No marshmallow chicks at our house!

Happy Easter from Reggie, Roger and RVSue!

Hello, Bloroginos and Stealth Readers!

This pic of chicks all dressed up for Easter Sunday isn’t one of mine.  I found it elsewhere on the internet.  It’s perfect for this post because . . . we have chicks at our house!

I brought them home a few weeks ago.

Four chicks:  one Rhode Island Red, one Barred Rock, one Buff Orpington, and a Laced Wyandotte.  My future layin’ hens.

I house them in a kiddie pool (blue plastic, $7.99).  I bought two pools.  One pool is where the chicks go.  I cut out a big square in the second pool and placed it, inverted, on top of the other one to create a roof.  The cut-out area is covered with a panel from the crew’s old, metal, foldable pen that I’ve had since 2011 (before hitting the road full-time).

This pool house is set on top of a table in the laundry room in order to keep the chicks out of reach of Reggie and Roger.   Speaking of Roger, he’s fascinated by the chicks.  He whines for me to pick him up so he can look them.  Reggie doesn’t much care.

The chicks aren’t tiny tumbleweeds any longer.

They’re about 5, maybe 6, weeks old and most of their baby fluff is gone.  Active little devils.  Jumping, running, pecking, pooping, staging chick-races around the perimeter of the pool, kicking up pine shavings, knocking over their waterer, stepping in their feed . . . .

Accustomed to my voice and curious, they give me the chicken-eye whenever I peer through the “skylight.”

Finding a coop . . . .

One day while walking the crew, I notice a neighbor up the street has a coop in his back yard without any chickens in it, so I inquire about it.  He says he built it for ducks that his child brought home.  Having no use for it anymore, he sells it to me for $200.

That may seem like a lot to spend on four chickens.  It is.  However, he tells me he put $600 into building it and I believe him.  It’s very well made.  Hey, I don’t want any chickens of mine living in a shabby coop!

A friend built a chicken run attached to the coop.

I painted the coop and the frame of the run so Cooptown looks pretty spiffy in the back yard.  Now that Arizona temperatures are moving into the 80s each day with lows in the 50s, and also now that the chicks are almost fully feathered, they can move out of the laundry room within the next few days.

O Happy Day!

Like moms everywhere who look forward to the day when there are no more dirty diapers to change, I can hardly wait for my little ones to graduate from their in-house nursery to the Big Chicken Coop outside!

NOTE:   It’s late Saturday and I’m running out of steam so I’m posting this, as is, in order to have it up for Easter Sunday.  I may add more to this post in the coming days.

Dear Blogorinos, thank you for keeping the conversation going with your comments.  Know that I read each one and care about you and what is happening in your life.  Thanks also for your personal notes to me.

Reg, Rog, and I are happy, healthy, and content in our home.  Oh, and a blogorino asked about the roses . . . . Yes, they made it through the winter and we have three blooms already!    — Sue

Happy Easter! Good to hear from you.

It’s wonderful to hear from you,Sue! Happy Easter to you and to everyone reading this.

Raising chicks, having them grow up and live there is a fine idea. Our neighbors had a full chicken coop where I lived as a child. At four years old I told their daughter I could bake. We collected several eggs and our attempt at a cake turned into custard. I haven’t improved much in that department 😉.

All’s well in my world,I hope and pray the same for you.

  3. Elizabeth says:

Glad for your update Sue and that things are well!!! Loved having chickens years ago…yea, smelly creatures, but what fine pets too!! Hope it all goes well with your!!

  4. Janet Johnson says:

Happy Easter to you and the boys! We had chicks a few years ago and were sad how quickly they feathered out and looked like little hens. They were so much fun to watch. We lived on a large acreage so they could free range during the day, and while they didn’t like to be picked up much, they loved hanging out around us. It was fun to watch them scratching in the leaves for bugs and taking baths in the dirt. We unfortunately had too many predators and not a nice solid pen for them. I’d love to see your coop and pictures of the chicks! You will really enjoy them, and they were not a hard upkeep.

  5. Janet Parker Doublier says:

Nice to see how you’re all doing. Thanks for this. Happy Easter and health and happiness.

  6. James Herron says:

Good to hear from you again, I have foiled you and the dogs for years

  7. Sandi says:

Dear Sue and furbabies. What a welcome surprise to see your latest blog. What a welcome surprise on this Easter Sunday. So wonderful to just hear from you and to know all is well with you and yours. Your blog reminded me of the chick’s my papa bought for us one Easter when I was just a kid and the joy it brought me to watch them grow and the anticipation of what they would bring us (eggs). Mama on the other hand was not as enthusiastic. Hope you are well and have had a chance to get your COVID shot. Look forward to seeing more pics of the furbabies and their silly antics. Take good care and happy Easter 🐣. God speed to you. Sandi from Delaware.

  8. Chickens! I sometimes ‘chicken sit’ the neighbor’s chickens when she’s away. They have a lot of personality, and I sort of like going over there to feed them and let them in or out of their coop. They were always glad to see me. I like to think it’s my personality, but husband says it’s just that I feed them and they like food. Whatever, right? Enjoy your girls, I imagine you’ll enjoy the eggs too!

  9. Carrie ~ TN says:

Hi Sue! Thank you for the update. So glad y’all are doing well and that you have sweet new family members. Happy Easter!

  10. Eliza says:

Happy Easter! It’s so wonderful to hear this news and know you all are continuing to thrive. A friend of mine (in Georgia!) got chickens. Due to wild dogs, he also now has donkeys. The chickens are so beautiful, and when he sits on his back porch they insist on lots of hugs.

  11. Millie says:

Happy Easter to you Sue! and the Boys too!! Such a nice note on this Easter morning. Sounds like all is well down on your “farm” 😁 sounds like the chicks have a wonderful hone with you – no surprise there! All the best to you on this blessed day.
    Millie

  12. ApplegirlNY says:

Happy Easter, Everyone! He is Risen!
Love the chick story, Sue. Great to hear from you.
We’ve often considered raising chickens for eggs. There’s nothing like those fresh really rich yolks. I hear they will also help keep the ticks down in the yard. Unfortunately, like Janet above mentioned, I think we’d have predator trouble.

  13. Dave Stewart says:

Great to see what you are up to! Happy Easter to you, and the Boys !!

  14. Piper says:

Happy Easter! So happy to see your latest blog!

  15. Alice says:

Happy Easter to you and the boy & chicks to !! Sounds like a nice set up. Glad to hear you are well. Stay well & safe.

Happy Easter from Duluth, MN right near Lake Wobegon where all the RVers are above average or at least close to it.

  17. Calvin in Columbus says:

    Hi, Sue!

I’m glad you, Reggie, and Roger are happy, healthy, and content. Sunshine and roses, pleasant temperatures, and things to do make for a sweet life.

  18. John McDonald says:

Happy Easter from John in Duluth, MN just a few camping spaces from Lake Wobegon where all the rvers are above average or close to it.
    Cheers and good health.

  19. Barb in Florida says:

Happy Easter, Sue, Reggie & Roger! Cute picture. Those chicks look like they are at a dance. Did you name yours yet? Dad brought two chicks and a bunny home from work one Easter. He worked for a drug company. We didn’t have the chicks long. The bunny lasted longer but eventually all moved to a friend’s farm. Great to hear from you, Sue!

  20. Terri in New Mexico says:

Happy Easter! I had two sets of Buff Orpingtons mixed with Black Australorps (the Australian version of Buffs). I enjoyed them and got lots of eggs. We had a huge fenced pen for them, and a big metal building for them. I gave away eggs constantly. Some people keep lights on constantly in the Winter to keep them laying, but I thought that was mean, so I didn’t get nearly as many eggs in the winter. We are impatiently waiting our Escape trailer, from Canada, to be built and it will be ready in June. A beautiful, fibreglass Egg! We plan on a big trip to Colorado and Utah this Fall, now that we are vaccinated. Lots of Social distancing, though. We took a brief trip to Texas to stand vigil for my MIL who just passed from Covid. Get vaccinated everyone-its not a good way to go. I don’t know if I will ever get the images out of my head. Anyway, don’t mean to b a downer. Anxiously waiting to see if there is more camping or boondocking in your future, RV Sue! Happy Easter Everyone!

    • I’m so sorry to read about your Mother-in-law! Hugs.

    • Deena in Phoenix says:

Terri, I am sorry for your loss. Hugs and prayers.

    • Christian, Dad and Tommie in FL says:

I’m sorry you lost your MIL to this awful pandemic. I’m sure there is no solace in knowing that you are not alone in your loss. My sympathies and prayers for you and your family.

I too am looking forward to you getting your Escape Trailer. As a fellow Escapee, 17B towed with a Chevy Silverado, I share your enthusiasm for those wonderful fiberglass trailers. Happy travels are in your future.

    • Denise - Richmond VA says:

      Hi, Terri,

I am so sorry for your loss. Keeping your family in my prayers. **hugs**

An Escape trailer! How exciting…June is just around the corner! 😊

  21. AirstreamingPagey says:

    Happy Easter from Death Valley!
Glad you, the pups and chicks are happy and thriving.
After six years on the road, we are looking for a place to settle down. Hope we find a place a lovely as yours.
    Be well all!

  22. Laura says:

Love the post – it’s good to hear from you and that all is well. Enjoy the new members to your crew.

  23. Andrea Eagles says:

Love the update! Pictures please of the chicks and that spiffy coop.

  24. Happy Easter! Hmmm chickens…now I’ll learn all about raising chickens from your blog 🙂 My neighbor down the street has chickens and a turkey. My daughter lives next door to her neighbor with chickens. Rudy and Mimi bark at the chickens but don’t chase & the chickens cluck back at the dogs.

I lost three family members one after the other in 2020…so sad. One of them being my youngest sister Sue and my traveling partner. I cried for weeks and I’m not quiet over grieving. She died from complications from her diabetes. I also lost a nephew and a cousin. We barely had time to bury one and the other died. I know lots of folks who’s family were reduced one too many by covid and my heart goes out to them. Yes, we all finally got vaccinated but that won’t guarantee we won’t get infected so we still take procautions.

Dark and cold clouds have finally cleared and the sun is blasting heating up and our trees, flowers and planted garden are all florishing. I keep busy. Good to hear all is well with you, Reg, Rog and the chickens. Can’t wait for next post and pics of chicken coop. It brings back memories from my young days. Have a wonderful Easter.

  25. Rob says:

Happy Easter and enjoy your first egg!

  26. Easin' Along says:

    Sue,
What a great Easter treat to hear from you and the crew! Now that you’ve added chicks to the crew, I hope you’ll keep us posted. Would love to see their pictures and hope you give them names. My son in SC has roosters running wild in his neighborhood and it’s a lot of fun. We’re vaccinated and ready to hit the road. Will be in AZ next month. Keep it cool for us. Joe

  27. EmilyO in southern NM says:

Happy Easter to You Sue and all your readers. My neighbor’s egg supplier feeds her chickens green chile (not red, yellow or green peppers as they aren’t good). It does make the yolk darker and there is a little, little bit of taste difference in the yolk. Hot and spicy is the key and is good for chickens health I read.

