And the heat goes on . . . .

Thursday, July 2

P1050944Our campsite at Lazy Bend Campground, southeast of Estacada, Oregon

Yes, the crew and I are still at Lazy Bend.

We’re here enjoying the shade and the Clackamas River during the heat wave.  I’ve paid the fee through the holiday weekend.  It’s too risky to attempt a change of camps because the Mt. Hood campgrounds are full or full of reservations and the state parks have no vacancies.

P1050921A campsite at Lazy Bend

Tomorrow we meet Edith!

For those of you who don’t read comments, Edith is a 3-year-old pup I discovered several weeks ago who is being fostered in the Portland area.  I’ve made arrangements to meet her to decide whether she would fit into the crew, as well as make a suitable playmate for Reggie.

I’m throwing this post together.

Bridget, Reggie, and I are alongside the road at a high point where we can pick up internet signal.  It’s hot and becoming hotter.  The crew won’t put up with me and this laptop much longer!  (I’m kicking myself for not having had the PTV’s air conditioning fixed.)

Here’s a quick summary . . .

In the mornings we go on little excursions along the Clackamas River.

P1050920Mostly we stay around camp where it’s shady and cool.

P1050922Around 5 o’clock each day, when the heat penetrates the shade, we go to the river to cool off.

P1050919Thank you for the life you bring to my blog.

I’ve read all your comments.  How wonderful you are, each and every one of you!  I’m sorry for this hasty post with a weak collection of photos.  It’s heating up fast, time to go.

Love you!

rvsue

NOTE:  Someone please post a link to Edith’s photo at The Pixie Project for the benefit of those who haven’t seen her.  Thanks.  I don’t want to get your hopes up about her.  If it’s meant to be, it will be!

THANKS FOR SHOPPING AMAZON FROM MY BLOG!

She is ADORABLE !! Edith could very well be Reggie-boy’s sister, they look very much alike.
Hope RVSue & crew it able to grow…good luck to the 3 of your ( rather, to the 4 of you )

      It pops up for me!

    • Sharon says:

I replyed on the wrong person. Thanks for the pic of Edith (that was my moms middle name). Hoping it works out for her with Sue and her crew.

      • Gayle - SO CAL Beach Boomer says:

Sharon: you probably didn’t reply to the wrong person. It’s more like a “reply” post ends up God-knows-where! My post was to thank Jan Johnson for posting the photo of Edith, and it didn’t land there at all.

  5. Linda Rose & the 4 M's says:

It’s horribly hot here too. Days and days of too much heat and not cooling down at night. I’m glad you have a spot to get you through the holiday. I didn’t realize there might be a new addition to your crew. How exciting!! Be careful of becoming a crazy dog lady like me…these critters can take over your house and heart!! 3 will be so much more manageable than 4 of course….lol. Pictures and post were very welcome. even if short and sweet! take care and give those fur babies a smooch from me and the 4 m’s

  6. Lee J in Northern California says:

Iced tea, damp cloth around your neck, shade, sweat…lots of sweat!
Glad you are going to be able to meet Edith!

We have cooler temperatures today, down into the nineties with overcast skies. Hope the same for you…..
Thank goodness for a creek to play in when the heat gets nasty!

No camping for me as I am still struggling with shingles, ugh…but I have an extended stay coming up in Klamath Falls while my grand daughter has spine surgery in Portland..the events never seem to stop….it seems like stuff happens in Threes..why is that? First son Breaks his foot requiring surgery, then my shingles, now this next terrible thing….

    • Velda in Roseville Ca says:

Pick up some Lysine capsules. Lysine is an amino acid which is used in creams for virus cold sores and in capsules can help heal shingles. My hubby had his first bout of shingles last year and as soon as he showed me I knew immediately what it was and gave him 2 caps of Lysine and called our dermatologist . Dr confirmed my diagnosis and said Lysine was a good thing in addition to the anti viral RX he gave him. His shingles were gone in under two weeks!!! I keep Lysine on hand at all times because I tend to get a ulcer on my gum once in a while and found if I take the Lysine at first tingle I can keep the ulcer from coming on.

