Saturday, September 1
About five o’clock Pacific time today Rusty returns my call. He’s on his way to get Timber! He left the Flagstaff area at noon yesterday, Arizona time, in his truck with camper body. As I write this he’s camped behind a gas station somewhere along the interstate between Las Vegas, New Mexico and Boulder, Colorado, where Timber is.
His truck has been repaired.
“It runs so good now, it wants to go seventy, so I have to pull in the reins,” he blusters over the phone. “The guy who did the work on the rear end, took another look at it and fixed it. The differential they put in was a Mustang differential and they had to shim it up.” Rusty says the newspaper people came by and took pictures. “I must be famous. People honk at me on the road!”
Once the truck was running again, Rusty decided “I had to go get my dog back.”
Rusty figures he’ll get to Timber some time tomorrow afternoon (Sunday). He talked with Jay who told him donated money is waiting for him. This is a relief for Rusty who cashed his Social Security check on Friday, the 31st, which enabled him to get this far. “I got some groceries and gas. I’ll use that money to get back to Arizona.”
“Rusty, be sure to let me know when you and Timber are back together again,” I ask before saying goodbye.
“I will, Sue!”

P.S. I’ll keep you informed. (Right now I’m running out of power for my laptop in shady Oregon.) It looks like tomorrow, September 2nd, the happy reunion of Rusty and Timber will take place!
Great, tears again………..you are a good person and you will be rewarded for all the good you do.
Dry your eyes, Pat…. Save those tears for the reunion!
YAY!
YAY!
gee I was waiting!!!! So happy for him!!!!
Rusty deserves the happiness that Timber brings him.
YAY!!! :-))))))) So happy to hear the news! Happy Labor Day everybody!!!
I’d like to see the newspaper artical, what newspaper was it in ????
The reporter told me it won’t appear in the newspaper until the reunion takes place. The paper feels the reunion should be the focal point of the story. I hope to post a link on my blog when the story is published. The reporter is with the Arizona Republic newspaper.
Thanks so much Sue, that should be a great story!
Great news Sue. I never thought about the fact that cloudy days in Oregon might limit boondocking. Oh dear for you and the crew.
All I had to do was drive around a little bit today, preferably in the sunshine, and both my solar panel and the alternator would have juiced up my batteries. I got engrossed in a book, fell asleep, and so on…. never did get out to charge them up. Of course, that’s the time I hear from Rusty! I’ll get out in the sun with the PTV in the morning! Right now I’m sitting in the PTV with the engine running and the laptop’s inverter stuck in the dash. I do things the hard way.
Thank you, Sue.
You’re welcome, Chuck.
Oh, I am so thrilled to hear about the reunion of Rusty & Timber!!! In fact, there were tears in my eyes as my daughter was reading this to me!! God certainly answers prayers and Sue, you were instrumental in making this happen! Thank you so much for caring about the people you meet! Sue, you are a goodwill ambassador traveling the country in your RV! May God Bless You!! –Robin & Family
Assuming all goes well and Timber returns to AZ with Rusty, it’ll be a treat to be with them again the next time I pass through AZ. Rusty usually camps near Bullhead City and Lake Havasu in the winter and then moves to the Williams and Flagstaff area in the summer. Surely we will meet again… Thanks you for your sweet words, Robin.
You’re an angel Sue – and don’t even try to say otherwise. If it weren’t for you…..!! <3 We'll all get warm fuzzy feelings tomorrow thinking of Rusty and Timber being reunited. I hope someone takes pics and if you find out if they did, I know you'll tell us.
hugs,
Lacy
I’m pretty sure there will be a photo in the Arizona Republic accompanying the story of the reunion.
That’s why I love following this blog! It makes my day brighter!
Except on days when I tell you about a lost dog! Ha!
Timber is sorry.

Mark, Yer killin’ me!
Do you know how I could send a donation to Rusty?
I’d really like to give him a donation towards the trailer
he’s saving for, since this will probably set him back? He’s such
a good person and it would give me joy to help him.
Thank you for your blog,
Sue, I have the same thoughts as Dedra. I know it’s asking a lot of you to inquire, but I would like to donate also.
You are an angel.