  28. Pamela Campbell says:

Hi, Sue – Good to know you are doing well. I sold my Casita last May and don’t regret any of the four plus years I lived in it full time.
There’s a yarn dyer who has collections of yarn she dyes that match her backyard chickens. Gorgeous! I’ve bought some and think she does a great job with the colors. I didn’t know chickens could be that colorful! Her company is called HueLoco. Her name is Nicole. You might like seeing her chicks.
    Take care. Pamela

  29. Nora now in Pascagoula says:

Hi Sue, Great to hear from you.
I used to have chickens in Texas. Just hope yours are all female. The roosters are ferocious! They used to attack whenever they saw me. Didn’t matter that I was feeding them. Sadly, all of my chickens were lost to the neighborhood dogs but I did enjoy having fresh eggs. The yolks were so much yellower than the store bought ones.
Getting pretty warm here in Mississippi too after a late cold spell last week. Really working on the garden this year.
Glad you continue to post and I look forward to the next one.

  30. Barbara (Nashville) says:

Happy Easter Sue and Crew. Was so glad to see a post from you and know all is well with all. Unlike other blogorinos, I have never had chickens, just dogs and cats.

Like Rita from Phoenix, I am still grieving myself from the death of my hubby and my Angel. I miss them both so much.

My sister will be here on Thursday to help me finish getting rid of a lot of useless stuff. I have already donated a lot of things and had plenty of throw away. I am also having the house painted and new flooring put in. Then if I decide to sell it, it will be ready.

I am taking a train trip with my friend and neighbor late September to the Rockies and Utah. Really looking forward to it. Next spring I hope to rent a van camper and travel out west again to see if I will actually like living on the road. I have wanted to do that for so long, but the world seems in a state of chaos these days, so I may not feel so comfortable. Will keep you all posted.

    • Barb in Florida says:

Hi Barbara! Sending some prayers, love & big hugs to you too.
Enjoy your sister time and glad to see the excitement and hopeful
plans in the last paragraph. Happy Easter!

    • Denise - Richmond VA says:

      Hi, Barbara,

I am so very sorry to hear about you losing your dear husband and sweet Angel. Keeping you in my prayers and sending love and **hugs**.

Your travel plans sound exciting! I hope you will let us know how your van camper excursion goes – have fun planning out your trip! 😊

  31. Christian, Dad and Tommie in FL says:

Ooooh chicks! I am planning on keeping hens for eggs when I have my hideaway homestead. I can’t wait to hear more about how your hens progress. I guess you’ll have some fresh Easter eggs soon. It’s so good to hear from you and know that you and the crew are well.

  32. Pat Janensch says:

So pleased to hear from you on this beautiful (but HOT) Easter morning.
    Stay well
    Pat (Gilbert, AZ)

  33. Jolene/Iowa says:

Happy Easter Sue and everyone else!!

So good to hear from you Sue! Glad all is well.

Oh little chicks and chickens, you will have so much fun! I am typing on my phone and will type more later.

One website I will direct you to is called the Chicken Chick. She has a wealth of great information.

    Talk to you all later!

  34. Suzicruzi says:

    Ahh Sue,
    Hugs and smooches. That’s all.

    Suzi

  35. Chris B & Diego says:

Happy Easter, Sue! Good to hear that all is going well. We had a chicken when we were kids. It was fun having egg hunts after school.

  36. Elaine says:

Happy Easter! Thank you for the update, Sue! I think of you and your crew often. I’m in my 4th year of solo rving thanks to your story. Miss Lovey and I are enjoying life volunteering at state parks in Florida. I do plan on traveling next year. So happy to hear about your chicks! Have you named them?

  37. Wendy C - Bribie Is, Oz says:

Happy Easter, so nice to a post and know your all happy and healthy. Enjoy the chickens and future eggs.

Happy Easter as well to all who read

  38. Deena in Phoenix says:

This is a wonderful surprise. Zo will be thrilled to hear about the Chicks and how the Boys are reacting. I am thankful that you are doing well and Reg and Rog are still around for the new adventures you take then on.

My 1st time out since March 18, 2020 was with the EMTs came to take me to ER, stayed four days then home; 2nd visit out was three days later when the same EMTs came to visit again, this time twelve days. After many tests and several units of blood I have been home for two weeks…doing better each day though still weak. Many appts this month, I am well just need to start walking again. I had many conversations with hospital staff about RVSue and her Canine Crew. Heard many stories from them about childhoods spent RVing in the summers and how some use their parents RVs to assist with lodging for college. It was a weird experience but I survived and looking forward to getting out and about now that I gotten the covid vaccine.

Happy Easter to you and the blogorinos. This is a great and safe place to enjoy every day when we choose to visit.

    Hugs and positivity to All!

  39. How fun to have new chicks and their new house all ready for spring/summer. We’re definitely heating up fast already. Glad we’re hitting the road at last and off to cooler environs 🙂
Good to hear from you and know you and the crew are doing well.

  40. alex says:

I’m glad to hear you and the boys are doing well. And the new additions to the family, very exciting and can’t wait to see photos of them on their new house. I’d like to get chickens, but my yard is so wet much of the year I don’t think they’d be happy or healthy in it. Not to mention my dogs are larger and more predatory. 😔

  41. jazzlover says:

Happy Spring Sue, Reggie and Roger! Chicks huh? They will be entertaining after a while. They seem to have their own personalities according to some folks and that will be interesting as they grow. With the cage you bought you can always add a few more if it was originally made for ducks. Your property is fenced in so you should not have any trouble with predators except for hawks maybe?
Hearing from you is a wonderful springtime shot in the arm. How do you like the Silverado, and have you had it in 4wd yet? Still cold here in the Northeast, was 21 at 5am two days ago. Makes me wish for Arizona. Have you or any one here heard that Casita is no longer making trailers? Read that in a blog this week, not sure if it’s correct or not. Fiberglass trailers are scare in the East.
Take Care and Be Well Always!

    • EmilyO in southern NM says:

No truth to the rumor. They close over the Easter weekend and their website says they are opening on Monday, April 5 at 8 a.m. They do have restricted showroom hours due to covid and have shortened their demo pickup experience for the same reason.

      • jazzlover says:

Oh great, Thank You Emily O in southern NM, those reasons make perfect sense. Used Casita’s are extremely scarce here in the North East, gone before the ad gets old. We spent some time years back around Truth or Consequences and Elephant Butte State Park pretty country and the mineral baths were wonderful!

  42. Eileen says:

I enjoyed reading about the little additions to your family, and that picture you found is soooo cute. I’m sure that, at some point in the future, you’ll be enjoying delicious fresh eggs. Sounds like you found a safe, comfortable home for them. Happy Easter to you, Reggie and Roger!

  43. Laurie Milliard says:

So great to hear from you! Great chicken story! I can just see Roger wanting to be picked up to look at them. I’m glad you are all doing well and expanding your family!
    Love from Laurie in Florida

  44. Karen LeMoine says:

Was beginning to think Sue ran off and got married 😆 I love chick’s make great pets. I doubt Sue will be bsck on the road with such a crew. But never know.My condolences to those who have .out family members.

  45. Irene Austin says:

Hello to all. My DIL had two very special chic. She worked at a care home and used to take them to work. The residents loved them. We called them Therapy Chickens.
Quick question, when you lift Roger up to look at the chics, is he by any chance licking his lips?

  46. Betty Shea says:

Happy Easter!! Love your new little chicks!!

  47. Cynthia in San Clemente says:

It is so good to hear from you Sue, and know that all is well with you and the boys, and now your addition of four fluffy chicks. Do you know the sex of the chickens and do you have to have at least one rooster to do the wild thing with a hen in order to get eggs? (Clearly, I know nothing about chicken husbandry!) Do you plan on naming them? Can’t wait to see pics of your new babies.
Lots of news with us. We bought 5 acres in Idaho and plan to move up there and build a home if we can sell our current home for a decent price. We sold our motorhome because it was just too big to go some of the places we wanted to go and very expensive to maintain and store. After we build the new house if we have money left over, we may buy something smaller. Jim has had some aggravating health issues but we think the underlying problems causing all his gastric distress has been resolved. I can say is fiber, fiber, fiber!!!!
Praying for everyone here in blogorino land.

    • Jolene/Iowa says:

Hi Cynthia, so exciting about the Idaho land purchase! Sue doesn’t need a rooster for the hens to lay. She only needs a rooster if she wants fertile eggs for the chickens to hatch on their own or to incubate them. Hens will lay eggs when they typically reach 20 to 24 weeks on average. It all depends on the breed. I really got into the chickens when I was doing it. I had my breeds figured out so I could sex at birth, based on color and markings. Sex links they were called. I knew what breed of rooster to have with a certain breed of hen to produce great layer chickens.

I raised chickens for a few years. Both layers and meat birds. One time due to a mix up in orders at the hatchery, where they doubled my meat bird order. I had about 25 layers and 50 meat birds to raise out. That was a job for sure when it came time to butcher them.

Glad your husband is doing better.

    • Denise - Richmond VA says:

      Hi, Cynthia!

Congratulations on your land purchase and your plans to relocate! I hope your home sells quickly! That is exciting news! 😊

  48. Colleen formerly from Tehachapi says:

Wonderful to see a new post! Glad you are well, exciting to hear the news of your new chicks. They should add some excitement to your life. Can’t wait to see some pictures of them and their new home.

  49. Barbara from Camano Island says:

Gosh! It’s good to hear from you! And read everyone’s comments. What a wonderful group of people. And I learn stuff.

I was struck by how many people have lost loved ones. I too lost a dear friend, to old age. No matter how, it is not easy. I am trying to get up the motivation to go on an adventure but I’m just not there yet. We have sun here in Washington state today and that always helps with the spirit!

My neighbor makes pets out of her chickens. Held them all the time when they were little. You will have many enjoyable experiences (and eggs) with them!

    Take care

good to hear from you. Are you able to keep Lady Piper where you live? I bet she could pull your ride if the battery went out unexpectedly, lol. After all she is a husky. Stay well.

          • Dawn in NC says:

            Hi Christian,

I believe, if I remember correctly, that Rusty had to rehome Piper. I think that she’s happy and in a family with kids. Rusty, is that right?

            • Rusty says:

Yes, Piper is in Kentucky behind the my last residence with the folks who have 3 children who love her and she has been visiting my family and goes back to her home. I guess she misses me and checks to see if I returned yet, I miss her too but it is better that way for her and I.

        • Rusty says:

I was back in the hospital for a short time, last night I was in the C(K) buying some treats when a customer behind me said that my left shoe was full of Blood, I looked and felt nothing but I freaked out, bought my treats and drove my Scooter across the street to the YRMC WEST ER, All the blood was coming from a very small area of my left leg shin that I might have hit it some how, they fixed me up and I was home in 15min. Seems the blood thinners are doing the job and I need to be more careful and watch out for nicks,,,,,,,,,

          • Deena in Phoenix says:

Rusty, thank goodness for the customer behind you…easy fix and now you really know to be more careful and watch for issues. Take Care…

    • Denise - Richmond VA says:

      Hi, Rusty!

