The crew and I toodle over to Twin Palms RV Supply and Repair in Blythe in order to set up an appointment for the Best Little Trailer. She needs to have her 12-volt system fixed. Also her refrigerator’s fan is not working.
“I’m sorry we can’t give you an appointment right away,” Karen apologizes. “Our man was bitten by a spider and he had a bad reaction.”
“You sure it was a spider?”
“Yeah, it was. He’s sensitive to bites. He had to go to the hospital.” She checks the appointment calendar. “How about next Tuesday, the 14th, at 8:30? Would that be okay?”
Not only will it be okay, I’m delighted, given that my first attempt to get an appointment for RV service was LAST SPRING in Idaho. What’s a few more days?
Finally, I have an appointment! Fast forward to . . .
Tuesday, November 14
Before leaving our camp at Midland LTVA, there’s much to do.
I need to make room for the repair guy to work. I remove the large chest of drawers that sits under the two 12-volt receptacles and set it outside on the blue mat. I also remove the little table at the back of the BLT. A few other things go outside also. All this stuff I cover with the old comforter that the crew uses as a play mat.
After tidying and securing the interior of the BLT, I hitch up.
As I drive away in the dim, early morning light, I glance in the side mirror at the stuff left behind.
How sad . . . It’s a Charlie Brown campsite!
I empty the waste tanks at Midland LTVA’s dump station and off we go to Blythe, arriving just in time for . . .
The appointment!
John, the repair guy, checks fuses first and confirms that they all are good. After some detective work with his voltage meter, he sets to work on the wiring.
“I don’t like these snap-on connectors,” he says to himself as he replaces them with the regular kind..
Now he gets a better reading at the receptacles but not enough. Cleaning the contact points doesn’t help.
Replacing both receptacles does the trick. I push my inverter’s plug into the sockets and press the “on” button. The light comes on.
Oh happy day!
Next John gets the fan working on the refrigerator . A sensor was not making contact. I’m very relieved to have that fan working again. I’ve been concerned that my new fridge would overheat and fail.
Whew!
Let’s take a little break and look at a few photos, okay?
Cotton is still in the fields.
In some of the fields, harvesting has begun.
Bermuda hay is baled, waiting to be stacked . . .
While in another field, the sprinklers water the . . . um . . . alfalfa? vegetables?
“Hey, guys! Look! The sheep are back!”
I wonder if these sheep were in Idaho when we were there. Maybe they’re the ones who trotted past our campsite.
“Hi! Welcome to sunny southern California!”
Okay, back to the appointment.
Before settling the bill at Twin Palms RV, I puchase a new screen (actually two in a box for $13.53) for my Fantastic fan. The old one is too dirty and decrepit to clean.
(Learn From My Mistake: Do not fry food with the fan running on “out.” It will draw particles of grease into the screen which will collect dirt. Yuck.)

Heat at last!
In the sixteen days since the heater was installed we haven’t needed it. Not once. But it is very nice to know we have it when we need it!
