Backyard camping is for the birds!

View from the door of the Best Little Trailer

The crew and I are camped in the back yard of our new house!

A mesquite tree, freshly leafed out and displaying yellow blooms, provides a canopy for our outdoor room.

I push back in the lounger and watch a hummingbird move from one yellow buffet to another.  Nearby Reggie and Roger attack each other.  Even with a large yard in which to race around, they still see the blue mat as their special play space.

About backyard camping . . .

You know, I can’t just park the BLT and plug into a house outlet.

The BLT’s cord is 30 amp (your rig may be 50 amp).  The house outlet is 15 amp.  Something to consider, eh?

Besides the amperage difference, another consideration is the length of the power cord.  The BLT’s cord is 15 feet.  If I want to make our camp under the mesquite tree in the back yard, I need a longer cord.

On the way to the closing on the house . . .

I stop at the store.

“Wait a sec, guys.  I’ll be right back!”

I buy a 25-foot, 30-amp extension cord for forty-nine bucks and change.

Of course, Amazon has a similar cord:   Camco Heavy Duty Outdoor Extension Cord, 10-gauge, 30 amp, 25 feet

Okay, now the length of the cords combined is 40 feet (See how I did the math for you?).  Forty feet will reach from the BLT parked under the mesquite tree to one of the house outlets.

The 30-amp plug is a big honking 3-pronger.

That’s good because it keeps people like me from plugging it into a little, 15-amp outlet.  I also pick up an adapter at the store for about ten bucks.

Here’s one at Amazon:  Camco Heavy Duty RV Adapter- 30 amp plug to 15 amp outlet

Make sure you get the right one because there are adapters for the reverse, 15 amp plug to 30 amp outlet.  Electrical nerds like to say “male to female” or “female to male.”

Sheesh.  Gotta’ bring sex into everything . . . .

(And whatcha’ wanna’ bet that last sentence causes my spam folder to runneth over?)

I’d better change the subject.

Birds!  Yeah, let’s talk birds!

Yesterday at dusk two gambrel quail scurry up the road, topknots a-bobbing.  Every day there’s a flock of sparrows singing from the trees.  While I relax in the lounger, a flicker flicks (of course) through the mesquite branches, looks us over, and then takes off.

From somewhere doves coo.

I noticed a gray bird with a curved beak bringing insects to her nest in one of the Italian cypress trees. A few moments ago, as I sit here inside the BLT with my laptop,  I go to Cornell’s All About Birds website and search.

Identification is easy!

By comparing recordings of calls, I distinguish it from LaConte’s Thrasher, which also can be spotted in Arizona.

Funny thing . . .

Right when I’m about to listen online to the Curve-billed Thrasher’s call, “our” thrasher calls outside the open window.  I hit “play” and can’t tell which call is which, real or recorded.  An exact match!

You can listen to the call and song, plus watch a video, of a Curve-billed Thrasher at this link.

Oh my gosh, a roadrunner!

He hops onto the chain link fence and jumps into the back yard.  I try for a shot and get nothing but tail feathers as he makes his way around the perimeter.  Roger sees and chases him out.

I’ll get him with my camera someday.

This is great!  Already our house is a welcome place for birds.  We’ll have to get a bird bath and put up feeders . . . .

  1. Dawn in NC says:

    First! I’m so excited!

  2. Hi Sue,
If you have a bird bath the birds will definitely visit you in that part of AZ. One thing I miss about our house between Sierra Vista and Bisbee is the multitude of birds we had visiting. And oh, the hummingbirds you will get! Nice job on the power cable. Now you need to find the drain connector so dumping at the house is possible!
    Enjoy the backyard camping!

  3. Seana in AZ says:

    7th? Come on lucky dice!

  4. Chaunte in West TN says:

    Second?