Glad to hear that you are on the mend! And thankful that the customer behind you noticed that you were bleeding. Take good care of yourself! **hugs**

  51. Denise - Richmond VA says:

    Good morning, Sue!

So happy to see an update! Glad that your roses survived the winter. Congratulations on the expansion of your crew! I laughed when reading about the hens giving you the ole chicken-eye! 😊

Sending you, Reggie and Roger lots of love and hugs from me and Gracie pup! 💕🐾

  52. Dawn in NC says:

    Good Morning Everyone!

I hope that everyone had a good weekend. I’d love to hear how you spent it. Sunday was warm and sunny and in the 70s for me. I got to go to a small, outdoor baby shower for two dear women. It was so nice to emerge, for a little while out of the cocoon of this past year’s isolation. I also got to visit, outdoors, with a friend. It was a wonderful highlight of my weekend. Nature is putting on quite a show. The pear and cherry trees have shed their blossoms, but the azaleas and the dogwood trees are gorgeous, as well as the creeping phlox. I have baby azalea bushes in front of my house that are starting to bloom as well. Right now, due to temporary HOA rules, I can’t grow any container vegetables on my front porch. (We had a few rats caught over the winter, so they don’t want anything that will attract them.) However, I can grow herbs. My thyme survived the winter and is flourishing. I’ve added some basil to it as well. I want to go to a nursery to get some cilantro and chives to grow. I’m not certain that my plated rosemary survived the winter or not. My neighbor kept it cut very low, and I’m afraid that might have killed it.

OK, enough about me, I’d love to hear what the rest of you are up to on Sue’s front porch! (Sue, I’d love to see some pictures of your chickens when you are able!)

    • Denise - Richmond VA says:

      Hi, Dawn!

I hope your herb garden is doing well. Did you get a cold snap these last few days? It has gotten downright chilly at night. April weather is so unpredictable. My knockout roses were cut back hard last year and have not recovered. I picked up 4 replacement plants this weekend. They are loaded with buds. I like the double red variety. In addition to the red flowers the foliage has a pretty burgundy tint.

I hope you have a great week! 😊

  53. Denise - Richmond VA says:

Hello, Sue and my fellow blogorinos,

I hope you are well and your week is off to a good start. 😊

Love is in the air… Earlier tonight Gracie was sniffing to find the perfect potty spot when all of a sudden two bunnies came racing by her. They were so close that if Gracie turned her head she would have given them a nose kiss! The bunnies obviously had other things on their mind than “watch out for dog”! I expect we will see some little ones soon.
    🐰 + 🐰 = 🐰🐰🐰🐰

Sending love and hugs from me and Gracie pup. 😊🐾

  54. Suzicruzi says:

    G’morning Sue, and all,
Just a small update on our spring travels. We are temporarily hunkered down in a friend’s home, back where we started 3 years ago, where we can get a few things done. Our journey out of Arizona was an interesting one for sure. We recently were assaulted with our all-time low of 18° upon waking up near Diamond Lake in Southern Oregon. Prior to that, in Northern CA, we experienced complete and utter BLISS upon finding a BLM camping area, on a huge lake, and We. Were. The. Only. Ones. There!! It was too good to be true, so we stayed there another night. That spot I’m keeping in my back pocket. The days leading up to that magnificent find, were not that pleasant. Let me fill you in with a little backstory first.

After leaving the Northern parts of Arizona, and the Petrified Forest, Painted Desert, and the the famous “🎶 Standing on the corner of Winslow Arizona” we headed West again and found a park with electricity to beat the 95° heat. From there we checked weather and moved on to Las Vegas Bay, on Lake Mead. This was the first time we were in this old favorite CG in April. Normally we are there in November when other snowbirds are there on their way south. We rather enjoy it there, and always seem to enjoy other like minded souls, plus we can stock up in nearby Henderson and Boulder City. We were shocked to see the little non-generator section filled with what appeared to be a homeless camp. Older men sleeping in cars, tents, and tarps set up over their meager belongings. Old, limping dogs laying in the dirt under the bushes trying to find bits of shade for relief during the hot, and very windy days. It was quite an eyesore and a very depressing scene. After a few days we left to seek happier places where we could surround ourselves with the cool pines and mountain air, and be away from the spill-over of the homeless camps sprawling outside of bigger cities. We will be very curious to see how that camp will look this coming November, and if it is more like we remember it from past Southern migrations? If it remains like a refugee camp, we will cross it off our list as a good camp. We are seeing more and more of this happening now, and what used to be beautiful places to camp, are now littered with garbage and those who look to be homesteading on public lands. This has been a pretty sad reality as of late.

Up and away to the very high White Mountains in Nevada!! Oh what a Gorgeous! place we found high above Big Pine, California. More on the story to follow in my next comment. It’s time to get a move on, as Kitty is reminding me what time his meal is to be served. Loudly I might add!! 🙀

    Hugs to all,
    Suzi, Larry, and Kitty 😼🍴🍖🍤🍲

  55. Glenda from Arkansas says:

Suzi-I enjoy your updates. Happy Kitty is still ruling the roost in your Casita. I am at my first Casita Rally in Bandera Tx. Imagine over 100 Casitas with a few Oliver’s, Escapes, Scamps and Airstreams. Very nice people own Casitas. I love mine. Not certain I will ever attend another Rally-I am more a Organ Pipes campground kind of camper. I will be back to the desert.
    Glenda

    • Suzi says:

Hi Glenda! A rally, huh? Well at least you tried one once. We haven’t as I’m more of an introvert myself. I can be social but I don’t like feeling obligated to be 24/7. I hear you about Organ Pipe. Isn’t that just the very best place ever? Certainly some of the best Sunsets we have ever seen.

It is grey and overcast in the PNW where we currently are. Isn’t this why we left in the first place? HaHaHa! Hopefully we won’t have to stay long and we can get back on our way!

Good to hear from you Glenda. We’ll see you again next Winter, I bet. 😉. Oh, and yes, Mr Kitty is still ruling the roost! Cats are funny creatures! Dogs are so easy going, whereas cats can be quite the beasts! 😼. This one has so much determination and personality, it’s hard to believe he’s the same shelter cat we failed at fostering. 😉🤣

    • KB in AZ says:

The homeless camps have taken over some of the campgrounds. My own experience was with the RV park at the Jefferdon Count Fairground in Port Townsend. What a mess, they fo mot pay anything and with the eviction moratoriums because of Covid they can’t push them out. So now there are many drug users as well as mentsl health issues among that crowd. The staff at the Fairgrounds have been constantly threatened. The local police can mot respond to that many calls and they have to go with backup which is taking a toll on the towns police budget. The Fairgrounds has lost all revenue from the RV park as it is no longer a safe place for paying customers to stay.

      • Suzi says:

😞 It’s a sad and ugly situation at best. Each town or city has their “homeless” camps. I’ve noticed since we have been back in Vancouver USA, there is an abandoned parking lot where TriMet used to have a park and ride, that is now filled with sad looking motor homes and other camper units. I don’t claim to have any answers. You just hate to see how many people have been forced to take drastic steps to survive in this day and age.

  56. Carin Baker says:

Any pics coming if the pen? Did you name the ‘girls’??
    I love your blog!
    Have a wonderful summer!

  57. Dawn in NC says:

    Hi Everyone,

I miss hearing from everyone. Suzi, thanks so much for all of your updates. I love reading about your travels and adventures. Hi Glenda, I’d love to hear more about the Casita rally. Denise, do you see those baby rabbits yet? What are baby rabbits called? kits? I should know. MB, have you been able to take any more trips? Elizabeth, does your husband like his new chair? Cat lady, thanks so much for the above link! It’s only a few decades away, but I would love to retire (or have a “vacation”) tiny home. I hadn’t seen the video that you linked to, but I love Bryce, the host. In dealing with my parents, who are trying to age in place, I see a lot of the hazards that we all will face in the future. Cynthia, Christian, Deena, Weather, Barbara, and all other Blogorinos, I’d love to hear how you are doing and what you are up to.

As for me, I’m having a lot of changes. After working 10 years in the same position, I’m basically getting a promotion and changing departments! It’s amazing to me how God works and his timing! I also have a new foster cat. His name is Abel. He is deaf and diabetic. His mom has fallen on hard times, due to no fault of her own. (For any of you who pray, please keep her in your prayers.) We are both hoping that she can get back on her feet and take him back. He is such a sweet boy! Right now he’s gradually acclimating with my cats. The little bugger was no so nice last night. He woke me up scratching on the door of the room that he is temporarily confined to. So, I went into his room and spent the rest of the night there. This only consoled him for a little while, and then he was scratching at the door again. Finally, I just let him loose and went back to sleep! I don’t know why he wants out so much as he just goes downstairs and hides under the stairs. Oh well, I didn’t hear any cat fights, so I’m relieved that it turned out to be OK. Another change is that I’m continuing in my quest to be more healthy. Under a doctor’s supervision, so far I have lost 36 pounds!!!! It’s a great start!

OK, enough about me. Love to hear back from the rest of you!

    • Elizabeth says:

Nice to hear your update!! Pray the kitty mama gets well soon…no doubt it is harder to adjust when in the kitty’s condition too. Glad to hear you are getting a promotion and I hope that means a nicer working condition too!! Not to say it was not already…but it is nice to have things get better, no matter what. Yes, Hubby loves his chair…so far, so good. Thanks for asking. You know what they say? How as we age tis the golden years…the ones when you line the doctors pockets with gold? Yep, we sure are!! I have several dental appts to tend to my cavities and a crown or 2. Most work ever…but I have not gone in several years as I need a dentist with small hands!! FOUND ONE finally!! I hope he is skilled too…we shall see. Then I think I will try out a naturepathic doc and see what she can do for us. Hubby is going to be seeing the lady I have had too…so maybe some changes along the way. Have had massive issues with the pharmacy (Costco) too…so tomorrow will be going for a little “chat”…heh, honesty is the best policy right? I wish THEY thought so…and one med is SO expensive and so far I have not found it elsewhere at a better price…so will have to deal with them for that one anyway…but so far we have other choices…so we will see where that ends up. By the way, congratulations on your weight loss…THAT IS GREAT!! A super hard battle that I have not made progress in for awhile…so I do understand! Wishing you and yours all the best!!

      • Dawn in NC says:

        Hi Elizabeth,

Glad that your husband likes his chair. Sorry about the expensive dental visit. I can sympathize. I’ve had to have multiple root canals over the past several years. I finally joked with the endodontist that he should give me a bulk discount 😉 Although, I have an aunt who was terrified of the dentist and never went as a child. (As an older child, she would only get as far as the lobby, and then would turn around and leave. When her father would ask her if she went she would say “yes”! ) So her teeth were so bad, that at age 20 she insisted that they all be removed!!!! I can’t imagine dentures since the age of 20! I’m trying to hang onto mine as long as I can! The trouble with the Costco pharmacy sounds frustrating. I’ve had pretty good luck with them. I guess it depends on each store.

How are your daughter and grandkids? Still having problems with loud neighbors?

