The Bayfield Bunch comes for a visit!

Some people are simply a pleasure to be around.

Al and Kelly are that kind of people.  We exchanged emails yesterday and I invited them to come over to our campsite this morning.  They drive up with a toot of the horn followed by hugs all around.  Pheebs, Bridget, and Spike share a group-kiss.

What started as a cool morning is sunny and warm at 11 o’clock.  The six of us settle in camp chairs or on the outdoor rug.

1-P1030086 The conversation flows so smoothly that I’m unaware of the passage of time until I notice the shade has crept across the rug!

1-P1030085

Al is always a photographer.

Honestly, I dread going over to Travel with the Bayfield Bunch to see the photos.

1-P1030082 No filters, no touch-ups, just harsh sunlight . . . oh dear.

1-P1030084

Al and I hand over our cameras to Kelly so she can take a picture of us together.

1-P1030090

What’s with that hair?  Desert Woman Does Woodstock?  What is this — 1968?  You can’t blame THAT on harsh lighting.  Get a haircut, RVSue!

1-P1030088

Before they leave, Al and Kelly invite us over to their place.  “We’ll be leaving in about two-and-a-half weeks,” Al reminds me.

1-P1030087

Pheebs beams a sparkling smile as if to say, “Yeah!  Come on over to our place!  You’ll love it!”

1-P1030098
“Thanks for coming over,” I tell them as we’re saying goodbye.  “I enjoyed our visit.”

And with a “Same here!” and a toot of the horn, off they go!

Continues to amaze me the network created through the blogs. It’s created an enormous group of friends, even if many haven’t met…yet. I’ll have to go to Al and Kelly’s blog and learn about them now.

  2. Nan says:

At least you remembered to photograph the occasion! Me? I was so in awe of Al’s camera that I plum forgot. I am glad that you all were able to get together….what fun!

  3. Love the pictures and you look great!!!!

  4. Dawn says:

Nice to have visitors and good conversation. I think the long hair looks just fine.

  5. Elizabeth says:

  6. Elizabeth says:

Nice people, the Bayfields. Can just tell by reading their blog which I do now and then.
Are you near their house in the desert? Wow, you should stop by there. I was reading their blog daily when they found that place. If I remember they got a good deal. Well, I guess that is par for the course out in the desert and kinda remote.
I think your hair looks great Sue !

  9. geogypsy2u says:

Everybody looks so happy and tan under the AZ skies. Hope to catch up with you all before you move on.

  10. Tammy says:

Your hair looked very nice, no 60’s going on. Looks like all the dogs got a long so well. Pheebs just kills me she has such an expressionistic face. It is just great to know someday we can look forward to meeting our blogging friends like I read about in many of fellow bloggers posts.

Pheebs was in their jeep when I took that photo. I was talking with Kelly through the window and said, “Oh, I never got a good picture of Pheebs!” Instantly Pheebs’ face appears from the back seat with a big smile… Kelly bent down so I could get that shot.

    Hi Sue,
You didn’t mention the horses? When I looked at Al’s blog it appeared there were horses in the background. You have a beautiful spot there. About a foot of snow fell here last night and it’s still snowing hard. My pickup will be using it’s 4 wheel drive when I go to town for an appointment this morning. Thank you for sharing your experiences. I completely enjoy reading about you, Bridget and Spike.

    Cheers,
    Barrie

    • rvsueandcrew says:

Hi Barrie . . . Those are cows. Believe me, if there were horses that close by I’d have their photos all over this entry!

A foot of snow? Gosh, will it never end! Here I am getting a tan and wearing shorts… That ain’t right!

Well, with all those great comments about your hair I think between your camera & mine we must have done something right today. I do understand the difficulties of keeping longer hair clean while boondocking. I’ve been tempted many times to just get a buzz cut & be done with it. Sitting & chatting with you yesterday under a beautiful Arizona sun drenched sky & the Weaver Mountains in the background will always remain a special memory for me……AL:)).

    • rvsueandcrew says:

After looking at your blog I wish I could HIDE behind the Weaver Mountains. Apparently hair is the least of my problems! Haha!

These days are beautiful, aren’t they… Add the company of two of my favorite people and it’s perfect!

  13. Marcia GB says:

Great to catch up with old friends/bloggers on the road. And rest assured, Sue, you look happy and healthy. What could be better?

  14. DnD says:

RV Sue – don’t touch a hair on your head [lol]! You look ‘mahvelous, darling’ (my poot attempt at Billy Crystal). You and the Bayfields just seem so connected in spirit and RV’ing. Thanks to the both of you for gorgeous photos of your visit.

  15. Chuck says:

Great to see that ya’ll got together! The Bayfield Bunchs time frame here just blew by and they must return to Canada and we wanted to get together with them , unless they’re coming up I-25! Ya’ll look like you had a great visit!

  16. Teri in SoCal says:

Sue, I love the photos! And as I was looking it dawned on me that you look younger. Maybe living this life that you love is the key.

    • rvsueandcrew says:

Thanks, Teri. I don’t know about looking younger. I do know I’m healthier. That’s one of the many subjects we talked about…. how living in the desert is very healthful. It wiped out my recurring bronchitis.

  17. earthdancerimages says:

Sue, Chuck and I both love your new, longer hair style! We think it looks great! The diet you follow is obviously working for you! You look amazing girl! The great outdoors and gypsy lifestyle definitely agrees with you! Al and Kelly and the Pheebs….. wonderful folks! You are in a great neighborhood now! So sorry we missed them this year!

  18. Rattlesnake Joe says:

I like Al’s hat. Now thar’s a hat fit for the deserted desert of Arizony…yep.