  5. Dawn in NC says:

OK, now I’ve gone back and read! I LOVE the header picture of Roger smelling the flowers. It pairs hysterically to the stink eye he gives you as you leave him in the van! It’s great to see Reggie and Roger sans leashes and harnesses playing in nature (aka your back yard). Thanks so much for sharing about the birds. I love birds. I first started watching birds after I put up bird feeders for my cats to watch. Pretty soon, I was watching more than the cats 😉 Can’t wait till you get a shot of the road runner. How great he just came sauntering on in to your back yard. Thanks for sharing all of this beauty and bounty!

  6. MollyLuvsRoadtrippin (WA) says:

A fenced in campsite – the boys are off leash with a nice big perimeter to be in charge of and your lounger is under a mesquite to call your own. Ahhh, opening a new chapter of life is truly grand.

  7. Velda in Roseville CA says:

So happy for you and your sister. And,of course, the fur kids. Someday I will look for a similar landing zone. All the best to you and your family.

  8. Jolene/Iowa says:

I love this! Love hearing the excitement in your post and I just know the boys are going to love their yard, the birds and all of it. Pretty yard!

  9. Ladybug in Mid-Tenn says:

You might want to take a look at the National Wildlife Federation’s website, about creating a habitat for wildlife. That does include birds. LOL Not sure what the National Audubon Society has in the way of building a habitat.

If I was going to stay in this house into retirement, I would develop around here. There’s lots of birds around my house.

  10. Dawn in Mi says:

I’m very happy for you! Sounds like a great backyard.

  11. Cathy M Van Booven says:

I am so happy for you. I know you enjoyed the open road, but it is nice to have family close and a community of your own choice nearby. Looking forward to more adventures on your blog. Nice you have desert tolerant landscaping and you can enjoy the fruits of the prior owners plantings. Good luck

  12. Nancy in California says:

Hi Sue and crew! Congrats on your new home base! Sounds lovely and peaceful!
I want to give a little note of warning, ’bout living in the west with 2 little digs and a fenced in yard. You probably well know this, but i will say it just in case. Coyotes. Yep, those beautiful wild critters, are very opportunistic hunters. They can jump a 8 foot wall, and climb a 12 foot chainlink fence. Here in the suburbs of so cal, in the past 2 months, 2 coyote attacks on small dogs on my block! Ine pup survived coz owner immediately intervened. One pup, left alone in yard, did not. Both properties fully fenced/walled. Dawn, dusk, night are when they are most active but they are spotted in broad daylight too.. In one of the recent cases, the coyote was in the yard already, perhaps waiting in ambush, and grabbed the dog almost the second it got out to pee. Luckily, that owner was right behind.
Hope this post is not too much of a downer when we are really celebrating your wonderful new adventure!!

    • Renee still in Idaho says:

We too have coyotes here in the suburbs of Meridian, Idaho. At night, I put the doggie door on so my little rat terrier can’t slip out without my knowledge. I sure don’t want to find out she’s been attacked.

      • Nancy in California says:

        Hi Renee!
Exactly! It is just a matter of being a little more vigilant than we wish we had to be! I get up every morning just before dawn as I am an early to bed, early to rise kinda gal. First, I go out with a flashlight and check my rather large yard for any unwecome visitors. Then, I let my rather smallish (60 lbs), German Shepherd out. Only after her patrol and “all clear”, do I let the little pug out to do her thing, with me tagging along. All before my first lovely cup of coffee!

    • Gloria in Prescott, Az. says:

Nancy, So glad you brought this up. We heard our next door neighbor’s dog scream it’s last one night, it was awful. We have cats disappear around here all the time too. Can’t be too careful with those precious boys.

      • Nancy in California says:

        Hi Gloria!
2 years ago, early one morning, i heard that same scream from my next door neighbors yard. I started yelling and turning on outdoor lights, and the coyote stopped the attack and ran. Dog survived with an emergency vet visit with wounds to neck and stomach. Neighbors had lived there 35 years, with little dogs and doggy doors the whole time, and never an attack. They now close doggy doors at night!