        • Elizabeth says:

Yea, I am with you, Dawn…no desire for dentures!! The daughter and grandkids here are fine. Just started back to regular school…well, I doubt regular, but you know…and have been home most of Covid…which actually worked out quite well. Kids have had more time for friends and LOVED that. They got new pets too: gerbils. In addition to the dog.
Heh, well, the loud neighbor upstairs has been gone maybe a half year or so now…or maybe 9 months, I forget. The new ones are loud some, but much better…so no complaints. But the crazy owner decided Covid time meant time to construct another apt bldg here…so THAT has been pure awful…but it only goes from 7 AM to after 5, so could be worse I suppose. WAY TOO NOISY FOR THE PRICE OF RENT however!! Well, we keep our eyes open…so many Californians and others moving up, it has made it very tight housing here. At least when it rains, which comes fairly often here, most of the construction quits…ha!!

  58. Barb in Florida says:

    Hi Dawn & All,
I’ve been just hanging out at home – like always. Working in the yard. Picking blueberries & tomatoes out of the garden the last couple weeks. Enjoying the last of the comfortable weather as it’s creeping up in temps and humidity. It’s still nice early & after about 5 or 6 pm. Still not a lot of rain for our rainy season yet.

Taking care of Leaky Lou takes two of us. She can’t hear well but knows my hand gesture to go pee or to come on, let’s go. She mostly does what she wants. We corral her at night. Had to get creative as baby gates don’t work and didn’t want to buy a crate that we would hate. It’s working. Cheddals is 14 1/2 which is old for a corgi. We sure do love her! Is is silly to ask for prayers for a dog?

Wishing love & hugs, prayers & peace to all & the world. Have a wonderful day!

I deleted the paragraph about the real stuff we should be talking about. Didn’t want to be negative but WTH – anybody else waiting for the SHF?

    • Elizabeth says:

Sure understand about dogs, Barb…we still miss our last incredible one!!

Yea, things for the future look dim…so glad we are old, frankly…we mostly look forward to our next life!! We have been watching a lot of youtube (Hubby hooked his computer to our TV so it is nicer to watch there). I think what has stuck us the most, is how awful the leadership really has been in our country for maybe most of our lives, and we have been an intact country till now…but if you consider the sins of our country…maybe GOD has had enough now? One wonders… I saw last night that a group of people who have lived in Israel for several decades, and are all good citizens but are being expelled…even there…what a crazy world we live in!!

      • Barb in Florida says:

Hi Elizabeth! The best thing I ever did was to hook up the tv to the computer & get rid of MSM. I do not regret it one bit.
Tioga George didn’t like Israel. He said he didn’t feel welcome there. Imagine a jew not comfortable in Israel. My guess, the expelled are Christians or from another country or religion. They don’t want outsiders. The US would NOT get away with that.

  59. Elizabeth says:

Barb, I suspect Tioga George was very tainted in his view because of how all his things were stolen from him…rightfully so!! I imagine, just like in this country, your impressions are largely based on WHERE you stay etc…but yes, I do wonder what is going on with those being expelled…especially if they did nothing wrong. We actually stayed our first visit with a wonderful woman who looked out for us…we are still in contact (we were strangers when we stayed there). She is still going to share her apt with visitors, now that covid is over. So I do know a great person to stay with in Jerusalem anyway. We also spent part of another visit in the south visiting friends we had met in Portland. I am sure all of that makes a difference. But in many ways, though a modern place, it is still kind of a third world country…and so that in itself can bring challenges. I am glad we visited. But not longing to be there right now. Maybe some day when things are as they should be…but then this country is not improving either, in my opinion. Hope is all we have presently. And prayers.

    • Barb in Florida says:

      Hi again, Elizabeth.
I had forgotten that you had made that journey. Nice that you still have contact with your host.

You’re probably right about George. I didn’t follow him then, only remember him referencing it when he talked about liking living in Mexico the best. Miss his adventures. Do you still read Weng’s blog? I didn’t contact her in time before she took it private again. Have a good weekend.

      • Elizabeth says:

Barb, It has been years now since I was in contact with Weng. I was so worried for her…the shenanigans of her EX worried me…but she went private and I had no way to contact her. I suppose it was best for her to do so…I had not met her in person. When you have a sociopath or psychopath in your life, you cannot be too careful is my opinion!!

Yes, I miss George too. He was an interesting fella. And things now, living as he did, would not be easy I think!! Surely he is now in a better place. I was sorry he had to leave Mexico for his safety. Not a nice world in many places…

  60. Suzicruzi says:

    Good morning Sue, and all.

I’m just lurking here to see if there’s any fun news of the chickens and their coop. Also reading and catching up with all of you. As of the moment I have nothing to add, as we are still stationary for awhile. In a short time, I will have some exciting news, but not just yet. Y’all will have to wait for it. Heh heh heh. 🤣 Remember when Sue used to do that to us? Now I’m going to be the little devil and keep you all in suspense! Ha!

    Have a great week everyone!!

    🌸 Suzi

  61. Glenda from Arkansas says:

Suzi-can I try guessing your exciting news? Your book of poems is being published? Or Larry has won a photo exhibition and you must fly with Kitty to NYC to accept many $$$. Or Kitty is starring in his own Disney movie and will allow you to live in luxury. Or you are moving on up to a larger RV. A Casita is just right for one but must be a little tight for a full timing couple.
Maybe I will see you next Feb in the desert.
    Glenda

    • Dawn in NC says:

Glenda, I LOVE your guesses!!! Can’t wait to hear your news Suzi! Nothing new with me either since I last reported. Sue, hope that you, Reggie, Roger and the chicks are well. Blogorinos, I’d love to hear from you.

  62. Denise - Richmond VA says:

Good evening Sue, and my fellow blogorinos!

First of all Congratulations Dawn on your promotion!! I hope you are enjoying welcome challenges in your new position!!! Whoo-Hoo!! 🎉🎉👏👏🥳🥳 And also, congratulations on your journey to better health!! You are doing great!! 😊 Abel and his mom are in my prayers. I hope that things work out for her so they can be reunited soon. You are a true blessing, fostering Abel. I miss hearing from everyone, too. I am always happy to see updates and news. 😊

Hi SuziCruzi! Thank you for all of your trip updates. It is a treat to armchair travel with you, Larry, and Mr Kitty. I hope that you all have been able to get things checked off your to-do list so you can get back on the road. I anxiously await your news! Yes, you are just like Sue to leave us with a cliff hanger! 😊

Hi Glenda! Enjoy the quiet beauty of the desert in your homey Casita. I hope you have many more adventures planned for the future. I was chuckling at your guesses of Suzi’s exciting news! Who knows, maybe Mr Kitty will reprise the role of Morris the Cat and immense riches may follow…but in dollars or cat food?! 😊

Hi Barb! Fresh tomatoes and blueberries picked from your garden – yum! Homegrown always seems to taste better. I hope that you have had a bit of rain and are doing ok with the high temps. We actually had Spring weather this year. It was so nice! Virginia usually skips Spring. After winter we usually slam into the 3 Hs…hot, humid, and hazy. We will be in the low 90’s the next few days. Of course you and your sweet Cheddals are in my prayers! Your last paragraph about WTH and waiting for SHF had me guessing for a while…wtf got that but I had to google search shf. I know what it meant but could not remember for the life of me! 😂

Hi Elizabeth! I hope your husband is still enjoying his new chair. Have you tried any new recipes lately? I hope your new dentist is a good fit! Fingers crossed! 😊

News in my neck of the woods: Yes Dawn…I have seen one baby rabbit in the flowerbed next to the shed! A small, dark brown sweet little fur ball. I had to google what baby bunnies are called – kittens! The other night mom and dad bunnykins were at it again…he would run towards her and she would jump straight up in the air. Too funny! I am on my 3rd nest of bluebirds. Several families (possibly related) have used the nesting box. 3 broods in 3 months. I also have an active nest of Carolina wrens; patiently waiting for the babies to hatch. The male is learning that myself and Gracie won’t cause him any harm. This afternoon Gracie and I took a break and sat on the back porch to watch the world go by for a bit. Actually, I sat on the porch…Missy stretched out on the patio like a little bear rug.

Hi Sue! I hope you and the boys are doing well and that your chickens are thriving. Have they laid eggs yet? Every time I open this post I smile when I see the little chicks with their little tutus. Lately, I imagine that they are wearing little straw hula skirts – maybe the hot weather is changing my perception! Sending you, Reggie, and Roger lots of love and hugs from me and Gracie pup! We miss you. 💕😊🐾

I hope everyone has a good weekend! Sending love, hugs, and prayers. Stop by to visit on Sue’s virtual front porch if you get a chance. You are in our thoughts and missed.

    • Dawn in NC says:

      Hi Denise,

Wonderful to hear your updates and comments! Thanks to you and the other Blogorinos here at the bottom of the comments continuing to make this seem like a nice conversation on Sue’s back porch! Denise, your back yard sounds magical. I envy you the wildlife. (So far, my HOA is still forbidding bird feeders. 🙁 I’m glad that you’ve had similar weather as NC and experienced a proper spring. Denise, I can’t remember if you are still working or have retired?

My new job is going well. I am working with some really nice people. My weight loss has slowed, but it’s still going in the right direction. I am getting excited as I go to the beach with my sisters (and their families) in a few weeks. As you all know, the beach is my happy place. I went to the NC Zoo yesterday with my best friend, who I hadn’t seen since the pandemic started. What I didn’t realize is that it is one of the largest zoos (land wise) in the country. We ended up walking about six miles all told. I did get to see one of the Red Wolf pups that were born recently. The grizzly bear was chilling under a waterfall the entire time I saw him. One of the African elephants was, likewise, cooling off in her pond.

I had a rather unfortunate surprise when I got back from the zoo yesterday, my a/c was struggling to cool my house. (I only turned it on for the first time yesterday.) I don’t keep my house that cool, at 78 degrees. However, the temp was at 80 and my a/c never stopped running. (I’m a little apprehensive about my next power bill). I’m really hoping that it just needs some freon and can get fixed this week. In a strange twist, the a/c in my building at work isn’t working either.

OK, that’s all the news that’s fit to print! Looking forward to reading everyone’s updates.

  63. Elizabeth says:

    Hi Denise,
Always good to hear your updates…glad you are enjoying life!! Things here mostly per normal. I was happy with the hygenist and that the dentist has VERY small hands!! YEA!! Now I hope his work will be good too…I start this next week. Will take at least 2 appts or maybe 3. Oh well…things wear out and must be fixed. The good news is that the gums and bones are excellent he said!! Wishing everyone as much pleasure as possible in the waning days of spring!! Still fairly cool here and somedays rainy and almost cold…per normal for the time of year. Still dabbling a bit with recipes…but nothing significant of late…

  64. Barb in Florida says:

Hi Denise, The berries and tomatoes are just about done here. The last blueberries were little so while I was resting on my glider bench I thought up a recipe for some muffins.
    Dry Wet
    1/2 C oat flour 1 ripe banana
    1/2 C rolled oats 1 t. lemon/zest (half a lemon)
    1 1/2 t. baking powder 2 t. honey
    1/4 t. salt 1 egg
    Blueberries (clean/dry) 2 T. plain yogurt/almond milk, etc.
Set aside 1 or 2 T. oil of choice I used coconut
Makes 12 mini muffins or 6 or 7 regular sized muffins. Preheat oven to 420 F.
Mix dry in a medium bowl then in a seperate bowl, mash the banana and wisk the wet stufff together. Mix wet into dry, with spoon or spatula, don’t overbeat. My cookie scoop works great to distribute batter. I sprinkled them with a little lemon sugar first. Bake 12 to 13 minutes. They turned out good. You could also use 1 cup flour instead of the oats/oat flour. For gluten-free you would need to add xanthan gum to the flour if it’s not in the mix.