  19. AZ Jim says:

An idea from Amazon that might be nice for the campsite. Garden Creations JB5629 Solar-Powered LED Accent Light, Set of 8 for $16. Easy to stick in the ground around your “patio” area and NO Maintenance. FUN!! I’ve got ’em on the walk to my front door here at home.

    • rvsueandcrew says:

Thanks a lot, Jim. That’s a good idea for around a patio or along a walk at home. I hesitate encouraging people to put out lights that will be on all night when they are camped away from civilization. That’s why I like motion-sensored lights. I wonder if they make solar, motion-sensored lights… hmmm …

  20. cinandjules (NY) says:

You guys were having such a good time…………next thing you know it’s supper time! Great photos.
The smile on your face tells the entire story. Woodstock comment made me laugh…are those Birkenstocks on your feet? 🙂 Are you sure you are sixty something and not forty something? You look great!

Barrie must live somewhere close………..as we also got a foot of snow. First day of spring and you’d never know it. That damn groundhog lied!

    Enjoy your day!

    • rvsueandcrew says:

      Hi Cindy and Jules!

      Thanks for the compliment . . .

My sandals are like family I’ve had them so long. I bought them when I was still in Georgia, long before I retired. They started out with straps behind my heels. After a year or two, a strap broke so I cut them both off to make slip-ons. Years passed. The top layer of insoles is gone. I’ve worn them in various weather and road conditions. I even had them on when I jumped out of my inflatable kayak into the Madison River last summer! The colors have just about faded away and here I am, still wearing them. I don’t feel them when they’re on. I think I paid about $19 for them.

For heaven’s sake, you New York people have paid your dues this winter! It’s time for SPRING!

  21. Rod says:

I didn’t see any awful pictures on Al’s blog…. Perhaps your worry is not warranted…. Rod

  22. cozygirl says:

What a breath of fresh air seeing you sweet souls all in one place. Sue, love that wonderful smile, golden locks, and sweet red pedicure! Keep the hair…that’s my goal as we travel so I can throw in a braid or two. The view with cows grazing…perfect! We are so close to take off….can’t get here soon enough!

  23. Kelly says:

Sue, I liked all the pictures ! I wish he had taken one of you & your fur kids ! (Family picture )
adding my + + to not get too short a hair cut …
I thought you looked awesomesauce !!!!!! Kelly

  24. Kay says:

    RV Sue, Spike and Bridget;

I have lurked around and finally say down and read from the beginning to the end in my little bit of spare time. The Canine Corner is a HOOT! Looking at all of the beautiful pictures, include the crew, I noticed how Princess Bridget is so much whiter than Spike! I think you have the BEST two dogs, their faces really pronounce their personalities.

The story of Rusty was very special. I sure hope you’all meet up again soon. God Bless you and the readers who helped bring Timber home. Very touching!

I think the crew may be ready for their own blog! They could sell advertising space on their blog to help pay for their adventures, food and spa treatments for RvSue!!!!! Just a thought.

Happy and delighted to see the three of you are living the dreams.

    • rvsueandcrew says:

      Hello, Kay!

I’m so glad you’ve come out of lurkdom. Thank you for reading my blog from the beginning and for your kind words.

Bridget is whiter than Spike. In the past year Spike’s fur has lost its youthful sheen and brightness. He’s getting up in years. Soaking in every body of water from puddles, mudholes, streams, rivers, lakes etc. certainly doesn’t help. Bridget is a tidy, clean girl. Spike is . . . well, he’s Spike. Dirt is his friend.

I hope to visit Rusty and Timber this Spring as I haven’t seen them in a year.

Great to hear from you! And, yes, I need to get these lazy canines busy working on their Corner . . .

      • Kay says:

Sometimes, my brain goes faster than my fingers and I leave out a word or words… my thought was Spike is not as white as Bridget because he seems to be always getting into… well, you know – having you run down the lanes in PJ’s… LOL. Spike and Bridget could surely write an awesome book for children and sell it, that way they could treat you to a day at the spa for all your PJ running!!! I love your blog, and your canine’s, maybe we’ll meet up this next year as I have a Sir Prince Rowdie (schnauzer) who thinks he’s a well… let’s just say he steals… things like socks and drags them to his yard and lines them up in a row, then stands and jumps while barking to have humans look at his nice line… he steals potatoe’s and eats them, and his favorite…. ICE CUBES…

  25. Hi Sue,
I have a request to make. I am making this request because you have been a huge inspiration to me in so many ways and because I respect you so much and would value your opinion, if you have the time and willingness. I just finished most of my website for my new practice as an integrative life, health and wellness coach ( I retired from my practice as a clinical psychologist a year ago and just completed my year of training in integrative health coaching and want to jump start my new, holistic approach to practice with a good website (and also, hopefully, very soon, a blog on holistic health and wellness, centered around my dogs who are the center of my life and who have taught me so many of the most important lessons in life). Would you be willing to look at the website, and let me know what you honestly think.I have one more page to complete ( where I introduce “my Staff” and what their area of “expertise” is, my staff being my five dogs, each of whom has their own perspective on life, food, health and wellness!!). I hope this request is not an imposition on you – if it is, I understand and will be fine with you declining. But if you accept my request, I will be thrilled and will look very forward to your feedback. Thanks for everything you do and for considering this request. The website is presently:

    Sincerely,

    Carol Landesman

    • rvsueandcrew says:

      Hello, Carol,

I took a quick look at your website in order to gauge the “first impression” it gives. Let me have some time to evaluate it more closely and I’ll see if there’s anything I think needs improvement, for whatever that’s worth. I’m flattered that you asked me!

  26. wheelingit says:

Very cool! We got to meet Bayfield Bunch in Anza Borrego last year and their blog has been a huge inspiration in our travels.
And don’t worry about the hair…it looks perfect!!
    Nina