    • eliza says:

Lee J – I hope you feel better soon. It takes a while for the sensitivity to go away. Epsom salts or capsaicin can help soothe the irritation. I really hope your granddaughter’s surgery and recovery go well – that is very scary. Sending all good wishes your way….

    • Krystina - In Warrenton, Oregon says:

Good Morning Lee J Your granddaughter is in my prayers that her surgery is a BIG success! UGH shingles…I hope they go away REALLY fast and that there will not be a 3rd thing.

  7. Teri LiveOak Fl says:

Thanks Jan. Looks live Edith could be Reggie’s sister. Hope it works out and cools off.

  8. cate walsh says:

    Hi Sue and Crew,

Great to hear from you again. Your blogorinos have been keeping me company, and I love chatting with them. Missed you, and understand. I’m going to take a peek at Edith next. Good luck with a possible adoption. What will you do if Reggie falls in love, but you decide its not meant to be? How will you break the news? 🙂

This would have been the summer for you to be in Maine…our weather has been mostly cool to pleasantly warm…NO HEAT yet. I liked the photos! Anything natural, green, or watery looks great to me.

Take good care XXOO to the pups and you too,
    Cate W

    • Krystina - In Warrenton, Oregon says:

Good Morning Cate. I am from Vermont and we camped in Maine ALL the time. LOVE Maine. What town do you live in?

      • cate walsh says:

        Hi Krystina,

I live in Portland, Maine overlooking our beautiful harbor with a peek at the open ocean out beyond the Casco Bay Islands. One of the first things I want to do once I have my rig is stay in Acadia National Park before I head to the west coast.

I was born and brought up in Vermont. Born in Burlington, also lived in Rutland and Woodstock at different stages of my life. Still miss it, but my job is here.

        Happy trails,
        Cate W

        • Krystina - In Longview, Oregon says:

Good Morning Cate! Love, Love, Love Portland. We camped their many times. Way back in the day (80’s early 90’s) I owned a baby furniture, European toy store in West Lebanon NH called the Red Wagon and had a friend that owned a fabulous toy store in Portland. Of course I can’t remember the name of it or her name UGH. My kids and I also camped in Acadia many times as well. It was well known that when we went camping it was sure to rain. One time we went to Acadia and the signs were up saying NO CAMPFIRES because it was so dry…we were very disappointed. You guessed it…the tent wasn’t even up for 30 minutes when it poured for two hours! LOL The first time I lived in Vermont I lived in Sharon and my favorite place was Woodstock. So New England and the shops were wonderful. The kids and I would go there and have a picnic in that little park. Loved it. Later on in life I moved back to Vermont and bought a house in Lyndonville and was the Accountant at Bag Balm for 12 years. Best product ever…heals EVERYTHING. Happy that you are now a Bloggerino!

          Krystina

  9. Cynthia from San Clemente, CA says:

Wow, I usually read the comments, but must have missed the ones about Edith. Just looked at the link and she is a cutie! I agree if it’s meant to be it will be; I’ve found that dogs can be a lot like people, sometimes they mix well together and sometimes not. I’m sure Bridget and Little Man will let you know what they think!!!

  10. cate walsh says:

Edith is a cutie…if personality matches sweet face, what’s not to love?
    Cate W

  11. Tammy says:

My, my…she looks similiar to Reggie. The pups would enjoy another buddy. Hope everything works out well.

  12. So glad you got to drop in for a visit! :-). Hope you have a Wonder ful 4th of July! Chuck and I are staying home! The island is swamped with tourists and campgrounds filled! Its gonna be crazy for the next week! St. George Island was named the #3 beach in USA this year, so we have a larger than normal vacation crowd!
We are so glad Edith is still on your agenda! Looking forward to hearing more!
    We love ya!

  13. Betty -Shea says:

  14. Yay!!! So glad you get to meet up with Edith, that way you’ll know for sure and won’t always have to ~wonder~….

Stay cool….and Happy 4th to you, Sue & Crew, and all the Blogorinos!!! Stay safe!

  15. lindale says:

    Happy 4th Sue.

  16. Shawna says:

Stay cool Sue and Crew, it’s gonna be a scorcher. As for little Miss Edith —- she is adorable and I am sure her and Reggie would be wonderful companions. I am a little worried, though. Is Miss Bridget OK, or you just want a younger pup to play with The Reg man? That’s how I ended up with three dogs………………
    Happy Fourth!!!