    • Linda in NE says:

We live on the edge of a small Nebr. town and the coyotes have gotten pretty bad here. Last summer they came right into the backyard & were so loud they woke me up. Hunting. The next time I heard them close in in the night our momma cat came up missing. That’s how we got two kitties…we wound up raising her kittens. Now I worry about them because they are bound & determined to go outside at night & don’t always want to come in.

  13. Columbus Calvin says:

It’s always good to be in a place with plenty of birds. That’s a very good sign.

  14. chas anderson says:

Hopefully, if you keep a hummingbird feeder around you will get hooded orioles. We have gotten them almost every winter when we snowbird in AZ.They seem to be shy at first but come around after a feeder is out a while.Beautiful birds.

  15. Carlene and Corky in western Nevada says:

I love your curved bill thrasher. We had one the first winter volunteering at Bosque del apache. He would hang on the window screen and peck letting us know the feeder was empty. “Get to work you’re falling down on the job”. He was so funny…
So happy for you and yours to have a home base…

  16. Geri in the FL panhandle! says:

💗 I am so happy for you Sue! I still can’t find the proper words to tell you that I wish you and Nancy the best in your new home!
Your backyard sound like a bird sanctuary already! I have two hummingbird feeders that have finally started attracting a few ruby throats! I wish I could find the UFO type of feeders we had in Zion! You had them listed awhile ago. Guess they stopped making them, they sure attracted lots of hummers wherever we were when we hung them!
Reggie and Roger look perfectly contented in their new backyard. 💕
Good buy on the electrical stuff!
Thanks for the park out your front door! You really are a tease you know!
Enjoy your new backyard! Hahaha! You deserve it!
Hurry up Nancy! Your backyard awaits!

  17. ValGal (westernWA) says:

Sheesh! Miss a few posts and the whole world changes!!! Lol. Congrats, RVSue! How exciting to have a home base and with your sister!!!! What an awesome change.

I was kinda wondering why we weren’t seeing any northerly movement and hearing exciting teasers about the upcoming camping season.

I’m happy for you. May you, your sister, and your boys be blessed with years of happiness in your new home.

  18. rvsueandcrew says:

    Hi, blogorinos!

I’ll be dropping in here throughout the day. Lots of stuff to do! I’m setting up my folding table on the patio along with the griddle and propane tank. I’m determined to make a tostada on the griddle for lunch!

See you later! In the meantime, feel free to chat without me.

    Sue

  19. Terry says:

Now I know!! Sue I have been feeling rather selfish lately….wondering how the change might affect your stories of nature birds animals and stuff like amps and watts and converters. I have grown to look forward to your blogs and blogarinos responses. I was happy for you but a little sad too for me. This post reassured me. RELIEF Sounds silly huh. Well even so please keep telling us your stories. Terry in the Midwest.

  20. Liz O'C says:

I’m so very, very happy for you Sue! The house sounds like the right move for you at this time. Will be nice to have a home base in between travels. It had seemed that you were revisiting favorite camps rather than venturing to new ones (why not?!! It’s like going to a new restaurant, having domething you really, really like, then ordering the same thing each time. Just because it was so good! Why try something new you might not like as much?)

    Enjoy nesting for a while!

    Liz & Margie

  21. weather says:

Knowing how much birds have often meant to you makes me ecstatic that so many live around your house. If nothing else had shown you are meant to be there, the birds being there to welcome you home would have been enough…I’m full of happy sighs of contentment for you, Sue.

For Reggie and Roger your blue mat has meant “this is home ” for a long time. It’s so nice that you set up your outdoor room, a familiar comfort so they’ll feel secure through this transition. I know with everything that’s going on you expected to be staying there. They only know what’s happening as they live it and have a lot of changes to get used to.

