Canine play dates, electric folding bikes, and a quick recovery

Thursday, March 3

P1090747Two play dates for the crew in one day!

The first date is with Tony the Norfolk Terrier at his campsite not far from us at Buckeye Hills Recreation Area, west of Phoenix.  The Perfect Tow Vehicle carries us there.  Bridget has miraculously recovered from the recent leg incident, but I don’t want her to overdo by walking from our campsite to Tony’s campsite, so I drive us there.  (More about Bridget’s recovery later.)

You may remember when we first met Tony and his mom, Cheri.

It was in November of 2014 at Roosevelt Lake, east of Phoenix.  Here’s the post that shows their neat, camper van, as well as a portrait of Tony that is much better than any I took today — “Different rigs for different vagabonds.”

Tony is a cutie!

P1090742I think Tony is meant to be a desert dog.

Look how he blends in!  Excellent camouflage!

P1090746Tony at 7 pounds weighs about two pounds less than Reggie.

Reggie connects with his Jack Russell terrier-ness and runs around the campsite, playing with Tony, while Cheri and I talk non-stop.   Bridget relaxes in the shade under the picnic table.

“Well, that was fun, wasn’t it,” I remark to the crew as I start up the PTV and we head back to our campsite.

Later in the afternoon, the crew hears a noise outside our window and immediately bursts into a barking frenzy.

More canine pals!

Samantha (Sammy) the beagle and Julie the dachshund pull up in their little red car attached to a battery-powered bike.

P1090760“Hi, Julie!  Hi, Sammy!  That’s quite a set of wheels you got there!”

P1090762These electric, folding bikes are a nice set of wheels also.

P1090756You can read more about the e-Joe bike at this Amazon page: 2015 e-JOE Epik Sport Edition SE Midnight Black Folding Electric Bike, and here’s a link for the canine “car”” — Original Doggyhut Medium Pet Bicycle Trailer Dog Carrier in Red.

Of course, the crew enjoys the company of their pals, while I enjoy the company of my friends.

I show off my efforts at revamping the interior of the Best Little Trailer, even though clutter is all over.  Well, I’m taking my time, making sure I put things away in an organized manner.  On the next slow-news day I’ll show you the results.

The sun dips behind the hill by our campsite.

Soon it is time for the second canine play date to end.

P1090767Off they go, quieter than a whisper, down the lane to their campsite!

Okay, about Bridget’s leg pain . . .

Those of you who read comments already know that the issue has been resolved.  Let me tell you what happened.

It’s around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, the day prior to the canine play dates.  (Bridget first experienced pain about 25 hours previously.)  I gave her a half-pill of Tramadol around 9 a.m. and she doesn’t needed another one.  Great progress!  Even so, I don’t want her to strain that back leg, so I carry her outside.

I interrupt this tale to show you something totally unrelated.

Oh my, look at that!   What a strange bird!

P1090741Okay, back to the story about Bridget’s leg.

Reggie needs to be walked.

I figure Bridget would prefer to sit outside and wait for us to return, rather than be shut up in the BLT.  I place her on the blue mat.

“See you in a bit, Bridge.”

Reggie and I walk out to the lane.  I glance back . . . I don’t believe it!  I do not believe it!

Here comes Bridget and she’s stepping lively!

“Bridget!  You’re all better!  How did you do that, honey?”

She wiggles her butt, wags her tail, and flashes her sparkling eyes at me.

What in the world?  Suddenly she’s fit and ready to go with us on a walk?

Reggie sprints over to express his surprise.

“Isn’t this great, Reggie?  Miss B is all better!”

A brief, celebratory dance and then, together, the three of us take off down the lane.  Bridget trots alongside me, her stride brisk, smooth, and light.  She repeatedly shoots proud and happy looks at me.

I stop her to give her a few pats.

“I am so proud of you, Bridget!  Wow!  What a surprise!  Thank God you’re okay, sweetheart.”

I do believe I see a grin on her face!

NOTE:  I feel somewhat sheepish about Bridget’s quick recovery after writing with so much concern in the previous post. Honestly, it did look like it would be a long healing process.  What a relief to see her in no pain and using that leg again!