We are headed into some hot weather starting Sunday. I’ve really been enjoying the last of the nice weather. It’s been windy for several days. Feels great as we don’t get much wind in the center of the state. The oak trees are really blowing. Enjoy your weekend and thanks for the prayers!

    • Barb in Florida says:

Well that didn’t type out well AT ALL! Sorry. The wet and dry were supposed to be in seperate columns. Oh well .. . . . . let me know if anyone wants me to fix it.

    • Dawn in NC says:

      Barb,

Your recipe sounds healthy and delicious! I’ve copied it for future use. Sorry to hear that your tomatoes are played out. I’ve discovered that Publix has started to carry heirloom tomatoes. They are the best tasting store tomatoes that I’ve had. Not quite as good a home grown, but a close second.

      • Barb in Florida says:

        Hi Dawn,
I’ll look at Publix for the heirlooms. I was in a garden club in Wisconsin that went on a field trip to Decorah, Iowa to Seed Savers. They have the most varied collection of tomato seeds I have ever seen. So many heirloom varieties of everything! Flowers, vegetables, etc. The catalog tells the history of where their seeds came from. Many traveled with immigrants to the US and were passed down the generations. They are online. Might be too late for most people to start some seeds, but maybe next season. It’s fun to look at the catalog, especially in winter. My tomatoes started as volunteers from the compost pile from store bought compari variety. This is the third year! They come back from the bad ones I throw down.

  65. Jolene/Iowa says:

    Hi Everyone,
Just checking in. I printed off that recipe, thanks Barb. Also if you haven’t seen it yet, some of you may enjoy The Chosen. You can download The Chosen app on your smart phone and cast it to your TV. Great show about the life of Christ. Season 1 and 5 episodes so far of season 2 are up.

We are fully vaccinated and thankful for that. So I feel a little more comfortable getting out now. We went and saw my mom for Mother’s Day. Just Rick and I. Tomorrow a graduation party for my grandson. A little leery about it because it will be a mix of vaccinated and unvaccinated people. So even though it is going to be colder than normal I hope to spend more time outside than inside.

I have been reading a lot more than years past. I am really loving Kristin Hannah books. I have just been reading a variety of books.

Other than that, nothing much is new. I hope you all are doing ok.

  66. weather says:

It’s been a nostalgic weekend, missing Sue, and this blog in years gone by. I miss AZ Jim calling Sue Missy.

The temperature here has been all over the place,50 yesterday, 89 last week. A mated pair of geese is beside the lake with wee goslings, so precious to see. The residents of this grove celebrated Memorial Day with a huge bring a dish picnic.

I hope everyone reading this is feeling loved and blessed.

    • Elizabeth says:

Glad to hear you are doing well, Weather! We are as per usual here. But at least we live in an apt that is warm enough and cool enough, so I am appreciating that!! Supposed to get quite hot here now for a bit…to be 80 today which virtually never happens this time of year here.

    • Dawn in NC says:

      Hi Weather,

It’s so nice to hear from you. It was a fitting weekend to be nostalgic. I hope that you had a nice celebration with your residents’ picnic. NC also had a big swing in the weather over the weekend. I’m happy to hear about the geese and goslings. My niece often walks around a lake near her house and brings appropriate food to feed them. They now recognize her.

On Memorial day, in honor of the fallen Navy Seal, Michael Murphy, I did a modified version of one of his favorite work outs with other members of my gym.

      Run 1 mile
      100 pull ups
      200 push ups
      300 air squats
      Run 1 mile

For the really gung ho, it should be done wearing a 20 pound vest! I completed about two thirds of the work out, with some modifications. I was exhausted for the rest of the day!

I’d love to hear what the rest of the blogorinos were up to on Memorial Day.

    • Suzi says:

Weather, I just saw what you wrote- can I mirror your feelings about AZ Jim calling Sue “Missy”? 😭😭😭

    • Cynthia in San Clemente says:

I’ve been feeling nostalgic too, Weather. Maybe it’s this June gloom weather we have on the West Coast. Maybe it’s a slow groaning out of this Covid season. Maybe it’s growing older and learning of more friends and family with serious ailments, pains, and some even passing. I try to be grateful for what I have (so much) and for being given another day here. But so often, I just want to go Home. I miss Bridget and Spike and Sue. I miss the blogorinos who have moved on. Well, enough of a pity party. There is laundry to be folded, gardenias to be fertilized, and chicken to put on the grill. Love to everyone who is still here.

  67. Clark Brady says:

Sure would like to see those hens now! My son and his family just bought a 22 acre farm down here in Texas and we (his mother and me) are moving in with them. He wants me to take care of the chickens and goats and I am all about that. I love chickens and goats. Looking forward to hearing a crowing rooster in the morning.

    • Elizabeth says:

WOW…what a great job, Clark and wife!! Wishing you all the best…smart son and family who know a great way to live too!!

  68. Suzicruzi says:

Howdy y’all, Sue and the boys.

I came back to post my surprise news, now that it’s in the past and I’m pretty sure I’m going to live. HaHaHa! I am sporting a brand new hip!! I am 12 days post-op today, and I went grocery shopping this morning. I’m already antsy to get going. It’s not really a long or remarkable story, other than I just turned 65, and this was my FIRST experience in a hospital, or having a surgery, ever! To me it felt like a huge, and very scary deal! But once I accepted the fact that it was needed or I’d never walk again- once I passed that hurdle and as I got closer to my procedure, I began to loose my fear and got super determined. On day 6 post op, I took baby steps alone in the kitchen. Day 7 was the last time I let Ms. Walker accompany me moving about. She is now respectfully going back to where I borrowed her from. 👏🏼👏🏼 Day 10 I took the two flights of stairs to PT in lieu of the elevator.

I am VERY happy with my recovery, and NO pain!! 😃😃😅 So that is my news, and I hope I didn’t disappoint anyone. Perhaps you thought I may have won the big
Lotto, or that we traded the Casita in on a villa in Greece. Nope, and nope. Our Casita is parked in front of the house we are staying in while I heal, and she beckons to me daily. Sometimes I go sit in her and dream of the open road and boondocks we will discover again. I didn’t know what to expect with a total joint replacement, but I didn’t expect I’d be out walking through a grocery store in less than 2 weeks without some kind of aid. Believe you me, I’ve been doing my PT religiously, icing every few hours, resting, and eating all the superfoods like a beast! Like I said, I have a ton of determination once I wrap my head around a situation. You could say I’m a slow starter 😆😅

City life is no longer for us. We both feel hemmed in. Getting back on the road is just something we can’t wait to do! I think even Kitty can’t wait! He’s resorted to chasing squirrels from one slider to the other when he’s not napping. It’s funny to watch. We have a couple videos of them nose to nose through the glass, with Mr Squirrel chattering and Kitty’s tail snapping back and forth as he’s pancaked on the floor in front of the glass. He keeps us entertained for hours!

Alright everyone, that’s it for now. Next post will be from the road. Cheers!!
    🌸Suzi, Larry, and Kitty 😼 🐿

    • Irene Austin says:

I think you did win the Lotto! Up and at em in 12 days! Well Done. Keep up the good work.

    • Dawn in NC says:

      Hi Suzi,

So glad you are recovering well and are back in action form!!! Hospitals and the idea of surgery can be very scary things. So, good for you for deciding to do it. I’m glad that you are having such a speedy recovery! Kitty sounds like he is keeping you and himself amused. Can’t wait to hear what your latest adventure will be.

  69. Logged in to read your blog today and find I’d missed several. Good to catch up and see all is well with the crew and you…..except for the darn A/C going out! We read & heard early on about the virus and started preparing; ordering masks, getting dry commodity in our pantry and stocking up on dog food as well. By second week in March, folks were hording toilet paper, water, and other goods. We were already stocked and N95 masks arrived along with face shields. By end of March there were no hands sanitizers or masks to be had…along with empty shelves at grocery stores, Walmart and other fabric stores were out of fabric and elastic. I think most of people we knew thought it was over kill in our preparation but in the end they too were scouring the stores for sanitizers, masks, toilet paper, and bottle water. Long story short, we survived without hardship and I made masks for my friends and family and offered to help with things they ran out of i.e. yeast, baking power and such.

In September 2020, after my great grandson was born in April 2020 and now almost six months old, we took a covid test and flew to Alaska to visit our baby boy. We stayed at my granddaughter’s home and hiked the beautiful country side of Alaska. Two months later, my youngest sister got sick and it became complicated due to her being diabetic. She died the day after Thanksgiving. After six months, I’m finally slowly recovering from grieving. My sister Sue was my traveling partner. We travel across the USA from California to Maine…a long, long, road trip. We travel to Alaska, Hawaii, to Canada and Mexico and many, many road trips up and down the USA, parts of Canada and Mexico. In the fall of 2019, she and I traveled highway 395 camping, hiking, exploring…such a beautiful drive. We saw the Big Boy train, went to a movie festival, a parade, hiked around Alabama Hills, Mono Lake, and even hiked among the bristle cone trees. That was our last road trip….I have many, many memories. Now, I hug and love on her blind dog Bailey (Bailey is now living with niece Autumn).

I’m a tad happier, planted tomatoes and green chilis. I harvested my first crop today and will eat a spinach salad with cut up leftover steak. Nieces and I have cleaned sister Sue’s house, and we plan to paint, do upgrades, and we’ll enjoy her rez home….where we can see for miles. Sister Ann lives within walking distance so that gives me comfort.

I wish you and the crew a beautiful summer of 2021. Yes, I pray for peace, health and happiness for all mankind and our furry friends/family.

    • Suzicruzi says:

Rita, I am so sorry to hear about your Sister Sue. That’s tough. I’m glad you are keeping busy with your garden, Bailey, and family members for support! Not to mention a new great grandson! I’m glad you were able to get up to AK to meet him. Better days ahead 🙏🏼 Take care,
      🌸 Suzi

    • Elizabeth says:

So sorry you lost your sister Rita…and so lovely you had such nice times together. I hope those memories will help to comfort you and may GOD be with you in the days and weeks ahead as you travel the path grief sends one on. So nice to have some new little ones to hug on too!! Such a blessing in such times!!

    • Dawn in NC says:

      Rita,

I am so sorry about your sister, Sue. Sisters are a precious gift from God. I’m so glad that you have many happy memories with her on the road doing so many different things together. I’m glad that you have family that you can reminisce with about her.

Congratulations on your great grandson. What a gift that you could finally go and meet him. A wonderful blessing, indeed, for your family.