The last photo in this post may not have been taken at your house, yet it’s fitting that you chose to show a lavender colored rose, it’s beautiful! That’s always been my favorite color for roses. You know how certain colors of roses have meanings attributed to them? A lavender rose signifies love at first sight and enchantment. My hope is for you to continually find your house, yard and life enchanting throughout the times ahead.

  22. Melissa AKA Crazy Cat Lady in Tacoma says:

    Hi Sue!
I’m so happy for you and your sister. What a special opportunity. My sister is my best friend, and couldn’t imaging not having her in my life.
I wish you all the happiness in the world! Look forward to hearing about your adventures in this next chapter 🙂
-Melissa AKA Crazy Cat Lady in Tacoma

  23. Nora now in Waveland Mississippi says:

    Hi Sue and crew,
Congrats on the new adventure! It’s ironic that you and your sister are moving in together as I am currently in Mississippi to see if this might be a spot that my sister and I can settle into together. I too love Arizona but Julie and I are both beach people and that’s one thing Arizona lacks. I’ll be watching your blogs to see how things work out for you and how you enjoy home ownership after so long.

  24. Becky in NJ says:

It looks like you have the makings for a beautiful yard! I love to watch hummers. Sounds like you will be very busy grilling- perhaps someday we can look forward to a “RV Sue Cookbook” !

  25. Cinandjules 🌵 says:

Home is still where you park it!
As I was reading…I thought…we had an adapter and plugged it into the outlet inside the garage. But reading on….you got it covered.
The blue mat is their imaginary fence…….
The gambrel quails are a treat…we laugh everyday as we watch the parade. Their youngens are hatching….and they can’t fly…so the run on the ground. Mom in front…the babies and dad at the rear!
Our hummers are gone from their nest.
Have a great weekend….PS don’t feel the need to move every 14 days….move it when you want to!
    Enjoy

    • Ruthie in Fontana says:

“Home is still where you park it”, reminded me of a favorite, “Bloom where you are planted”

  26. Diann in MT says:

Wow! I hope you keep blogging from your backyard. The flora and fauna are new to me! And, I am guessing, a few others. We have always learned a lot from your posts, Sue.
How fun it will be to just settle down and grill from your backyard camp, to go inside later and take a shower when you feel like it, and to peacefully plot a journey with the boys when you have the “hankering”. Your sister will probably catch the camping bug and want to come along. So fun! I have always preferred camping with others.
Keep having a great fun time in your new home, Sue and Crew!

  27. Cynthia from San Clemente says:

I love the backyard, and a bird bath and feeders are a great idea. I have 9 hummingbird feeders in my back yard and we get tons of hummingbirds. Some are here all year and some migrate during the winter months. I think Southern Arizona is a favorite area of hummingbirds, so you should see lots of them. During the spring and summer I buy the 25 lb. bags of sugar at Costco because I am filling the feeders every day and cleaning them every week. We have a large fountain in our side yard that has a water pump set to come on every morning at 6:20 a.m. The hummers monopolize it in the mornings and the larger birds, including finches, swallows, and doves visit in the afternoon. There is always one little hummer sitting at the very top of the fountain by 6:15 a.m. – I think it must feel like an e-ticket ride at Disneyland when the fountain comes on and that first gurgle of water bubbles up. Sometimes the hummers fight over the coveted spot – they’re kind of like blogarinos competing for first place on a new post!

This year, for the first time, we’ve had what I think is a House Sparrow attacking windows on the back of the house. When I did some research I learned birds sometimes do this when they accidentally see their reflection in the window and think it is another bird, and they are being territorial. This guy (I’m assuming it’s a guy) goes at the windows almost all day. At first I worried he was going to hurt himself, but apparently he knows just how aggressive to be without going too far. I’ve tried taping white paper to the windows and even downloaded and printed a crow photograph to tape to the windows, but nothing has worked. I’m hoping he’s protecting a nearby nest and will give it a rest once the babies have fledged.