  17. Denise - Richmond VA says:

    Hi, Sue,

Thank you for the short and sweet post. Try to stay cool. Best of luck tomorrow!

Gracie pup and I are sending you and the Crew loving thoughts and warm hugs! 🙂

  18. Sondra-SC says:

The AC in my van comes and goes so annoying because I spent over$400 already and its not fixed! It has to be a short or loose wire but where? Who knows…
Hope it cools off there soon, the weekend will come and go and you’ll get a peaceful campground again. Good luck with Edith.

  19. Susan in Dallas says:

Beautiful site! Love that last photo of Reggie looking to see, “What’s next?” Happy 4th!

  20. Virginia Henkaline says:

I hope Edith works out because she is a doll . Bet Reggie’s heart goes pitty patt!

  21. Lisa W says:

I hope you and the crew are staying semi cool. The camp site seems to have a lot to offer, I hope it won’t get to noisy over the weekend.

  22. I love your pictures!! We’ve been there before. It is so beautiful. I loved the years I lived in Estacada.

  23. Pauline in Mississippi says:

My sister can pick the best camp sites!!!!!

The pictures are great. Hope you are coping okay with the heat. Your “dips” in the river remind me of the hot days when we would “dip” into the Battenkill

Hoping that Edith will fit into the crew.

Wishing you, the crew and all your readers a Happy and Safe 4th of July Weekend.

    Love you!

  24. Barbara (Nashville) says:

Glad to see your post, Sue. I have to say I fell in love with Reggie when you got him and I love Edith’s sweet little face also. Those Jack Russell mix pictures just jump off the pages. I finally found one up in NW TN and am going to meet her on Tuesday. She is white, except her ears are brown. I can hardly contain my excitement. Here is a link to see her.

    • Denise - Richmond VA says:

      Hi, Barbara,

Little Carli is adorable!! I know you are counting the days until Tuesday! I have my fingers crossed for you both…that you will be a good fit for each other! 🙂

    • Pamela K. in GA says:

      Barbara,
Just now went to visit the link. She is cute-as-a-button!! She looks like she is a real tom-boy too, that stance of her’s says she can keep up with any of the boy dogs on her block, lol. She should keep ya busy for sure 🙂

      • Barbara (Nashville) says:

        Thanks Denise and Pamela.
The lady at the shelter says she like to play but is reserved and also likes being indoors snuggling up. Not only do I like her, but my husband likes her and since he has difficulty getting around, I thought she would be good company for him. I just can’t hardly wait. We were supposed to meet today, but due to the severe weather up that way, we postponed. She seems more calm than most JR’s, but we will see.

    • Velda in Roseville Ca says:

Shucks hope you got her because the link has her no longer there.

    • DesertGinger says:

      Very cute!

    • Awwwww she is so cute! I hope your meeting goes well!

  25. Jason in NY says:

Good luck Sue I hope it all works out for you!!! 😉

  26. I googled the route from your campground to the Pixie and wondered if you would be going to see her. Edith is such a cute dog. She and Reggie will make a nice looking pair. Hope it will work out for all of you.

  27. Lynn Brooks says:

Sending all best wishes & hopes for Edith!!!
    Stay cool!!!
    Happy 4th!!!!

  28. Barb from Hoquiam! says:

Oh gosh she is darling! I had forgotten your AC was out. Gosh I am sorry Sue! Nasty out there!!!

So, Happy 4th and stay safe.

  29. Pookieboy in SE Texas says:

(I’m kicking myself for not having had the PTV’s air conditioning fixed.)

Posted on July 9, 2013 by rvsueandcrew
Somewhere between Moroni and Fountain Green, the air conditioner quits.
Absolutely dead. No fan. No cold air. Am I bothered by this? Not a bit. I’m so dang happy that we aren’t stuck in the Wal-Mart parking lot back in Ephraim, another repair is just something to take care of another day. I bring down the windows. The rush of air heightens my sense of adventure.

