RVSue and Reggie are camped at Poverty Flats, south of Overton, about 60 miles northeast of Las Vegas.
I really like this camp!
The Best Little Trailer rocks, the ceiling vent rattles, and the wind whistles and wails as it blasts across the mesa. I peer out the back window.
Vivid slashes of blue and pink!
Ooh! I have to get a photo of that!
“I’ll be back in a minute, Reg.”
I step out into the wind, shutting the door behind me.
The world is awash in pink! I snap the photo and turn. At that moment the head of a bighorn sheep appears above the edge of the mesa, right in front of our campsite, right in front of me!
Quickly the sheep drops from view.
I hurry to the cliff edge. The cliff is practically vertical and I can’t see it because I’m on a ledge extending out further than the rock face.
The wind is fierce, causing me to stagger backward. I look down into the badlands to my right.
There they are!
A second after I take the photo above, the herd vanishes to the other side of the slope.
I want to wait for them to reappear but the wind is too strong for me. It’s difficult to keep my balance.
I turn and receive another surprise . . . .
“Wow!”
Leaning forward, head bowed into the wind, I make my way to the BLT.
“Reggie, I can’t believe this!” I exclaim as I burst into our home. “What a show! And bighorn sheep in our front yard! ”
I plop down on the bed beside Reg in stunned amazement.
Incredible. Absolutely incredible . . . Gee, I really do love this camp . . . .