I use the iBird Ultimate app on my iPad to identify my backyard birds and it is so much fun! We are leaving early Sunday morning for a week in the motorhome – headed to the Central Coast (Morro Bay) and then back down to San Clemente State Beach (in our own backyard) for Mothers’ Day. I can’t wait to let Sam and Lucy run free on the beach!!

I’m still smiling over your decision. It just sounds like it will be perfect for you and the crew, and I know we will all enjoy hearing about your “local” adventures, as well as your road trips!!

  28. All the Birds flock together to a morning tune, glad that Nancy and you found a neat sounding home and Base Camp, hope the PTV is running right and smoothly,,, I put in a rebuilt Alternator in the truck yesterday and now I’m working on building a Windmill for the Garden Railroad, sorry bout sending 2 e-mails of photos, I sometimes have real slow internet and am told it didn’t go through, hope they are good,, it’s muggy and raining here, I have a fan going to chase the muggyness away while I have fun building and Piper is out in the shade under the truck ,,, have a great and pleasant weekend and give the Boys a huge hug from us, ok,,, 🐾👣👣

  29. suzicruzi from the 'Couve says:

“New Chapter”, I love it. I think this is SO cool!! A whole new world has opened up for you and Sis. Very, very cool!!

Cheers, and Happy Cinco de Mayo! Maybe the (margaritas) force be with you all!
Suzi, in the Couve… but only for another 7 weeks at best!

  30. Barb in Florida says:

    Hi Sue & Crew,
I have so many questions, but figure all will come in time. I was going to suggest you go buy yourself a nice bed. You’re going to need one anyway. Then thought of the things in the house you might want to get done first. I’d be chomping-at-the-bit to get started. Don’t think we won’t get excited to see your new paint drying or half tiled floors or any remodeling you might do. Hopefully, it was in move-in condition so not a whole lot to do. They’ll always be puppy pictures. Can’t wait to see one happily dozing in a sunbeam coming thru the window.

Was trying to give you some ideas to photograph, just came up with this one. We’ve never seen the back of the PTV in all its glory. Am I too late and you’ve emptied it out? Just to see all that was in there would probably be something. What will turn up that you thought was lost? Maybe some things should be left to our imagination:)

    Love & hugs to you!

    • Elizabeth in WA says:

Great idea about the good bed Barb…our first expensive purchase when we set up house again here on the West Coast…we have a sleep number with a super nice topper from Costco…LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!

    • rvsueandcrew says:

      Hi, Barb,

I haven’t explained a lot of our plans. Nancy has furniture to furnish two bedrooms. Her taste is exquisite and the bed, dresser, nightstand, chair, etc. that will go into my room are quality. The mattress has only been slept on a couple times. When she arrives in August and we get the rooms set up, I’ll take photos.

      • Barb in Florida says:

Nice! I bet you can’t wait. I noticed you didn’t mention my idea about pictures of the back of the van. Just giving you a hard time;)

      • Renee still in Idaho says:

August? Well then, you have plenty of time for some trips with the BLT!

        • rvsueandcrew says:

Not a lot of time for trips these next few months. Lots to do at the house to get it ready, which I’ll blog about, plus once the super-hot weather hits AZ, I won’t want to drive in it. It wouldn’t hurt for me to have a break from travel. When I return to the road, I’ll be refreshed and eager for new camps in new places.

  31. LeeJ in Northern California says:

You know what just occurred to me? You know have a closet for your offseason clothes!
    Where did that come from?
This is going to be so much fun for you….I have sisters I could so live with, so much to look forward to, I see giggling and sharing in your future!
Sweet dog and birdie photos too. We have birds nesting in our Italian cypress, I need to find out what they are, poopy little critters!

  32. Elizabeth in WA says:

Ah lovely…being adaptable and changeable can bring nice rewards can’t it? I hope it all goes very smoothly for you and the rest!!

  33. FloridaScott says:

    Hi Sue & Crew,
Congratulations on your new home! You sound so excited. I am very happy for you.
Me on the other hand not as much. It came as a bit of a shock even though I would tell myself from time to time that RVSue will someday settle down. That things would change. I have read most comments on the previous post and no one has brought up the change for some readers.