    • DesertGinger says:

And there in lies the problem with sharing your life and thoughts on a blog: they are cast in stone and every passer-by gets to notice and point out your inconsistencies and “Duh!” Moments!

    • weather says:

Seeing these two comments was a lot of fun, thanks,Ed,for posting it,and Ginger for seeing and adding to the wry humor -good point,Ha! I hope things are going well for you both, and that today is a bright one for all of us 🙂 .You know,I’d rather look back and see myself excited, even if a bit messed up by sweat and mud smudges, than sitting primly checking things off the list in my daytimer notes for that day. Both days involved Sue being on an adventure-similar days in my life stand out in memory, the other kind fade into a blur with colors as dull as those times were to live through.Kinda neat how that works .

      • rvsueandcrew says:

Good morning, Ginger, weather, and ed!

Thank you for sharing your perspectives. I don’t see any inconsistency at all.

I’m still not bothered with a lack of air conditioning when motoring along like we were two years ago when I wrote those words.

I continue to enjoy breezing along on a hot day with the windows down. What I was referring to in this post was sitting in the PTV in a parking area alongside a highway with a warm laptop on my lap and two panting dogs at my side while trying to write a blog post with air temperature near 100 degrees. I certainly didn’t anticipate this situation when writing a post two years ago.

The two situations are like apples and oranges… 🙂

        • Elizabeth in WA says:

Our grandson has what appears to be photographic memory…sounds like Ed does as well…or else a great lot of time to search for things! We are not comfortable this summer in north Seattle either…but everyone says it is hotter than ever remembered too…and the humidity of course, has a lot to do with that. Our teeny AC in the bedroom works pretty good however…and sometimes I stay in that room to do some things! It helps be bearable in the rest of the apt. too. This summer is supposed to be burning hot all over the West, so might be a good investment to have your AC fixed now, Sue!! I do think if you stayed directly along the coastline however, it might be bearable as it is…but coming inland even though near water has been quite warm. SO FAR, we have not needed our AC past 11 PM anyway…so it cools off for a bit…usually breezes come through off the water and it helps.

          • rvsueandcrew says:

I’d rather put up with the heat than camp in an RV park on the coast, and then there are the high fees for the privilege of close neighbors.

I hope you and your husband can stay comfortable.

  31. Applegirl NY says:

Edith looks adorable. You will know if she is a match for you and the crew. Best wishes on your decision. We all wait with baited breath.

  32. Deb Larson says:

Edith is so cute, hope it work out. You give a wonderful home to the crew. Have a happy 4th.

  33. PJ Crim says:

Wowee! Three dogs! A: Can’t wait for pictures of you juggling three leashes! B: Can’t wait for the hilarious blog entries by Miss Bridge about another puppy!

  34. Pamela K. in GA says:

    Hi Sue,
Glad you could log on for a short but welcomed post 🙂
I was super glad to read you are going to see Miss Edith! She is such a doll!
I keep thinking about Miss Bridget though…since her last Canine Corner was about sitting on the sidelines while Reggie-Man got so much attention. Well, ~Bridge-ee Baby~, you are Royalty, and as such have a much harder job than simply looking cute and running around all the time! We all know that only a true Princess can carry the weight of her kingdom on her shoulders and still walk tall in her own shadow. 🙂 So this posts is for You! See? We never forget about You, even when loving on Reggie and ~maybe the soon-to-be new crew member~ Edith. Besides, it will be extra nice for you to have more one-on-one time with RVSue while the younger ones play. Extra ear-rubs to you, sweet Bridget 🙂 🙂 🙂

  35. BadgerRickInWis says:

OK, ya’ll know how I get these crew images in my demented mind. So picture this from the not so distant future:

Lil’ Reggie and Edith sit pensively at attention. There little heads tilted just so to indicate that they are paying rapt attention. Reggie squirms a bit not used to being in the constrained setting that a formal education demands.

Professor Bridgette paces before the classroom her bifocals sliding down her nose just a bit as she channels her teacher mentor RVSue. “Now class” she barks “Please turn your Boondocking 101 syllabus to page six. As you are aware being a member of the RVSue crew comes with certain duties.”

