to make our home cozy.

The photos in this post are a mishmash.

When Reggie, Roger and I go over to visit Del and his canine crew, something we have to do every day according to Canine Decree, the dogs run out to greet us.  Usually Skeeter meets up with us first and he and the boys run to Del’s place.  They run so fast they seem airborne.

I’m left way behind.

I’m nowhere near this scene (below) when I took the photo.

Left to right:  Roger, Skeeter, BeeBee, Buddy and Reggie . . . .

Yesterday warmed up nicely.

By two o’clock it had warmed up enough that Del and I could sit outside in camp chairs, talking and watching the dogs have their daily dose of fun.  When the dogs wander off too far, we call them back by name.

This is great training for Roger and Reggie.

It’s also fun for me to try to catch the action!

Sheep crazy!

If we’re anywhere near sheep, I have to photograph them.

We pass this field on our way into town.  One thing you can say about sheep, they do stand still for a photo!

Do you see the Great Pyrenees in the next pic?

And here we have a sheep fashionista!  (Oh, dear. . . Photo bomb at the butt!)

In the next photo, the berm of dirt behind the sheep and palm conceals the canal that runs along the field.

The sheep are moved across the field every few days, section by section.  The fertilized field will be cultivated later.

Del told me an interesting tidbit of information.

He said you can put an electric fence around sheep or pigs and once they touch that fence, they will not cross that place again.  In other words, put up an electric fence long enough for the pigs or sheep to touch it and then the fence is no longer needed.

Not so with horses and cattle.  Take the fence down and away they go!

Christmas presents!

Those sheep photos were taken on our way into town to pick up our packages.  Online tracking had informed me that some of the packages would not arrive as soon as originally stated.  I’ll get the rest of the stuff I ordered on December 26th.

Happily I loaded up the PTV with three boxes.

Inside the boxes I found . . .

Blackstone Portable Table Top Camp Griddle
Blackstone 5 Piece Griddle Tool Kit w/Recipe Booklet
Blackstone Basting Cover – Cheese Melting Dome and Steaming Cover

Yay!

The 12-foot hose for connecting the BLT’s propane tank to the griddle won’t arrive until after Christmas.  That’s okay because I bought a one-pound canister of propane at Ace Hardware.  I’ll use that to season the griddle, a process which I’ve read can use up to a pound of ‘pane if done thoroughly.

I hope to do the seasoning today.

Then I can try the griddle for the first time on Christmas Day!   I promise to show photos of that big event.

I need to come up with another idea for a Christmas card to you.  I had planned for Reggie and Roger to pose in their new, red harnesses but that package hasn’t arrived.

They’re gonna’ look so cute in red!

Before closing here’s another photo I want to share:

I step into our doorway, look out at our front yard, and find Roger soaking up some rays. My boys live well (See Reggie in the covers at top of post.)

Thank you!

I appreciate all the Christmas wishes for me and the crew and for your words of thanks for this blog.  I’m not sure I would put as much effort into my blog if it weren’t for the response it receives under each post.  You brighten my days and . . .

You add a lot to the spirit of Christmas!

Have a full-of-wonder Christmas Eve, everyone!

  8. Cynthia from San Clemente says:

Yes, it is finally cooling off out here in the West. I took the lightweight comforter off the bed yesterday and replaced it with my heavier weight comforter. With the windows slightly open last night, it was wonderful sleeping weather – especially with two furballs snuggled in with us!

I’m laughing out loud at all your BBQ accessories – I just knew you would turn into Martha Stewart BBQer!!! I just tried something the other night in the oven that I bet would work well on the BBQ. I cut up some onions and small potatoes and put them in the bottom of a bundt pan and then I plopped a small chicken on the center portion of the bundt pan and roasted it for an hour. The chicken came out nice and crispy and the veggies were divine with the chicken juices in them. I can’t wait to try it on the BBQ – could be a good substitute for rotesserie chicken!!

I hope you and the boyz have a peaceful, Merry Christmas and that all the blogorinos out there do too. Once again, we have made it through a year together and I am blessed by all of you!!!

  9. Kathy N in MI (brrrrr) says:

I’ve got to where I hate these Apple Systems Updates. Spelling is all screwed up, etc.
My post should have said Merry Christmas, Sue and boys. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to back space and correct this post. Any suggestions?

    • Denise - Richmond VA says:

Smack your iPad or Mac a time or two… 🙂

I agree with you, Cat Lady, the Apple updates sometimes make my sentences not make sense, too. Gotta love technology!

      Have a nice Christmas! 🙂

  15. Mary says:

Sue, did you know that a great Pyrenees does not know it is not a sheep. They are raised right with the sheep from day one and have very little contact with humans, if done correctly.

  16. Dawn in NC 🐕 says:

Merry Christmas Sue and Crew! I am fortunate as I get to spend Christmas with my family. My parents are getting older and I am really trying to just soak in the time that I have left with them. Merry Christmas Blogorinos!🎄🐾☃️❄️

    • Elizabeth in WA says:

Thinking of you with your folks, Dawn…have a wonderful day!! Talked to my good friend in Richmond last night…heh, she has a new kitty she named “Puppi”…thought that was funny!!