For me it is kind of like the end of a Really Good book, a favorite TV show or movie. You wish it would keep on going just the way it was. I was looking forward to your summer adventures. I like following your camps on google, guessing where you might go next, getting your campground review, the photos of new places, the wildlife, bovine & sheep encounters, the visits to the new town your at, the people you meet and most of all the uncertainty. The whole Adventure of whats next. I am going to miss that part.

Is this all personal selfishness on my part. Yes it is. Only because I’ll miss what was.

Sue I have so enjoyed your blog. Thank You for sharing your adventures over all these years. I have learned so much and you have given me the inspiration to go and do it myself. After two years of preparation, We launch to full Time RVing in 27 days.

Our goal is to make it at least three years. Lord knows how you were able to make it seven. I am going to stay tuned to the sequel, the next chapter because I enjoy your writing style, wit, humor the Crew the photos and most of all You, RVSue!

Best Wishes On Your New Adventure! Be Happy & Have Fun!

    FloridaScott

    • rvsueandcrew says:

Scott. . . . I’m not dead yet! There will be more camps, more travel. Stay tuned. I look forward to hearing about your travels. Best wishes with your last minute preparations!

  34. Mary in CO says:

Wow! What an exciting change for you and the pups! I know that when we go out for about 3 weeks, I am happy to see home again. But in about a month, I am looking at maps for the next adventure. We will enjoy reading about you and the crew’s adventures in “staying put” and “on the road again”. Your writing style is entertaining no matter where you are.

    • Renee still in Idaho says:

My kind of RV’ing Mary in CO! I retire in 4 years and my husband in 8, so we will be taking as many trips as we can.

  35. Jolene/Iowa says:

As I read some of the comments it is interesting the perspectives I read. If I have learned anything this past year about life, it is this; expect the unexpected! Life is like that for each of us. Never in a million years would I have thought at this time last year what would transpire over the next 12 months.

What I intend to do in between Sue’s trips out again and while we wait for Sue to post new posts is go back to the very beginning again and start reading. It has been an amazing journey so far and I know I have forgotten some of the last 7 years.

Stunning pictures, detailed travel guides for the areas she visited and above all else, caring, witty, insightful, knowledge filled posts and comments. I don’t get to read as much these days as I wish but Sue has never failed to have a great blog post and I intend to go back and read them all again!

Who wants to travel along again and maybe we can post in the comments in the coming days and months of her future posts she will be making some of the things that we enjoy as we go back and read the blog again and “travel” the road again with Sue this spring and summer while she is busy getting her new home ready for when Nancy comes!

It will make for some fun commenting in the comments as we relive the adventures of Sue and her crew!

    • Barbara from Camano Island says:

I think that’s a great idea! Here I just got started and Sue is onto a new journey. But it will be fun reading her excitement of setting up house.

I am two weeks into my first trip in my van. Only a few days of wondering what in the heck I’m doing. Why was it I wanted to do this???? Then some beautiful forest comes along or some brief acquaintance is made and I remember. I am starting to settle into a gropve. Finding out I can’t drive too far and that some days I need to spend an extra day just getting caught up on my rest. We’ll see as time goes by how I feel.

  36. Don in Okla. says:

    Hi Sue and Crew
You might want to check before hooking into the house electrics with the trailer. I’m not an electrician by any stretch but the trailer may pull too much juice on that circuit of the house and possibly trip a breaker or overheat the wiring. Hopefully an electrician will jump in here and tell us what is what.
    Take care.

    • Renee still in Idaho says:

It may be affordable to add a 30amp plug-in. We did that when we moved in to our house. Our fifth wheel is 50amp, but we can safely plug in to our 30amp with an adaptor and even run the AC and fridge while we’re prepping for a trip.