“She said doodie.” Reggie giggles under his breath. Good little Edith tries to shush him but not before he faces the wrath of the stern Professor Bridgett. “REGGIE, I have told you before you HAVE to pay attention in class”

“I’m sorry Miss Bridget” Reggie sniffles.

Bridget takes a deep breath and then continues more gently. “I know your sorry Reggie, but it’s a big responsibility to be a member of this crew. Those Blogorinos expect and deserve a certain level or professionalism from us. It’s not all just licking Sue awake in the morning and playing special Ops. We need to be on our game every single day! Plus as I have made abundantly clear it’s up to you and Edith now to bear the vast majority of the photo modeling duties. You know Sue and that damn camera. The shutter never rests.”

“I said I was sorry” muttered Reggie, hanging his head and gently kicking his little paw into the dirt.

“We’ll be good” responds sweet Edith. “You guys have been so nice to me and I just can’t believe that I get to live a life like this. Beautiful campsites, always new adventures and RVSue well, she’s just the best 2 legger that a dog could ask for. She’s the best ever!”

Little Edith than paused and sniffled, when she spoke again her voice was just a mere whisper. “I just so badly want to fit in with you guys. I mean my foster dad was great and all but this life is just so cool. I so badly want RVSue to love me and want to keep me….. I still don’t know why my other owner had to give me up. I tried to be good but I must have done something wrong and ended up being put up for adoption.”

This time it was the stern Professor who was taken aback. “Oh sweetie.” She said gently as she lowered her head and gave the young pup a soft lick on the ear. “I don’t think you did anything wrong, there’s lots of reasons that folks have to give up dogs. And you sure don’t have to worry about RVSue loving you. That’s just what she does. She loves all of us unconditionally and all we have to do is love her back and that’s something that dogs do better than anything. You’re doing great here and I know RVSue loves you will all her heart…………and so do I.”

With that Edith leaned into Bridget and whispered “I love you too Miss Bridget.”

Professor Bridget accepted her hug as slight tear welled in her eye and then looking over Edith’s head exclaimed in her best Schoolmarme voice. “Darn it Reggie, quit trying to kill that stuffed monkey and get back here!”

Needless to say another perfect day continued for RVSue and her 12 legged crew.

    • Pamela K. in GA says:

      BadgerRick,
I swear, you are just too wonderful with those stories! Love everyone of them, every time 🙂
But now, after such a grand story as this one was, how are we to ever let up if Edith is not a new crewmember? I don’t think we can, I mean be able to! Well I’m crossing my fingers just in case. Now I’m off to bed and thinking sweet puppy-dog dreams…Bridge, Reggie-Man and Sweet Little Edith. I shall sleep well tonight thanks to your goodnight story.
      Nite-Nite Everyone and Happy Puppy-Dog Dreams 🙂

Great story Badger Rick!!! I had tears in my eyes imaging it. 🙂

    • rvsueandcrew says:

Well done, Rick! Thanks for entertaining the blogorinos!

      • What a wonderful story, I was so there! I felt like I was watching a Disney cartoon. Are you sure you have not worked for Disney!

        • BadgerRickInWis says:

Never worked there, but there have been times when I have thought I lived there. (Or maybe that was a Grateful Dead show, there’s parts O’ my youth that are a bit fuzzy.)

I like the idea though. Maybe in the next addition the crew will share a plate of spaghetti. 🙂

          • Lee J in Northern California says:

Wonderful Badger Rick. My goodness..here is,the path to RV Sue having a wonderful second retirement, royalties from the princess Bridget , Reggie and Edith book, written just for blogorinos! My grandkids will love this story too?

            • Barbara (Nashville) says:

Love the story Rick. I hope and pray that Sue takes Edith. She has such a sweet face and sooooo cute. I have been keeping an eye on her since Sue first talked about her. Wouldn’t mind having her myself, but she is waaaaay too far away and they don’t adopt out of state and I definitely would never try to take her from Sue.
As a result, I have found a similar shelter dog, see my earlier post, which will be mine if the dog likes me as much as I like her.

Thanks again for the blog I’ve enjoyed it for a long time.
I pray your travels will be safe and you and the crew stay in good health.
Looking forward to reading all your adventures.