Marcia… See my reply to Dedra re donations. No, it’s not asking a lot. I’d love to see Rusty benefit from all the heartache he’s been through.
Dedra…I set a policy for my blog that it would not be involved with donations. I would, however, consider posting Rusty’s post office box address so generous and kind people like yourself can send checks made out to Rusty. However, I don’t believe Rusty has a P.O. box. Once he’s back in Arizona and plans to be in one area for several weeks, maybe he could get a post office box temporarily for this purpose. I’ll talk to him about it.
What a great story, and I can hardly wait for the reunion to happen. I hope Rusty’s truck makes it without any more problems.
I hope his truck is running well, too, this morning as he travels the interstate. He told me on the phone yesterday that it’s running great!
I’m delighted that Rusty and Timber will be reunited very very soon. Bless you for being part of the whole saga, and for keeping us updated.
It’s been a joy for me to be a part of the story of Rusty getting his beloved Timber back.
Oh great news! I can’t wait to hear when he actually has him back in his arms again — wow, what a story! How stressful this must have been for Rusty too. Timber on the other hand got a big fat doggie vacation out of this ordeal!
Timber did his own share of suffering. He went without food for days and lost a lot of weight. And he had to find water bottles in order to survive the heat of Utah in July. He’s an amazing dog… a master at survival like Rusty is! Once Timber was found, then he was on vacation!
Wonderful!!
All I can say is WOO HOO!!! So happy for Rusty and Timber. : )
Hopefully you can meet up with Rusty in the Williams/Ashfork/Flagstaff area before winter. You really need to see the area now with all the rain we have had…totally different place. Thanks Sue for being in part the reason Rusty will be on cloud 9 here shortly!! : )
It’s probably more likely that I’ll see Rusty this winter when he camps in western AZ.
I am so tickled to hear the reunion is imminent. I’m praying Rusty doesn’t take off again.Dogs have a tendency to run off. Best to keep them on a leash.
I think Timber will be getting microchipped.
What a “good news” blog today!
How handy to have your solar panels on the PTV so you can unhook and place it in the sun. Or, as you said, drive around to find the sun. Had not thought of that advantage over having them on the trailer.
One of the reaasons it’s the PTV!!!!! When I saw the frame going on, I thought, why hasn’t some one thought of this before?????
Yeah! For the reunion of Timber and Rusty. Over been really looking forward to hearing about it. Keep us posted.
Rusty should be here this afternoon. The reporter in Arizona wanted to have the channel 9 news crew here to take photos, but they are all busy covering President Obama who is also in Boulder today.
I’ll send the photos to Sue to post!
Oh darn! I’d rather see Rusty and Timber, than the President! Thanks for the update Daisy. It’s nice of you to offer photos … I was going to ask, now I’m glad I don’t have to!
Thank you soo much Daisy for being a God send for Rusty and Timber. Please Thank your father (Jay) for being so kind as to take care of Timber and having the biggest heart for returning Timber to Rusty. We around here will always keep yall in our hearts n prayers. Blessings to you!
So happy for Rusty and Timber! Great work Sue! Good Karma! Now you relax and play in the shade. How is Bridget’s leg?
Bridget is still holding her leg up and hopping around on the other three. There is progress though. She lets me manipulate the leg. All bones and joints seem fine. It’s going to take time. Now I’m wondering if it’s becoming habit and she’s afraid to put weight on it.
Glad to hear Bridget is doing better and it appears she didn’t suffer a serious injury.
Just got off the phone with Daisy. She is enroute to her father’s house with Timber/WIlly to meet up with Rusty. So the reunion should be happening shortly……….whooooeeee!
Thanks again to Sue for posting the original blog, to Jay for taking Timber/Willy home and to Daisy for providing Timber with love.
We couldn’t be more thrilled! Have a great day!
I’m anxious to see the photos. I hope Daisy sends them right away! I’ll show them here as soon as I can.
I have to tell you again how much I’m enjoying your blog. This Timber story had me sobbing, but the spirit of good people fills my heart with happy. By the way, that road out of Sisters I guess is absolutely hated by the locals. My FB friends up there were just cursing it the other day.
I don’t think I was on the hated road out of Sisters. I took 126. It’s probably 242 (or something like that) which looks pretty evil on the map. Chuck warned me!