    • rvsueandcrew says:

      Hi, Don,

So far it hasn’t tripped a breaker. I’m checking the outlet for heat. It seems to be okay. A heat wave is coming, and, if the BLT’s air conditioner is too much for it, we’ll camp inside the house and use its a/c. If there’s anything one learns from full-timing on solar in a tiny trailer, it’s how to work around situations. 🙂

      • Tesaje says:

As long as the house and trailer electrics are ok, you won’t have a problem. At worst, you might throw a breaker but that’s what they are for. I do a 15 amp house hookup all the time with my van. I can run the AC. What I can’t do is AC and water heater at the same time. And yes, you have plenty of experience to adapt as needed.

      • Don in Okla. says:

Sounds like a good plan. Just didn’t want an unsafe situation with the equipment.

  37. Kathy Kelly says:

I had a 30amp plug installed in my backyArd.

  38. Denise - Richmond VA says:

    Hi, Sue!

I can see why this house turned out to be the perfect home for you and Nancy and the pups. Nice porches to admire those spectacular AZ sunrises and sunsets, a fully fenced yard for the pups to be dog, trees (your own personal mesquite tree!), roses, plants, with room to add your own garden. Oh, what a bonus to have resident birds to boot! Now it is just a matter of time before you catch a picture of that roadrunner! 🙂

It will be fun for you and Nancy to set up housekeeping. It is great that she will bring most of the furniture – that will help a lot! Amazon, Lowes, and Target have a nice selection of outdoor goods. Some of my favorite places for outdoor furniture (maybe a swing or rockers for your front porch?), bird baths, feeders, and statuary are: Tuesday Morning has a nice rotating selection (Sedona and Scottsdale). Another treasure trove is Home Goods, which is affiliated with Marshalls and TJ Maxx (Tucson area). Even though I have what I need, I sometimes enjoy a quick browse. 🙂

I have been searching for a new covered 3-person swing the past few years. My swing is 16+ years old, it has the perfect squeak when Gracie pup and I sit and swing, watching the world go by… The seat frame has been rusting for years, it is must a matter of time before it gives and we will find ourselves plopped on the patio! I found it at Target way back when. It is a simple design – mesh fabric on the seat/back and canopy, with a nice, higher seat back. The swings I have seen are too fussy with cushions and/or fringe trim, or are just not comfortable. The search goes on! In the meantime….Gracie pup and I will keep on swinging…. 🙂

Sending you, Reggie, and Roger lots of love and hugs from me and Gracie pup! We will continue to enjoy tagging along whether you are camping, doing laundry, or whatever! 🙂 I saw my 1st baby blue-tailed lizard yesterday. So cute! 🙂

Bonus! Now you can get all of the Amazon deliveries that you desire! No more missed deliveries! Yippee! 🙂

We would paark our rig in front of our home … loading to head out or unloading after returning. It is noce to be able to run the fridge, the AC, etc for a bit but that can be a strain on a 15amp circuit. We had an electrician install a 30amp plug on an outside wall. EASY! Our rig also served as a guest room when we had lots of company visit at one time. Actually … we would head out to the rig and give our master bedroom to some of the guests. Your home instantly expands! Don’t know what the rules are at Quail Ridge for parking your rig alongside of your home … some places only allow you 72 hours … but it is a handy thing to have!

Wow! Congratulations! I am so happy for you, your sister, Marg, Roger and Reggie. Already your back yard is a place of adventure with a roadrunner coming by.
It’s hard to believe it’s been 7 years. I can’t wait to follow more of your adventures. The Pups are so adorable. Love them lots.

The gentle chirp of the thrasher seems peculiarly light for such a large bird! Interesting! What a lovely populated backyard!! Great idea to have bath & feeders!!

We used an old wooden ladder in our backyard for those accoutrements. It was lovely decorated with plants (cacti!) and knick-knacks. These days our lovely backyard is now overgrown with weeds & a very large dying tree 😢. We had an attack of a “bore beetle”, nothing we could do to save it.