This morning you are so close to reaching the next one to love,I imagine besides being excited you may feel a bit anxious.Yesterday when I’d mentioned your story of doing that in life I’d pictured what you go through -the detours and what you endure or sacrifice for it.Today my thoughts have been from Edith’s point of view, knowing this day may change so much for her.I know we need not own creation’s masterpieces or those made by humanity to appreciate ,love or enjoy them. That I couldn’t say yes to all those that wanted to share me or my home in life-they had their own journeys to live. That’s all good and right.Ah-h,but the wonder found in the times when connections did come …Sweet Lord, rich beyond measure-so hoping this is one!

Perfect photos to let us see the gifts already surrounding you as the holiday weekend comes and goes.I’m so glad all of that is yours right now.A lovely circumstance to be in as you celebrate whatever 🙂 Drink it all in friend, including lots of water, precious part of your path happening, wow,am I loving seeing it,thanks!

    • I am so there with you….I wish we had a GoPro on Sue so we could see what is going on…I am really, really anxious. I am also at work today for 4 hours. Covering the shift because of the Holiday, a little boring today, not much to do, so I will be sitting on this Post all day waiting for news.

Hi Shirlene,it really is exciting for someone to get an addition to their family, what fun!By Sue’s note below,I get the feeling we probably won’t hear more from her today, yet probably won’t be able to resist checking after 5:00 your time.Have you looked at Edith a bunch of times ,too? There’s a pair of pooches called Maya and Baxter(?) on that site that I’d scoop up in a flash, lucky it’s so far away or I’d be really crowding the jeep on some rides!

      • weather says:

        oops,the male’s name is Pancho

        • Hi Weather, I have only looked at Edith a couple of times, I am afraid I will get too invested and then be disappointed if it does not work out. Those web sites drive me nuts! If I could I would adopt them all! Right now I am trying really hard not to foster an Italian Greyhound. I had one once and loved her so. There is a Italian Greyhound rescue nearby me. But I am being good (for now). Too many irons in my fire at the moment. Have a good day, don’t stay up too late, but I will be looking around 5:00 also.

          • weather says:

            🙂 🙂

          • BadgerRickInWis says:

I know what you mean Shirlene. I once read that every dog up for adoption has a story to tell. And every single one of them breaks my heart. 🙁

I have considered volunteering at out local humane society but I know I’d end up owning about 10 dogs.

  39. Denise - Richmond VA says:

    Good morning, Sue,

Oh and the Crew are in my thoughts this morning. I send you wishes for safe, stress free travel, and look forward to your update. Gracie pup and I are sending you and the Crew hugs, and throwing in an extra one for Miss Edith! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

  40. Denise - Richmond VA says:

    …You and the Crew…..

  41. DesertGinger says:

Good luck on your trip today Sue. I know you’ll make the right choice re Edith. Have fun!

  42. Terri From Texas says:

Even your thrown together posts are good! Don’t worry! Good luck with Edith!

  43. Krystina - In Warrenton, Oregon says:

Happy 4th of July Everyone! Thank you to everyone who has served or are serving now…including my daughter Erika who is a Marine and did two tours in Iraq. Love you baby girl!! Sue, I have my fingers crossed that Edith is a perfect fit for you and the crew. The pics in this post are fabulous and they sure don’t indicate that it is a zillion degrees. It is going to be 70 today here on the coast 🙂 Happy that you gave us a quick post. I always worry about you and miss you when you are away. Of course the Bloggerinos have kept us all entertained!

  44. Jodee Gravel on the road in Brookings, OR says:

We continue to stay in the foggy coolness of the coast – actually went looking for some sun yesterday 🙂 I suppose if the crew grows, its members need to get smaller and Edith sure is a tiny thing. Will be interesting to see if Bridget will tolerate another female. In any case, you’ll know if she’s a match for the three of you.

  45. Karen LeMoine says:

Anxiously waiting to hear the happy news of a new crew member! Edith will love the on the road lifestyle! Hurry back with some pics!!! What an exciting weekend!

  46. rvsueandcrew says:

    Good morning, everyone!

Thank you for your thoughtful words. The appointment to meet Edith is for 4 o’clock today. That means I probably won’t post again until tomorrow as my focus will be on the crew for the rest of the day.

