The crew and I hike into the south end of Sawtooth Canyon this morning.
Hiking trails go off in all directions from Sawtooth Canyon Campground, south of Barstow. They vary from easy walks to difficult climbs. Bridget, Spike, and I choose an easy-to-moderate trail. Bridget is almost back to her strength and stamina before she tore the ligament in her left, back leg. She and Spike enjoy the adventure. At the sound of the camera case being unzipped, they know the hike pauses until I zip it back up again!
On the way back we rest in the shade of the boulders overlooking some of the campsites.
I share these photos especially for those of you who want to camp here someday. This weather in southern California in early November is wonderful![slideshow]

Looks like a great place! So glad Bridget is doing better! So is Radar, back to his bouncy happy self! Now “Grandpa Scotty” has a hurt foot! Sheeeeesh! You would love City of Rocks State Park! We are gonna camp there for a week after we finish up here! Wonderful boondocking areas tucked in amongst the rocks!

This is a very good dentist in Deming NM! He is wonderful! Dr. Gordon !!! I don’t mind going to a dentist who in not only very nice but very gentle!
You and the crew live such adventurous lives! Neat rock formations…lots of new smells for the crew. Looks peaceful AND quiet!
Ever worry about rattlesnakes?
At first when we came to the desert, I was leery of rattlesnakes. Now since we’ve spent so much time walking the desert without seeing any, I’m not nervous about them. I am very careful, nevertheless. Just because you’ve never encountered a rattler, doesn’t mean the next step you won’t!

Oh your lucky crew…………the joy in their faces as they explore with you each day. So glad that Bridget has healed and can keep up with mer man Spike. Loved the photos…..keep them coming Sue. Cozygirl is so right………………….it brightens each of our days to get our daily fix of Rv Sue and her crew !!
Bridget only plopped herself down once on our hike. A week or so ago she would’ve stopped the hike five or six times. Makes me happy… Boy, would I have felt guilty if she didn’t heal, after two vets told me she had to have surgery. She’s bright-eyed and enjoying our walks again!

I love to read your blog it always makes me smile and my day starts happily..Good your little doggie is doing better, I commend you for trying to rescue those dogs you mentioned on your blog, you have a big heart..People in these parts of the usa dump cats all the time, I rescue them to a shelter only for abandoned kitteh cats, they place them with loving parents and they are saved! I do believe there is a special place in hell for people who do that to helpless kittens, only I like to think those cruel and heartless people suffer here on earth, I really don’t believe in an afterlife of HELL, it is here, when a hurricane blows thru such densley populated areas such as the jersey shore, and nyc killing people and detroying their homes, livelihoods, the hell is here…I like your pictures of you and your children spike and bridget…I yearn for sunshine living in the pacific northwest with over 200 days of inclement weather it surely looks good to me, happy holidays very early!

One of the wonderful things about fulltiming that I didn’t anticipate is always living in perfect weather. Once you get the hang of it, you can avoid bad weather and live in an endless spring/summer. I love that!

Great slide show. Our weather here in Las Vegas is gorgeous right now too. I guess we have to suffer through the summer heat to have low 80’s in Nov. Although the news said a storm is coming through this weekend to really cool things off.

Like the new profile pics. Good job! I really liked the slide show that you did and the way you show us about the campgrounds. Gives me an idea which one I will choose when I go Rving. I have my folder of places I want to camp and it grows every week. I glean info from the blogs I read and your’s has a wealth of info, so thanks!
I’m happy to share with you the places where the crew and I camp. I try to be honest about them. This place is about the nearest to perfect you can get, in my opinion. The only downside is the lack of water. That doesn’t bother me because I always carry about 8 jugs (a gallon each) of water, in addition to the fresh water tank.
This place is definitely going on my “list” for next time we pass through Barstow!

One of the great things about Barstow is it’s on the way between Mono Lake and Joshua Tree National Park . . . kinda.

Overall I have to say no, my previous life was not this “full of adventure.” I’ve always lived on a low income, so that kept me from the travel I wanted to do or activities I wanted to participate in. Also I had a lot of family responsibilities. The years prior to fulltiming were restricted by the demands of my teaching career which kept me exhausted most of the time and by the frugality required to save for setting myself up to fulltime.
In short, my life now is payday!!! I waited so long that now every day is an adventure.
Well for what it’s worth, I’m so happy for you! You’re a good example of ‘take care of today and save for a rainy day’. You deserve to enjoy the fruits of you labor and we love going along for the ride!

We are having a great time ourselves…going to classes (no tests, no grades…just learning)…who would have dreamed we would do this in our “old” age? Still pondering the next next thing too…after our Seattle daughter is done with us helping her with the new baby in Spring…RV life still a big consideration. Tracy asked if you ever got scared? I just read your “The Aliens are coming, the Aliens are coming “. That was a typical reaction from anyone who ever saw a UFO. If you do ever run into an Alien. Stand straight and bow slightly never taking your eyes off of them. Then say, ” It is the custom and manner of my people that permission be asked before entering my space “. This is letting them know that you have free will and you are asserting your souvernty. The good Aliens will abide by your decision to let them stay or go. The bad ones will take you aboard the flying saucer and subject you to medical testing and then make you forget the experience or give you screen memories usually. Desert skies are so beautiful that more UFO’s are seen than anywhere else I think. I have had 4 experiences of seeing them and I treasure each occurance.

I admit when I saw those lights I was intrigued and a part of me wanted the experience to turn out to be something extraordinary. However, it makes a funnier story to play up the fear factor!
When I look up at the gazillions of stars in the desert night sky, it seems preposterous to assume we are the only forms of life with “higher intelligence.” Your comments are always thought-provoking.

The clouds moved in overnight and it’s cooler today (Thursday) which has given me some ambition to tidy and clean.
I thought I would spend more time cleaning after I retired but only seem to do so thoroughly when stormy weather moves in (lol).
What a beautiful camp site. Here I live in the desert–well, Sun City, but I never get out of my little area and really see what lies beyond. Thanks for bringing all the beauty of the desert to your faithful blog readers. You truly inspire me, and I am sure that goes for others too. Love those doggie pictures–keep them coming, never get tired of looking at those two little beauties.
I so enjoy your blog…and envy your lifestyle. I’m a retired man with 2 old doggies myself. I really am at the point of throwing it all to the wind and taking the full-time rv boondocking plunge. I have a couple of questions for you…if you have the time: How did you go about getting rid of your “stuff”? I have a home and a bunch of furniture to dispose of. Am wondering if I should have an estate sale or what. I would choose a small trailer myself….I’ve had experience towing a 32′ one when I was married and the kids were young. Wondering whether to buy it here (Minnesota)…or perhaps in Arizona. At any rate…thanks for the grand posts and lovely pictures. Best of wishes to you and your pups.
