We have arrived!
After all these many months of writing on a delay of weeks, this blog has finally arrived at the present time. See the date in big orange print above the photo and the date further up in small gray print?
They match!
I had to cheat a little to make this happen. I skipped over the past two weeks of our camp here at Midland LTVA . Not that nothing happened during those two week, but we have slowed down since the 2017 spring-summer-fall quest for fun and new places has come to a close.
Winter is our time of rest.
I’ll summarize. Before I do that, about the photos . . . . Reggie and Roger have a friend who visits our camp almost every day! His camp is our nearest neighbor.
If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you may recognize him. Reggie met him last March.
Okay, well, we arrived at Midland LTVA on Sunday, November 5th.
That’s the day Daylight Savings Time ended, a fitting beginning for our winter break.
I set up camp far from the road, by ourselves, next to a small wash and a palo verde. The weather has been warm — highs in the 80s, lows in the 40s and 50s. This is just what I need after freezing my buttsky in Utah last month. I think Reggie and Roger need it, too, judging by the way they loll in the sun, deliriously content.
Muscles relaxed, bellies exposed.
One night we had a dust storm (just for fun) and then went back to balmy-to-hot days, calm and sometimes breezy, although today is cool and windy.
Early this morning I woke up to the clang and clatter of stuff being blown off the outside table.
The beauty of boondocking:
So what if my stuff is scattered all over. No one is around to see it or to care. I’ll chase it down in the morning.
(Roll over, go back to sleep.)
I paid $180 for the LTVA permit.
That sets us up for a few months since the permit is good until April 15. We won’t stay the entire time. Enough to make the permit a good deal. We could pay $40 for two weeks, rinse and repeat.
There’s a nice feeling though, knowing we have a plot of ground of “our own” stretching out before us.
The boys and I covered a lot of territory this past year, hopscotching to northwestern Montana and back.

I meet the new camp host at Midland LTVA.
His name is Byron (love that name!) and he’s a jolly fellow. Like most camp hosts, he’s very helpful. We had a good conversation. Being fulltimers, our talk went to the subject of our travels and free camps. Byron shared information about his boondocks near Wahlsenberg, Colorado. He even drew me a map!
Nice guy.
A big event during the past few weeks was having the heater installed and the 12-volt system fixed, as well as the fan on the fridge.
As for waxing the BLT, I’ve lost my ambition. That job is only about one-third done. I’ll get to it eventually. (Eventually — a well-used word of any procrastinator!)
I did tear apart the interior of the BLT in a massive tornado of cleaning. This was followed by major sorting and reorganizing of the cabinets, something I’ve found I need to do at least once a year.
Let’s see, what else have we done . . . .
Mostly we drift through the days, go on long walks, buzz into town to shop, hit the laundry, browse the library. We relax in our outdoor room. I read. We nap.