Sue, it sounds like a dream! I can’t wait till you find your balance of home, sister & travel!! Enjoy the journey!!!

Captcha just did it again. Lost a good post. Will be back to retry as soon as the smoke clears!

JazzLover… Could the problem be on your end? I’m not hearing this happening with anyone else. Of course, that doesn’t mean it isn’t.

Blogorinos: Do your comments disappear when you try to post?

      • Geri in the FL panhandle! says:

It has happened a couple of times, but not recently.

      • weather says:

Mine have disappeared a few times, the problem is on my end though. I would start to write a comment, get distracted by a phone call or something going on outside…then come back and finish typing, do the math problem and hit post comment,

        – then instead of seeing my comment posting I’d see the captcha message. At that point there’s no way to retrieve the comment so I have to start all over again. There is obviously a time limit involved (guessing 30 minutes?), once we begin typing in the comment box, it’s necessary to complete and post it, not go meandering elsewhere.

        • rvsueandcrew says:

Thank you, weather! That makes a lot of sense. Good advice.

Another tactic if one wants to write a long post (Long posts are WELCOME here) is to divide the comment into two posts in order to keep within the time limit. If something in real life occurs requiring attention, simply write, “Be back later to finish” or something like that, hit “post comment” and leave. Then when you come back, reply to your own comment and write the rest.

BTW, … Yes, the rose you mentioned previously is at our house. We have several. Arizona people grow lots of roses! 🙂

      • JazzLover says:

It is possible it’s on my end. It only seems to happen at the same time of day. Guess I will have to make notes to myself.

        • JazzLover says:

Thinking back I believe weather may have the reason, taking too long, will shorten it up and see if that works. Thanks to you both.

  43. I listen to birds all morning sitting in the computer room. The window faces my big back yard with trees…some trees are blooming i.e. desert rose and palo verde. Years ago I upgraded all doors and windows to energy efficient double panes to keep house cool in summer. My house was built in an angle so sun streams through windows in winter only. In summer no sun comes in thru windows. So basically no windows in west and east side of house. SRP the electric company gave me free desert hardy trees to plant along my rather large drive way. The trees are mature now and provide excellent shade to keep the concrete driveway cooler. The palo verde trees do make a mess when the flowers drop…so I’ve been raking every evening.

It is exciting to paint and decorate a home. Since I have three little dogs sometimes five when my daughter drops her dogs off (like next week…daughter heading to NY with friends). I have stained concrete floors..easy clean up but do put down throw rugs. Slip covers on sofa and love seats and those throw things that cover sofa for easy clean up. Everyday I am thankful I have this home. I fought for a small home while my ex-husband wanted a large home. I knew too well what a large house entails in cleaning it…always needed help. When we parted ex-husband signed the house over to me & he disappeared into the wild blue yonder hahaha. Enjoy your home….I know it’s lovely already.

While I try to recover what I wanted to say about your future plans, let me thank you for those beautiful pictures from the last post of Quail Ridge RV Park. They reminded me of the park my husband and I lived in in Benson. The one of the gray mobile home with the four roses bushes was especially sweet. Seems like Quail Ridge was a good fit for your transmission stay. More to come.

    Good morning bloggarinos.
Sue, I am so thrilled for your new adventure in your new home with your sister. And your backyard looks and sounds wonderful.
I am sitting at a nice park near Savannah Georgia enjoying some beautiful weather. I did not particularly enjoy my drive thru historic Savannah due to too many people, too much traffic. I did take the Old Savannah Tours trolley yesterday for an hour and a half tour of historic Savannah. I really enjoyed that. Not in the crowd but able to enjoy the history of the area. I am going to The Bonaventure Cemetery today to ride my bike and explore.

    • Virginia620 AL says:

I also had a 30-amp service installed at my home as I can now park RV in my driveway. 4 months savings on storage fees will pay for that upgrade.