  70. Isn’t it funny, a little sympathy and my eyes well up in tears. Sue was witty and people loved her and we all miss her. Since covid is pretty much in retreat, we’ll finally have a celebration of life in August 2021 so I’m looking forward to her celebration of life. thank you Suzicruzi for you kindness. Yes, lets look forward to better days and all stay safe.

  71. Kathy Garcia says:

This is so hard to write, Sue, but I thought you’d want to know. My beloved husband of 45 years today, passed away suddenly on May 24. Sitting in his recliner he just went to sleep and didn’t wake up. Immediate efforts were made to keep him with us, first by our son and me and shortly by a huge team of EMTs to no avail. He had been ill for much of this past year and due to his medication had very little energy.

Of course my world has turned upside down. We had many adventures together including meeting you on the road. And I know I’m greedy but I wanted more. Now I am working hard to get through each day. I must set new goals in life while not forgetting for a second that I had the best.

    • shelleym says:

So sorry about the passing of your husband.

    • Barb in Florida says:

Dear Kathy, My condolences on the passing of your husband. I’m no expert, just a fellow widow. It sure is not easy even knowing they are no longer in pain. It took me too long to grieve, I’m sure some would say, but you do what you need to. Please take care of yourself & remember that his love for you was his gift that you still keep. Cherish your sweet memories for they bring much comfort to your soul and will eventually bring a smile to your face. Much love & peace to you. Sending you a BIG hug! Barb

    • Denise - Richmond VA says:

I am so very sorry for your loss Kathy. May memories of your wonderful adventures together help you cope. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. Please take good care of yourself. Sending you **hugs**

    • Suzicruzi says:

Dear Kathy, terribly devastating news. I’m so sorry for your pain and sorrow right now. I can’t even imagine how you must feel. Sending prayers and
Light hearted thoughts your way today as you go through the healing process. Just know many of us are holding you up in love and prayer.
      💗Suzi

    • Kathy Garcia says:

Strange that I didn’t even write his name. My sweetheart was always “honey” to me; to both of us. His proper name: Gil Garcia. I love you Gil.

    • Deena in Phoenix says:

Dear Kathy, I am sorry for the loss of your husband Gil. There really aren’t any words but know that I send you my positive thoughts and prayers. Wishing you strength as you start on this new and different adventure. Hugs from a friend on Sue’s porch.

    • Elizabeth says:

So sorry to hear of your loss!! Glad you had wonderful times together and may those memories and GOD be of comfort to you in the days ahead!!

    • Cynthia in San Clemente says:

Kathy, I am so very sorry to hear about Gil passing. Forty-five years is a very long time of building a life and memories together. (We’re at 43, my husband is 8 years older than me and slowing down, and I dread the day…). Thank God for your memories and for your son, who it seems is nearby. May those things comfort you and give you peace as you navigate the days ahead.

    • weather says:

Gil had the best with you, too,Kathy. I am so sorry for this loss, I pray you be blessed with comfort by your wonderful memories of those years together.

Kathy, I am so sorry for your loss. I can’t even begin to imagine how difficult this time is for you. I echo what Barb and Denise said: please take care of yourself and your husband’s love is still his gift for you. You are in my prayers.

  73. THE one and only Suzicruzi says:

    Dear Sue,
I think of you often, and miss your stories. I reminisce of camps we’ve had , because of posts that you shared. I’m bored while I’m in the final stages of healing and waiting 4 more weeks for the “okay to get lost” again. The heat wave continues and we don’t know where to go other than high up. Between “here” and “there” it’s flat land and hot so we will have to deal with that- and busy metropolitan areas. Yuk! All things considered I was gifted a house to recover in; with my family and Casita, so no expenses. I had a very very good surgeon and his team to do my procedure, and the healing has been remarkable. Only 4 weeks and I’m feeling strong, capable, and walking at least a milie and a half per day, plus household chores, food shopping, my PT exercises, and just about everything I want to do. I know I’m still healing, and the bones need more time, but I’m feeling good and antsy. HaHaHa

I’m drinking my coffee outside and looking longingly at our Casita, wondering where our next adventure will be. I am very grateful that we will have another season on the road soon. I hope this finds you and those precious boys well, happy, and fulfilled in life!

    Love and hugs,
    🌸 Suzi

    • Dawn in NC says:

      Hi Suzi,

Thanks for the update! So glad that the surgery and healing process are going so well. I know it seems like a long time, but soon you’ll get your traveling wings again and be ready to go, go, go. Right now, I’m living vicariously through your travels. I am not in the season of life where I can travel myself. Hopefully one day I’ll get there. Do you have a place in mind to head to when you get the all clear to start traveling?

    • weather says:

May your recovery be thorough and future be bright.

    • Denise - Richmond VA says:

      Hi Suzicruzi!

Congratulations on your new hip! So glad to hear that your surgery went well and that your recovery is moving along nicely. No pain – that is great! You all will be hitting the road before you know it!! 😊

  74. Christian, Dad and Tommie in FL says:

hello blogerinos, I got an email about a comment so I took a moment to read and catch up on the enews. I’m sorry for those who lost loved ones and do understand those who dread losing older family in the future. I watch my Dad as he continues to live his best life at 90 while coping with his own limits and griefs. I’ve accepted that there are things that I can’t help him cope with, but it is still hard to see him go through it. I am sorry your husband Gil is no longer with you, Kathy. It may sound morbid to some, but I pray that Dad does not live beyond his independence. Niether he, nor those caring for him would do well because he is an indepen… ahem, stubborn Dutchman.

Congratulations for the new things you have all mentioned…new chicks, bunnies, gardens and babies. Those everyday joys are precious. This year I am continueing to learn about gardening in the sub-tropics. So far I think the local wildlife, iguanas?, have eaten more of the garden than we have, LOL. We have gotten a bumper crop from our very big Mango tree and have been sharing them with anyone that passes by. We put those that seem useable, despite any bruises, out by the sidewalk free to take. Most people seem surprised that we give them away, but what else would you do with hundreds of mango as large as softballs. I hate to see them all go to waste. I have frozen some in the past. This year I am trying canning. The adventure there is you won’t know if you did the job right for a few months, lol. I’ll keep you all posted. Stay well and smile as often as you can, for ” A merry heart doeth good like a medicine” Grace and Peace in the days to come.

    • Barb in Florida says:

for ” A merry heart doeth good like a medicine” ~ I love that, thanks!
Also laughing & smiling is good for the soul. Make sure you do it all day :o)

You’re not morbid at all. Glad to say both my parents and MIL passed away before this virus insanity. I can’t imagine how they would’ve coped with the medical industry. I’m sure they would’ve killed them off with their care.

Learning to garden down here has been a real challenge. It is so different. My problem is bad soil and trouble fertilizing. My abudance of tomatoes was not my doing that’s for sure. Have a good week & keep giving those mangoes away.

    • Dawn in NC says:

      Hi Christian,

It’s so nice to hear from you. Glad your garden seems to be doing well, even if it is mostly feeding the wildlife. Have you seen the story about a gardener who was having bites taken out of all his produce? He put up a wild life cam, and the results were hysterical. A ground hog was the culprit. Not only was he eating all the produce, he would stand right in front of the camera and stare at it while he was doing it. Eventually the gardener accepted this and the next year planted TWO gardens. One for himself and one for Chunk, the ground hog. Chunk brought and mate and later babies to eat in the garden as well.

I’m glad your dad is doing well. You are right, it is hard watching your parents struggle with the indignities of getting older. My dad recently has had to give up some things that brought him great joy, because physically, it’s getting harder and harder for him to do them.

I am fortunate in that I get to spend the Fourth with all my family. Love to hear how the rest of the Blogorinos are celebrating it.

  75. Barb in Florida says:

I’d like to wish you all a Happy Independence Day!
I pray that we all keep our independence, happily celebrate the 245th anniversary of the birth of our nation and enjoy the fireworks with family & friends. Any fun plans for the holiday? Love, peace & hugs to all!

    • Dawn in NC says:

Hi Barb! I’m celebrating the Fourth in the mountains with family. I hope you have a great time with your family and friends.

  76. Denise - Richmond VA says:

Hello Sue and everyone! Happy 4th of July! 🇺🇸 🎆 💥

I hope you and the boys are well and that there is not too much racket tonight to upset them. I remember how Reggie and Roger are frightened by gunfire. Folks one street over in front & back of our home have been setting off firecrackers & fireworks. Gracie pup is terrified by the noise. Over an hour later things have mostly quieted down and my pup is calm & tucked into bed. We have had a nice weekend and enjoyed a visit from one of my nephews. Gracie loved the extra attention. 😊

I hope you were able to get your A/C fixed before the sweltering temps arrived. How are the hens doing? Do you have tomatoes and peppers planted? Fresh eggs & veggies just need some Tillamook cheese to make a perfect omelet – of course cooked outside on your grill. 😋

Have a good evening Sue! Please take care of yourself – drink extra water and stay out of the heat as best you can. Sending you and the zoom-zoom brothers love and hugs from me and Gracie pup! Love you! 💕 🐾

  77. Christian, Dad and Tommie in FL says:

Hello all, I am glad the “BOOM”-ing part of the Fourth is over. Here in SoFlo any holiday imaginable, Christmas, New Years, the Fourth, your birthday, basically any day that ends in “y”, can be an excuse to set off fireworks. This year Tommie seemed more stressed than usual so Benadryl tucked in some peanut butter was the remedy in addition to cuddles. Thankfully it rained on Monday and put a damper on further black powder celebrating. I hope you all enjoyed a safe holiday and continue to stay well.

But I do wish Sue would check in. Not hearing from her in this continued virus threat is concerning.

  78. Laura Ours says:

Hello everyone, I just now found the space to click to see the comments here, I do not remember having to do this before as the comments used to just show up for me. I had written a comment today on the post previous to this one, that I had not seen anything from RVSue since this post of hers in April. Anyone know how she is doing now? I hope she is just really busy and enjoying life and that is why she has not been posting.

    Huggles to all!

  79. Karen LeMoine says:

Is Sue gone for good? If so I wish she’d tell us. I keep checking for a new post. I sure hope her and the dogs are well. Does anyone have any way to contact her?

    • Christian, Dad and Tommie in FL says:

I think the only way to get a message to Sue would be here, or somehow getting a message to her sister Pauline. I hope someone can reach out and tell us all is well. Peace everyone

  80. Kitt NW WA says:

I think this blog represents an era of Sue’s life that is now in the past. In her “new “ life she appears to have moved on without the burden of managing a blog. She has said she reads the comments and enjoys them, probably more as a blog reader not a blogger.
It’s been a grand ride over the past ten years and I’ve enjoyed every post
and comment, even though I have rarely commented. Now it’s time for me to move on as Sue has moved on. Thank you Sue for the wonderful memories!
    Enjoy!

  83. Jolene/Iowa says:

    Hi Sue and everyone!

It has been a weird summer in Iowa. Steaming hot temps already in June was too soon! I just keep busy with my route and serving my church. Just last week got a new to me van. It is nice knowing I have two vehicles since my job is a route job! Take care everyone!

