“Ya know, guys? This place sure could use some sprucing up.”
I’m sitting on my bed with the crew at my side. Bridget and Reggie lift their heads.
“Look at these pillow shams. They’re threadbare! And this quilt! Faded, drab, UGLY. As for this comforter, I’m done trying to hold it together with needle and thread!”
The crew looks around the interior of our home, wondering at the source of my passionate outburst so early in the morning.
“C’mon, crew. We’re going shopping!”
By the time we’re inside the Perfect Tow Vehicle, rolling out of Buckeye Hills Recreation Area, our mission is clearly defined. We will attack the bedding department at Wal-Mart. Well, I’ll do the attacking. Bridget and Reggie will hold down the fort PTV in the parking lot.
As I peruse the shelves of bedding, I keep in mind that I want fresh, cheerful colors and a design that will help conceal “dirt” between trips to the laundromat.
Fast forward . . .
“Bridgie? Show ’em what we got.”
“Okay, RVSue. Here it is everybody. . . our new quilt and new shams. Aren’t the colors and design wonderful? You can’t help smiling when you look at it, it’s so pretty!”
“I just LOVE the pattern. The whole effect is very flattering, don’t you think?”
“Never mind, Reggie. . . . We also have a new, color coordinated comforter (behind me in the photo). It’s super soft and luxurious. RVSue rolls it into a bolster during the daytime and then she puts it over us at night. It floats like a cloud around us so you feel . . . . ”
“Excuse me, Bridge. Well done, sweetie. Thanks.”
Okay. I’m not done telling you about shopping at Wal-mart.
After I load the cart with quilt, shams, comforter, and new bed pillows, I cruise around the end of the bedding aisle and come to a swift halt.
Is that what I think it is? Oh, oh . . .
I shove the cart into high gear and we burn rubber as we barrel down the wide, center aisle toward a display of . . .
Storage drawers!
Hmm . . . a good, calm color — the same as the BLT’s walls — and roomy, nice, and not too heavy. I pull open a drawer. Oh my, they glide on wheels! Gee, perfect except for one thing — too tall.
Just then a Wal-Mart employee comes along. (How fortuitous is that!) He helps me disassemble one of the drawers and load the unit on top of my already full shopping cart.
After seeing how it fits in the BLT, we go back to Wal-mart the next day and I buy two more. The three units provide nine — NINE — deep, wide drawers for storage!
The drawers extend from the side of the refrigerator all the way to the back. Not only do they look great, they fit so snugly that I doubt they will tumble off the fiberglass channel they rest on whenever we bump along rough roads and desert floor.
The new bedding and the three storage units propel me into full-throttle decorating!
I make several trips back and forth to Wal-Mart and Dollar City in Buckeye. The top of the storage units is too plain, especially with the pattern and colors of the new bedding on the opposite side. These three placemats ($2 each) are a nice touch, don’t you think?
I secured them with a removable adhesive of the “chewed gum” type. It’s called Quakehold! Museum Putty 
I have a grand time organizing all my stuff in the spacious drawers.
I use the smaller drawers from the old storage units to make compartments. At Dollar City I pick up small plastic boxes with lids to corral little items. I organize the top cabinets, too.
Did you notice the new colander?
After using a cheap, too tiny, plastic colander for over four years, I want a sturdy, big one for washing vegetables. The little one is good for berries. While in a shopping frenzy, I see this enamel colander and in the same color as the comforter. Perfect!
I have a rule about what I bring into my little house.
Every item must pass the weight-to-function test.
“What is the weight-to-function test?” you ask, leaning foward, bursting with curiosity.
Well, first off, the item must have a function other than being decorative.
At best, the item serves more than one function. Also the weight that the item adds to our home must be justified by the level of its importance. In other words, too much weight for the purpose of the item? No, we don’t want it. Ideally, the item is multi-functional, very important in use, and it adds very little weight.
Note: In the photo above . . . battery voltage meter in socket, bracket for hanging TV (black), 12 volt outlet and antenna button (white), wall calendar, and the panic button for the “Tooter” (air horn).
Let’s look at the weight-to-function of the colander.
It scores high on function — I can wash vegetables with it and it also serves as a fruit bowl. It scores middle-to-low on weight — It’s not real heavy, but it’s heavier than need be. A plastic one would be much lighter.
However, it serves a third function, not a necessary function, but, hey . . . I like it! It’s pretty! And just the right touch of color!
Let’s get back to the storage drawers.
One problem. With the fixed, pedestal table set up under the back window (the table that comes with a Casita), I can’t open the storage drawers. I take out that table and its support pole, and replace it with a table I can move and also fold up and put away, if I want.
I choose a folding chair to go with it.
The chair has a padded, faux suede seat but no back cushion. I find a reversible cushion with both sides matching the color scheme. I tie it to the back. Voila! (No more sitting on the bed without back support while blogging.)

Oh yeah, that’s the spare keyboard (above) I tried when the letter “m” was stuck.

This view is looking to the back of the BLT at the foot of our bed.
When I put the pillows at the head of my bed (not shown), Reggie thought they made a fine bed. That gave me the idea to remove the doggie bed at the foot of the bed and put two more pillows there. Looks much better and . . .
Reggie likes it!
Reggie begins his night’s sleep in the pillows. In the middle of the night, he sits up and whimpers. I bring him up next to me and he sleeps the rest of the night curled up beside me under the comforter and alongside Bridget.
We’re a close-knit family.
I think you can tell that I’m delighted with the new look inside the Best Little Trailer. Everything came from Wal-mart and Dollar City (inexpensive).