      • Ruthie in Fontana says:

Ha. that is funny “puppi” my grand daughter just adopted a cat that came with the name “Duck”. She didn’t change the name.

        • Elizabeth in WA says:

Haha…Duck is also a funny name…heh, but don’t most cats just come to “Kitty? I call my daughter’s cat, “Kitty” or “Cat”…seems she likes that as well or better than her name…heh!!

    • Cat Lady back home in Baton Rouge, La. says:

Dawn, years ago I recorded my favorite aunt. I conducted a casual interview with her asking about her and her siblings life when they were small…life in general for them as they were growing up. What she remembered about her parents. Stuff like that. I gave a copy to my cousin, one of her granddaughters. She’s been gone over 30 years but we can still watch and think of her. Just a thought you might want to try…or not.

      • Elizabeth in WA says:

        Great Idea Cat Lady!!

      • Cynthia from San Clemente says:

My son did something similar as an assigned class project in high school. He interviewed and recorded his grandfather about his early days in Orange County, California and his time in the Navy in WWII. It is so wonderful to be able to hear Grandpa’s voice, even after he has been gone more than 20 years.

      • Denise - Richmond VA says:

Over 30 years ago, one of my sisters taped (cassette tape!) an interview with our maternal grandparents as part of a school project to learn about her “roots.” Nephew #1 found the tape and converted it to CD and gave a copy to each of his aunties. Hearing my gran and grandpa telling the stories (which I heard many times as a child) about how they met, their trials and tribulations, and even listening to them sing. I am swept back in time, being a small child, always asking to hear the stories. My gran sings in Czech a little song about a mouse going to market to buy peas. I can almost feel the warmth of her hug as she rocked me on her lap, singing that song. 🙂

Rusty, I was just reading an April 2013 post when you were first going to get set up with a house through the VA. And of course also when you were here a couple of years ago. I am so happy you didn’t settle. You seem to have the perfect situation there in Tennessee. I was a little concerned about your recent health issue but it sounds like you are doing well now. Hope you don’t over indulge in Ice Cream and stay away from the doctors. Ha!
Yes, we are enjoying our wood stove this year too.

Enjoy your gifts and great food and “family”. I used to wish I could get people to write me letters because I so enjoyed getting mail. But since Sue “invented” a new way to get mail…

To all have a safe and healthy New Year.

    • Elizabeth in WA says:

Ruthie, I am still one of those who loves to write old fashioned letters and notes…heh, some of my friends get a small “book” at times…maybe Sue would consider a way to help some of us connect…I am not willing to put my address up here for public consumption…tis not wise these days…but I do enjoy writing…

I wish you happiness and peace on Christmas, Sue, boys, and all blogorinos. Sue, yours is the one rv travel blog I look forward to most. The boys are so entertaining, and your photos are so professional! You are appreciated!

    Merry Christmas Sue and boys!

We went snowshoeing today, as kind of our annual thing. I remember thinking next Christmas we’ll be South. Waaay South. In a desert somewhere, in a tiny home on wheels. Kind of bittersweet in a way, so I’m really enjoying the snow today.

    Cheers!

  55. Denise - Richmond VA says:

    Hello again, Sue!

I have some exciting news to share! My nephew #1 and his wife who were married this summer are expecting! He called me last week after their first ultrasound. I asked if little peanut’s heartbeat was strong, and if the doctor was pleased with the baby’s size. “Yes, everything looked good…**huge pause** ….Aunt Denise, we are having twins! There were two little heartbeats!” Double happiness and joy! I have to back up a bit to tell you the rest of the story… I have known about little peanut since the blood test confirmed they were expecting. My dear niece has several conditions that make getting pregnant (and being able to carry to term) a challenge. I was asked not to share the news, as they wanted to wait a while. I talk to my sister usually once a week, sometimes more. I have been filled with overwhelming joy and excitement and could not say a word! It has been a challenge to say the least!! Last night, my sister’s family held their traditional Christmas Eve dinner and gift exchange. After all the gifts were opened, the kids gave them each a small gift bag and told them to close their eyes and carefully open the gifts. Then they were told to open their eyes. Each held an ornament….Grandma/Grandpa’s 1st Christmas. They both sobbed with overwhelming joy. Then they opened an envelope that had a copy of the ultrasound showing TWO little peanuts! More happy tears! Oh, to have been a fly on the wall! I got the next best thing when my sister called me to excitedly share the details. 🙂

Happy, happy, joy, joy! I am going to be a great-auntie! I cannot wait! 🙂

    • Denise - Richmond VA says:

I forgot to mention….this sister reads your blog occasionally, and she and her hubby use your Amazon link. I did not dare mention anything sooner for fear that she would see my comment!!

    • rvsueandcrew says:

Oh, Denise… What a precious and exciting time for your family! Thank you for sharing your joy with us. And what better time to break the news about babies than on Christmas. Hugs to you and your sister and your entire family… So happy — doubly happy — at your news!

      “Merry Christmas, peanuts!” 🙂

    • Elizabeth in WA says:

Oh my what a fun event to look forward too!! May all go perfectly well with the pregnancy and delivery!! Take good care of the mama!! Thanks for sharing the joy with us, Denise!!