  84. Denise - Richmond VA says:

    Hi Sue and everyone,

I just wanted to pop in to say hello. I hope that everyone is doing ok and managing to stay out of the heat as much as possible. My prayers go out to those impacted by the fires.

This morning a baby toad made his presence known, hopping onto the patio. He is about the size of a quarter. This happened just as Gracie pup was going out for a potty break. She saw him and he froze. I was able to convince her that there was nothing for her to see…she walked past him and did her thing. Meanwhile, tiny toad made a beeline for cover under the porch.

Our grass was cut this morning. When I saw the small brownish green spot drop onto the patio at first I thought it was a clump of grass clippings mixed with dirt that had been kicked up onto the nandina shrub where it stuck until the heat drew out the moisture and caused it to fall. What a nice surprise! Our little visitor made my day. 😊

I hope there was something that made you smile today! 😊

Stay safe and take good care of yourselves. **hugs**

  85. Hello blogoringos! A month has passed since I last made a comment and I read the comments posted since then…..some sad news and some good news. Isn’t that the way life is? Not to worry blogoringos about RVSue not making a comment….she’s probably chuckling at our concerns for her. Somewhere in her post I remember her saying she was having trouble with her computer and she didn’t plan on replacing it any time soon. She was dealing with no a/c also. All that takes money so we have to prioritize when making decisions what gets done first. I’m sure Sue is okay. She’ll pop up one day to surprise us with her camping posts.

Since my last comment in early June 2021, I’ve made another trip to Alaska to a belated celebration of my great grandson’s birthday. He’s walking now!! He’s so smart and learning and absorbing everything like a sponge. We had such fun going to the park, hiking (he loves to hike), and watching cartoons together, reading books and such. He has a small vocabulary…thank you, no no, more, mommie, da da. He’s adorable.

I’m feeling a lot better after the loss of my sister Sue and her memorial is coming up in August…next month. The memorial will be held at her rez home out in the country and social distancing should not be a problem. We’ve asked folks to wear masks. It’s been raining here in Phoenix and flooding in parts of northern Arizona. We’ll see what happens with weather in August since sister’s home is/was in remote area and roads tend to get washed out. Mostly family members RSVP.

I do miss Sue’s blog and her cute crew Roger and Reggie. We should all donate a few dollars for a new computer for her….she’s been very proactive in helping other folks. It’s a thought although I have no idea how to go about setting up a go fund me account. It’s a thought.

You all take care, stay safe and healthy.

    • Denise - Richmond VA says:

      Hi Rita!

It sounds like your trip to Alaska was wonderful – especially since you were able to spend time with your great-grandson. You made some precious memories!

I miss Sue’s updates, too. The best way for those who would like to help Sue is to use her Amazon link.

You stay safe and healthy, too! **hugs** 😊

    • Dawn in NC says:

      Hi Rita,

So glad you stopped by! I’m wishing I could see some pictures from your Alaska trip. So glad you were able to go and reconnect with your great grandson! It sounds like you had a wonderful time.

I’m glad you are feeling better after the loss of your sister. I can’t imagine how difficult that it was and still is for you. I hope that you have a comforting and healing memorial service for her.

  86. Dawn Conklin says:

    Hi Denise,

Thanks for stopping by on Sue’s front porch! Thank you for the delightful story about your little visitor!

  87. Suzicruzi says:

Hi from Suzi, Larry and Kitty. All is well. Hip replacement is old news! We are up in Blaine Washington escaping the smoke which seems to be consuming the West and mid West. Terrible 😟

Look up Birch Bay Washington. It’s beautiful up here! Cheers everyone, especially you Sue. xo. Suzi

    • Dawn in NC says:

Hi Suzi! Glad to hear the hip replacement is in your rear view mirror by now! Hope you are back to 100% and not having any pain with it. I did look up Birch Bay. It does look beautiful. The town even has a live web cam shot that looks amazing. Are you staying in camp grounds or boondocking? What are the temperatures like? NC is actually having a cool day today in the 70s! Almost unheard of in August. Is Kitty happy to be back on the road again?

Looking forward to hearing your traveling updates!

      • Suzi says:

Hi Dawn! Temperatures up on the Northern coast hovered in the high 70’s, and one day 88°. When we left a couple days ago, it was raining and 62°; what the coast of WA does best 🤣. So it was a nice reprieve from the smoke and heat of the rest of the West. We visited dear friends, so mission accomplished. Yes, my hip replacement is old news! It’s not even been 11
Weeks and I swear I feel 100%, or better actually. Thanks for checking in! We are seeking another cool(er) camp near Mt Rainier for another week before pressing East and then South. I think the high elevations of Colorado is next. 🤠
        Cheers, Suzi & crew 😉

    • Denise - Richmond VA says:

      Hi Suzi, Larry, and Kitty!

Glad that you had a speedy recovery! 😊

I took your advice and looked up Birch Bay Washington. What a gorgeous area! The Birch Bay State Park webcam shows its beauty despite the slight smoke haze.
Enjoy your stay! Have you all decided on a trip route yet?

Thank you for the update. I enjoy reading your travel reports! 😊

      • Suzi says:

Hi Denise, above is a brief reply to Dawn 👆🏼 that might interest you. Our future route to SD has been deferred due to fires and heavy smoke. In the immediate future we are making our way to the Mt Rainier forest in central WA. We might seek refuge in the cool forest for a week or two before pressing on. Our goal is to linger in WA long enough to (hopefully) see a change in the weather so we can head to SD. I’ll keep you posted! 😻 Nice of you to check in! Aloha, Suzi and fam xo

    Hi Sue and Blogorinos!

Just stopping by to say hi. Hot, hot week ahead in Iowa. Very humid as well. I am finding as I am getting older that I enjoy spring and fall the most. Nothing too hot or too cold.

I have a great book to read for my Christian friends. It is a book that Kathi Lee Gifford wrote about a tour they took in the Holy Land. It is called The Rock, the Road, and the Rabbi. Great book!

Have a great week everyone and stay safe!

    • Calvin in Columbus says:

      Hi, Jolene,

We’re looking at heat and humidity here in Ohio until Saturday. I learned some time ago that I like spring and fall for their relative moderation. I must say we had an unusually long and pleasant period of spring weather this year. It was a great relief from the years where spring was a couple of weeks between snow and smothering heat.

    • weather says:

The book sounds really good, Amazon sells it, too, bonus for us and for Sue.

      • Jolene/Iowa says:

I forgot to mention that there is also a video that goes with some of the chapters and right now at least you can go and watch the videos. Do a Google search for Biblegateway and the rock the road and the rabbi and hopefully you will find the page that can direct you to the free videos. They are releasing one a week through Aug. 20th. Since we can’t leave links on here I can’t link it for you. I will put it in the FB group for those in there if they read about this on here. The videos are really neat as well.

  90. Deena in Phoenix says:

Sure hope your rain barrels are working for you. Looks like more rain in your area of the state. We’ve had lots of rain this monsoon; my patio plants are loving it and so am I, don’t need to haul out the sprayer pump. Am sitting on the patio enjoying the cooler temps (mid 90’s) and watching the rain. Take Care Sue, Crew and blogorinos.

      Hi Deena!

We are getting some well-needed rain with wind from the edge of the latest hurricane. We lost power for only an hour. Gracie pup gets very anxious when we have dark skies, lightning, thunder, high winds, and power blips. She trembles uncontrollably like a little leaf. I hate that I cannot comfort her. The only thing that helps is to put her in her crate until the worst of the storm passes. A cold front will arrive tonight with cooler temps and reduced humidity – yay! They are calling for highs of high 70s – low 80s. 😊

What kind of plants do you have growing on your patio? Any tomatoes or peppers? Your plants must be lush from the monsoon rain. Isn’t it great to sit outside to watch the world go by in your yard?! Enjoy your view! 😊

Tonight I am struggling to put together a wood IKEA plant stand. My patience is just about spent for the night. I will try again tomorrow after I finish work.

It was wonderful to see that you stopped by for a visit on Sue’s virtual front porch! Have a good evening! 😊

Hi Denise, VA ESP must be working today, I just finished a long conversation with a life long friend living on her family’s mountain homestead near Roanoke. From weather.com watching, it looked like she was being drenched and I remember visiting in the ’70’s that the road up the mountain was dirt and became a river and the deep mud kept everyone stranded. According to her, they had just finished paving that road and driveways to all of the relatives homes this past summer and a 4 mile deep canal had been added to help lead the rain water into the river was added the summer before.
I am sorry for Gracie pup’s anxiety but glad you had a safe zone crate for her.
Current plants are all succulents, waiting for cooler temps to add hanging plants and a few small trees. I moved to a larger apartment (19 yr old niece moved in) in the same complex and the patio is larger, deeper and facing south vs longer, shorter and facing north. Looking forward to the growing season.
We are having a lets put together the sofa table and entryway shoe bench this weekend, have a few nephew’s coming to help. I have decided that it is easier asking for building help vs calling for assist getting me up off the floor…LOL. Good luck and better patience tomorrow.
I visit the porch several times a weekly. Also, I faithfully enter Amazon from RVSue’s portal. Still have a few things left to order to make life easier. Been looking at adding to our dinner and flatware,…I do not like running the dishwasher too much and with a young adult in the home it has been bringing back memories of my childhood and my eleven siblings (some good, some not so good, funny and down right hilarious!
Denise, thank you for visiting Sue’s Porch. I’ve enjoyed your conversations and Gracie pup’s adventures over the years.
Have a wonderful and safe September.

        Hi Denise,
I have been a longtime lurker, and miss Sue’s posts a lot!

A good friend of mine has a small dog, who is terrified of thunder and fireworks. She made him a “thunder coat” And it has helped an awful lot! You may want to give that a try! It fits very snuggly, and has some weight to it, giving a feeling of comfort and security. This has worked for seven years now.

  91. Cat Lady, Baton Rouge, La. says:

Happy Birthday to RVSUE’s sister Pauline…and many, many more. Make it a great one and please give our regards to our favorite blogger RVSue. Take care.

  92. Mike says:

Just finished reading Nomadland and super cool and surprised that RV Sue was interviewed for the book, and is referenced in it numerous times!

  93. Suzicruzi says:

    Hi,
I wouldn’t know where to begin as we’ve been through a lot since my last post. It’s been all good. After Birch Bay,WA. And thenLeavenworth, Mount Rainier NP, Riggins, ID & then outside of New Meadows, ID (near McCall), we hit the trail East. Not much camping but rather hard days on the road just driving. Our next destination is Steamboat Springs CO. It’s been my goal to visit the high country in CO and enjoy the brisk mountain air during Fall while the leaves change. The smoke during our travels this year has been really hard to take no matter where we go. At least we get to keep moving in hopes of finding cleaner air. I feel for those with no choice but to stay home and deal with it day after day. I guess I’ll leave you here, “wanting for more”.

Sue, I hope this finds you loving your life to the fullest! I miss many things about your blog; the photos of the Crew, photos of your camps and scenery, your stories, your amusing sense of storytelling in general, the camaraderie of the Blogerinos and just the general feeling of community here. I’ve not yet found another blog I can fully feel a sense of belonging in. That, and, I’ll always remain a loyal blogerino here until you tell us otherwise.

