Countdown!
My last day of work is Tuesday, May 31st. Once I am retired and my days become truly my own, I will go into high gear to get things done before I’m off to fulltime in my camper.
My “To Do” List
I’d like to have this list done by mid-July. This is not a complete list, just the biggies:
- Have a Class III tow hitch put on the Perfect Tow Vehicle. At the same time have a Tekonsha Prodigy electric brake controller installed.
- Have a transmission cooler installed.
- Take the firearm class, decide what gun is right for me, purchase it, and practice shooting (a lot) at the firing range.
- Plan and enjoy a weekend with younger sister in Florida.
- Make some more essential purchases, including a Garmin Nuvi GPS, a camera with zoom, tripod, step ladder, another dog life jacket, another folding exercise pen.
- Establish South Dakota residency using the services of America’s Mailbox
- Finalize the sale of the house.
- Get financial stuff in order.
- Pack.
- Say goodbye to friends and Janie and Jumbo Kitty
-
Hit the road!
- And be sure to write in my blog every day . . .

Wow – you are really moving along! BYW, congratulations on your impending retirement!
Thank you!
If your van does not have a transmission cooler get one installed.

I forgot all about the transmission cooler! There is so much going on in my life right now… My “to do” list is just the stuff that rose to the top.
Thanks for reminding me. I’m going to edit that post so I’m sure to get ‘er done!
Looks like a plan, but remember all plans are written in Jello 🙂
You did ask for help the other day. :))
Have you looked at the newest brake controller ? The RF just plugs into a power outlet in the car and everything else is mounted on the trailer.
It is more money, ( naturally ) but I like the idea for if you might have to change TV’s all you have to do is plug the controller into a power outlet. It sends the signal to the box on the trailer via radio signal.
This is just my opinion and understanding of the way it works.

Uh, Bill, I just reread your comment.
What’s this business about “you might have to change TVs…”
We do not, I repeat, we do not… utter those words on my blog. In fact, it is against the rules to even think that thought while viewing my blog.
Sincerely,
rvsue, the head honcho rule-maker of this here blog
Bill,
Now that I have gotten over the shock of your reckless statement about the Perfect Tow Vehicle … thanks for the link about the brake controller. I looked at it and couldn’t find a price, but then I’m just home from a killer workday and not in my right mind. I’ll continue to research it.
Congrats on your retirement! Really enjoy reading your blog. I retire June 3rd and my wife and I will be heading out for a month long excursion in the Casita. We’ve had ours almost a year, you’re gonna love yours, I’m sure!
If you’re travels lead you to Albuquerque, and you want a free dinner, just shoot me an email. We always enjoy talking to fellow ‘Casitans’.
Good luck! in your retirement!
p.s. Having worked with electronic control systems as an engineer for 35+ years, I’d be a little concerned with a wireless rf brake controller. Maybe I’m just an old dude, but hard wires are much more reliable than any radio signal, IMHO. :o)
Dave,
Thank you for congratulations and the invitation for a free dinner!
It means a lot to hear another Casitan tell me I’m going to love my Casita. She’s like a mail-order bride. I’m pledged to live with her a long, long time and we’ve never even met!
I hope you keep on enjoying my blog.
I don’t know what to think right now about the brake controller (which kind to get). Both you and Bill make a lot of sense. Price may make the decision for me. One thing about the decision to fulltime. . . Once you make that decision, there’s a gazillion more decisions to make!
Best wishes and hello to Mrs. Dave.
Oops, open mouth insert foot.
Here is a link with price, don’t go into shock.
I suppose the reason RF doesn’t bother me is I am a amateur radio operator.
I think this address both of your comments.