I have a good feeling about Edith. Sure, the crew and I found ourselves camped at a low elevation during a heat wave in order to be near her when under normal circumstances we would be camped in a cooler place. Nevertheless “doors” opened for us as we traveled toward Edith.

I hope you are in a place that is right for you and that you find many blessings throughout the holiday weekend.

    Happy Independence Day!

    Sue

    • weather says:

Thanks for the update ,how thoughtful of you to let us know! I’ve been sitting on pins and needles wondering when we’d find news here. Now I can relax and continue enjoying my day looking forward to what you tell us tomorrow 🙂

    • Elizabeth in WA says:

Looking forward to hearing how it all goes. Edith does look a lot like Reggie…and being so small at least ought not to take excessive room in your rig.

    • Denise - Richmond VA says:

      🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

  47. Barb from Hoquiam! says:

Oh Sue good luck! Can’t wait!!! She is a darlin!

  48. Nonna says:

What a sweet face she has! I sure hope she likes her picture taken! Will be sending prayers your way for a successful meeting for you all.

  49. Hi Sue, I hope everything goes well for you and Edith. It looks like the blogorinos have already adopted her…. I will be up at the crack of dawn looking for an answer on today’s visit. All prayers and safe travels to you and the crew.

  50. AZ Jim says:

Wow! If this works out and I hope it does, we will have to re-name the blog, “The Crew and RV Sue”. I wish you good luck Missy.

  51. Thanks for the update Sue! I sure hope it works out for Edith, but if it doesn’t I will know you made the best decision for you, your crew and Edith!
Have a great Fourth to Sue and crew and to all you wonderful blogerino’s!

  52. Chuck says:

    Hi Sue!
We got Radar as a companion for Doogie but he wound up being Scotty(our older Sheltie) and the two played constantly. We both feel that Radar added years to Scottys life. Hope Edith might do the same.

  53. Mike Leonard says:

Sue, that is a beautiful area. My wife and I used to find places to park up that way when we were sixteen. We live in Battle Ground now, and have been married for almost 45 years.

I hope Edith works out, she is adorable! We go camping in our Casita with four Bichons. They love it and so do we. Safe journeys, and maybe we’ll meet you and the crew someday.

  54. Jolene says:

As it should be about an hour from when Sue and the crew is meeting Edith, I find myself getting excited for them and praying if this is meant to be it will happen. Oh what fun Crew and Sue will have!! Thinking of you at about 5 pm CDT!

  55. Misha says:

Just discovered your blog. Awesome! I am recently widowed, 62 and have a 2005 Chevy Express 3500 passenger van with the 6.0 liter engine. I bought a 31 ft travel trailer and am in the middle of gutting and customizing it. My grown children are against me taking my TT and big Red Van to Arxona this winter. I think she( big red) will tow it just fine. We purchased it in 06 with 11,000 miles on it. My late husband took very good care of Red. She had her oil changed every 3,000 miles. It is coming up on 100,000 miles soon and I have just done my first oil change, air filter and charged the air conditioner. Do you think the van will pull my RV Trailer? I have removed all the extra weight and plan on running lean and mean when I leave NÇ for Az. But everyone say the vans are not made to tow. I think she will do fine. Have a wonderful 4th in God’s country. Glad I found someone else with a Chevy van!

    • Lee J in Northern California says:

      Hello Misha!

Your tow vehicle is probably just fine to tow a travel trailer. Does it have a tow package already? One of my trucks is an older, older than your van!, and I pull a huge four horse trailer full of horses and we cruise along. So don’t discount your van, it is a one ton vehicle and a work, horse, you will probably be fine!

It sounds like your kids are concerned about you, probably because you are their mom….but…I am 68 and I RV alone, Sue does, and lots of other women on here do to, so don’t let that stop you! That’s why we have insurance and road service and cell phones…
I think in all the years of solitary travel that includes hauling my horse to go to prime riding spots, I have only called the vet once and AAA once !
Tell your kids to not go borrowing trouble, let you furl your wings and fly!
Welcome, you are now comically a blogorino!

      • Lee J in Northern California says:

Oh gosh, I hate autocorrect..officially not comically! It was however comical to read what autocorrect said!