Cheers! Suzi, Larry & Kitty 🐾

    • Cynthia in San Clemente says:

I feel the same way. Between Covid and the craziness in our country right now, I so wish we had the normalacy and community of Sue’s blog again. I really miss Roger and Reggie. Praying that all is well with the three of them.

  94. Dawn King says:

Wasn’t that cool! Good book too, though I wish it didn’t just end so abruptly. I hope there’s another one to update us on how everyone is.

  95. MB from VA says:

    Hi Sue,
Just dropping by to say hello and that I hope that you and the boys (oh! and your “ladies”) are doing well. Hope you are getting lots of fresh eggs. My girls and I share some for breakfast each morning.

I also wanted to say that though I don’t drop by often, I think of you and always with a smile. Thank you so much for the creating this blog and for all the posts. They came at a time in my life when I was truly in need of them. They kept a dream alive when nothing else did. So, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I did get to go to AZ 2 years ago for a month. (I spent most of my time in the western third of the state…north and south.) I found boondocks and truck camped some….and even saw the Why Not. It made me smile so big to picture you and the BLT traveling that road and going into the store. Since it was off-season, I found a cheap motel and stayed there some and visited The Grand Canyon without all the crowds. It was not the long term trip I had planned but it was enough to help.

Right now, I am needed here. But my dream is still alive. One day…..

I hope you are well and enjoying doing just as you please with your little crew.

    Love,
MB, Bella and Molly (Both of whom traveled like real champs!)

  96. Toni says:

Is Sue not posting anymore. Do we know how she is doing?

    • Suzicruzi says:

Hi Tony, no, not exactly sure how Sue is doing, but keeping the faith she and her crew are doing just great! I’m sure her new chapter is a fulfilling one, and that she’s living it to the fullest! She knows we miss and love her. 😉 Ima keep hanging in here and lurking hoping to hear a bit of news myself.

For the rest of you, we made it back to Custer, SD. I’ve been waiting 3 long years to get back here and spend some quality time. 🙌🏼🦬🤠 Although it’s a cold 29° waking up, the blue-blue sky that is smoke free is the best blessing right now. I need to Post a follow up story to our stay in Steamboat Springs. Take good care, all of you Blogerinos. Suzi

  97. Dawn in NC says:

    Hi Everyone,

Just dropping in to say hello. Denise, MB and Suzi, it’s been great to hear your updates. I’ve had a bit of a home calamity recently which has resulted in me not having a working shower for a week, nor having any functional toilets on the same floor as my bedroom. Have to admit, I thought about Sue when I was washing my hair in the sink and taking bucket baths. 😉 Good news is that as of today my shower is fixed. The rest of my bathroom is getting a full demo after a toilet leak. Good news is I can use most of my insurance money (plus some of my own) to inexpensively update my bathroom that dates from the 70s! The wall paper alone does it in…yellow wreathed roses…plus a mustard yellow sink over white vanities highlighted with gold! I’ll keep you posted how it goes.

I do love hearing from everyone, even if I don’t drop by as often!

    • Elizabeth says:

So sorry to hear of your house problem, Dawn!! Mercy, tis hard isn’t it?? Have fun with the redo…it should look beautiful…so many choices these days. We are the same here…getting along as well as we can…trying to deal with whatever issues pop up. Hubby fell in August and has been recovering…fortunately nothing broken was found…but was in horrific pain for awhile and I am carting him between spots, even in the house, as needed. But he can still drive…his driving leg is ok!! YEA!!

    • Jolene/Iowa says:

Oh wow Dawn, that would have been tough. I am a camper so it may have been a little easier but it is still hard. I am excited for your remodel though. Have fun with that!

    • Cynthia in San Clemente says:

Dawn, sorry about your plumbing catastrophe. I don’t know, maybe you should hold onto the yellow wallpaper and sinks – decorating trends do come back around, you know!!

    • Denise - Richmond VA says:

      Hi Dawn!

I am so sorry to hear about your major plumbing issues. Isn’t it amazing how much we take indoor plumbing for granted?! By now I hope your plumbing problems have been fixed and that your bathroom refresh is finished. What color scheme did you choose? Warm or cool tones? I bet your new bathroom is now your favorite room in your home! 😊

Glad that you stopped by Sue’s front porch for a chat! 😊

      • Dawn in NC says:

        Hi Denise!
So nice to see that you have dropped in. I hope you and Gracie pup are doing well! How are things going for you in VA?

Unfortunately, my bathroom remains a reno mess, and the plumbers have failed to fix my shower for the third time. (Short story is that I am using a home warranty to cover this and am about to cancel.) The good news is that the contractor that I hired to reno the bathroom was able to diagnose my problem in 10 minutes!

Thanks for asking about my design. I am going with whites and light grays. My new vanity is a light gray with a faux white top with gray veining. My faucets and lights are brushed nickel. My linoleum is a small hexagon pattern looking like white marble with gray veining. I plan to paint the walls in perhaps a bluish gray color. I want a look that will be classic and not look outdated when the next trend hits. I have a second 70s vanity that will be removed, but not yet replaced. I was surprised at how much a 42 inch vanity costs. I don’t want to borrow money or put it on a card, so I’m saving up money to replace that one.

Hope you are able to enjoy this nice fall weather!

  98. Dawn in NC says:

Hi Elizabeth! Didn’t mean to leave you out of my greeting above! So glad that your husband didn’t break any bones. So happy for you that he can still drive. Hope everything else is well with you.

    • Elizabeth says:

No worries Dawn…I have been more quiet of late. I guess we are doing as well as we can for the shape we are in. I am getting my hubby to some different docs to see if maybe they can help him a bit more. We will still go to the “old” doc too…but different people might see some things differently too. And one is a naturepath who is a bad diabetic and whose hubby is also celiac…so I think her input MIGHT be helpful to us in those areas too…if you have an issue as a doc, maybe you have more ideas for patients…hope so at least. Hope your updating project is going along good…that can really give a person a nice uplift getting something made more personal and all…

  99. Barb in Florida says:

Hi Anyone! I’ve been going to comment for a while but am feeling like I’m knocking on Sue’s door, know she’s inside and just eventually give up waiting for a response and just leave a note for the next blogorino. Kinda weird.

I mostly wanted to let you know mama’s girl passed away. Mikki Lou (Cheddels) lived to be 14 years 10 months. AKC says Corgi’s live 10-14 years so I feel we did ok by her. She had chased a feral cat just 6 days before she left us. A couple days later she suddenly stopped eating anything and three days later she was gone. That was July 22nd. We still miss her every day! I would like to let you know if you want to have someone come to your home to have them euthanize your pet, you need to be their client ahead of when you need them, as we were told two to three weeks. We needed them within a day or two. Needless to say how it went 🙁

So anyway, Hi to those who commented since my last one. Thanks for the updates.
    Missing you all! Love, Barb

    • Jolene/Iowa says:

      Hi Barb,
I am so very sorry for your loss. Losing our pets is always hard. Hugs and yes, some of us are still around here waiting for Sue. I am not on as much as I used to be either. Take care.

    • Elizabeth says:

Ah, so sorry Barb…loosing a dear doggie is so hard indeed as us doggie lovers know!! Sounds like you got her as far as possible. Glad she did not suffer too long. It is very hard to watch any creature struggle!! Sending you hugs,
      Elizabeth

    • Cynthia in San Clemente says:

So sorry you had to say good-bye to your sweet pup, Barb. It sounds like she had a good and long life with you, even up to the very end. We do miss them so much, don’t we? Because they become part of the routine of our lives, I think. I hope you can find time to love another.

    • Rhodium in SW Va says:

Sorry that you had to lose your dear friend. Dog’s lives are so short I think they put a whole week’s worth of love in every day they spend with us.
I hope everyone is adapting to the shorter days. Here in SW Va it was a pretty dry summer. The farmer who cuts our pasture for his hay got about 5o bales in the spring but only six at the start of fall. It was a bumper year for apples, however. I am surprised the branches did not break, the trees were so packed. It was also a bumper year for grasshoppers. This suits our dog Sophie fine. She gets so busy eating them she forgets why she is being taken for a walk. We did not have much of a garden this summer, but my wife planted fall vegetables, and it has been great. So far we have enjoyed green and wax beans, kale, collards, white and purple turnips and bok choi. We planted spinach late and it is starting to come in, along with snow peas. We tried broccoli, cauliflower and brussels sprouts, too, but were probably too late in getting them in. I never realized roasted turnips were so sweet.

    • Barb in Florida says:

Thanks for the hugs and kind words, everyone.

    • Dawn in NC says:

      Barb,
I’m so sorry for the loss of your Cheddels. You gave her the best life she could have possibly had.

      • Barb in Florida says:

        Thanks, Dawn.
Every hair we find is like a little hello, I love you, too.
It is so true that we don’t really realize how devoted our time is to them until they are gone. Especially this last year. So much love packed into a short life. She was such a good, smart dog.

    • Denise - Richmond VA says:

      Hi Barb!

I am so sorry that you lost your precious Cheddels. It sounds like she had a very full, happy life. You all have been in my prayers. I know you miss hear dearly – may you find comfort in happy memories. **hugs**

Thank you for letting us know about the vet policy about you needing to be a current client. Not what one needs to hear when you need help.

I am glad that you stopped by Sue’s front porch to give us an update. I miss Sue and all of the blogorinos who used to check in regularly. It is a happy surprise when I see a new note. 😊

      • Barb in Florida says:

Thanks for the hugs & prayers, Denise. We miss her so much!
Sorry for the late response. My computer power supply died. Thankfully it’s fixed now. We find out just how much we rely on the stupid things when they’re down & how addicted we become. Thanks again.

    • Sam in the Ozarks says:

I’m so sorry about Cheddels. My daughter’s dog, Moose that lived with us died three months ago. We miss her so much. Then my 17 yr old poodle, Sparky was losing weight so I took him to the vet. He has cataracts, an acl on his back leg and the vet said he has a bad liver so I just took him home and started feeding him dog food smoothies with a dropper and milk thistle for the liver. It’s been two months and he’s doing fine and has no pain. He’s the fastest dog in the yard. Sorry to talk so much but I don’t have anyone to talk to. God bless you, Sam

    Hi Reggie, Roger & Sue!
Well, it’s been quite awhile and just wanted to say Hello! I think about you fairly often Sue, and wanted you to know you and your words of humor, wit, interest and wisdom are missed. You, Dear Lady Sue, are a wordsmith storyteller.

Huge changes in my life too. We moved back to Florida from Silver City NM. The house we were going to buy fell through because of a zoning issue. After three and a half years of full time travel and RVing Dianne was feeling homesick. So after a fairly grueling 1,958 miles back across the country we found our new home! Lake Placid Fl. A Beautiful, picturesque little town in a rural area of warm south Florida. It is very nice here and we are well and happy. We have a spectacular Lake view too!

Hoping you are Well and Happy! Give Reggie & Roger a back scratch for me.

    Be well & Stay Happy!
