Leaving Bigfoot behind, onward to Pleasant Valley

Sunday, July 23 (continued)

The last we see of Bigfoot he’s entering the Dirty Shame Saloon in Yaak, Montana.

“Well, that was a memorable moment,” I remark to the crew, as we drive out of town.

Route 68 takes us through thick forest with the only sign of humans being the road we follow through the trees.  We motor further on Route 567, completing the Yaak loop and arriving at Libby.

Libby is bustling this Sunday afternoon!

I drive us along the river searching for a shady boondock.

We cross the dam and continue the search.  Every possible site is occupied.  A hot day in July draws people to the river with their rafts and vacationing spirit.

The crew and I settle into Woodland RV Park.

I hook up to the WiFi, read and reply to emails, and catch up on the news.  A weather website tells me the temperature in Libby this afternoon is 99 degrees.

After a shower I realize I’m too tired to blog. The crew and I luxuriate in a long nap in the air conditioned Best Little Trailer.

(If you’re interested in Woodland RV Park, see my recent post, “Respite from the heat!”)

What a day this has been!  Was it only this morning we left a note for Dan and Gabby?

Monday, July 24

Well rested and refreshed, I write a post for this blog and then we hit the road, going south on Route 2.  It seems every main road in Montana follows the course of a creek or river.Today the road partners with Libby Creek, and then with Fisher River.

We’ve only traveled about 30 miles when we come upon another campground of Kootenai National Forest.

I love those brown and white signs!

Pleasant Valley Campground is an equestrian campground.  Reg, Rog and I walk the campground and come across the corrals and feeding stations.

The corral area is tidy with no indication that horses have been here recently.

No one else is in the campground.

Pleasant Valley is delightfully shady and cool.

There’s no internet, of course, but the camping fee makes up for that.

Free!

Yay!  This compensates for the RV park last night!

The Best Little Trailer nestles into a shady campsite.

I set up our outdoor room, the crew plays on their quilt, and I read my Paperwhite.  I’m into Winston Graham’s series beginning with Ross Poldark: A Novel of Cornwall, 1783-1787.

I purchased the first book for next to nothing in a temporary kindle deal.  Now I’m hooked and paying full price for the ones that follow.  Which is the whole point of offering a deal for the first book.

Oh, well.  I’m enjoying the tale and it’s a harmless way to relax.

Later in the afternoon another camper pulls in.

Shortly thereafter they fire up their generator, but — aha! — I have a defense against that noise.

The crew and I lie down for a nap with the Fantastic Fan going (in the ceiling vent).  The hum of our fan is pleasant and sleep-inducing while it pushes the generator sound into the background!

Tuesday, July 25

The crew and I meet a woman traveling with her teardrop trailer.  She arrived at the campground after dark last night.  Perhaps she has a good reason for setting up camp in the dark.  I have never done that and I hope I never have to!

“Okay, little buddies, in you go.  Let’s find us a camp next to water!”

And one with internet would be nice.