    • Jolene says:

I don’t know about the towing situation Misha, I just wanted to welcome you to Sue’s blog. There are many people that may be able to help you with your question. Glad you are one of Sue’s blogorinos now!!

    • Denise - Richmond VA says:

Welcome to Sue’s blogorino family, Misha! 🙂

    • Welcome Misha! Welcome your new found urge to explore! America is such a beautiful country! Sue is a good teacher so 4ead often! Most of us here are roadies!

    • Marilu from Northern California says:

      Welcome, Misha,
We look forward to hearing more about your adventure. Take some shorter shake,-down trips first. That will give you confidence and reassure your kids. With a little experience under your belt you’ll be ready to head to the southwest.

    • Krystina - In Warrenton, Oregon says:

Welcome to RVSue’s blog! Happy to see you here. Where do you live in NC? My sister Michele lives in Sunset Beach.

    • Vans can tow, but it will depend on weight of what you’re towing. Do you have the owner’s manual? That will tell you what it will pull. Check on the numbers for carrying capacity (what the van can carry, including tongue weight) and what the van will tow. More importantly, is what can you stop? We have, in the past, not had enough braking capacity for what we were towing, and it was terrifying. If you’re heading for Arizona, the southern route down the coast and across the US on 20 will give you the flattest terrain.
What kind of hitch are you using? The Equalizer weight distribution and anti-sway hitch is good and will help with preventing the TT from swinging.
It would be prudent to have a good road side assistance package. Good Sam and Coach Net are good, just in case. They’re not that expensive and they provide much piece of mind.
Good luck to you in all of your endeavors.

  56. Barbara (Nashville) says:

    Sue,
Hope Edith is a good fit. I’m praying for you and the crew & hopefully adding Edith.
    Anxiously waiting to hear.

  57. Elizabeth in WA says:

Speaking of the heat…hubby decided we needed another stronger fan…to help spread the coolness from our teeny AC…in addition to our little one. So we found a wonderful box fan made in the USA at the Bartell Drug store…along with a lot of other stuff. I love that place…they sell a lot of locally made foods too…canned and boxed. Plus nice clerks and good prices make for good shopping for folks in this part of WA state…I think they are mostly in the extended Seattle area…not sure where all…but NOT nationwide.

  58. Julia in Chatsworth says:

Hi and Happy Independence Day to all Sue’s friends and of course Sue Too.
I just saw this ad in the Los Angeles craigslist; I thought of the many who would like to get away in a fiberglass round type trailer for 6500.00.

Also new deep cycle battery and new tires and bike rack. headliner drupes a little other then that it’s ready for this summer everything is in proper working order as it should be sleeps 3 to 4 people garage kept most of its life

  59. Denise - Richmond VA says:

Happy Fourth of July, Sue and fellow blogorinos!! 🙂

I am anxiously awaiting to learn if the Crew, aka the dynamic duo, is now the three musketeers!! Anticipation is making me wait…….. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

  60. Jolene says:

Happy 4th of July everyone!!!I will be checking in all day to see what happened with Edith!! Have a great day everyone!!

  61. az jim says:

    The suspense is killing me…………*waiting……….

  62. Karen LeMoine says:

Sue what’s the verdict? The waiting is agonizing! Hoping Edith is an official Crew member.

  63. RVSue is probably learning how to walk 3 at a time on leashes! Grin! She will let us know, but first things first!

  64. BadgerRickInWis says:

However it turns out I have 100% faith is Sue’s instincts regarding Edith. If I have learned anything reading this blog it is that Sue will do what is best for her crew and herself.
I’m sure that all is well and all is unfolding as it is meant to be.

    • BadgerRickInWis says:

Of course that doesn’t mean that I haven’t hit the update button about 50 times this morning. 🙂

      • shirlene says:

        Yep.. 🙂 🙂 🙂

      • Pamela K. in GA says:

I know, same here. It’s almost 1:30 PM Georgia time and with all the rain and thunderstorms it’s like the highlight of my day to hear if Edith is the newest Crew Member or not…
        So we wait 🙂

Hope your 4th is not a washout and you get to enjoy it however you choose to 🙂
